Say it ain't so? Josh Brown will be relentlessly booed every time the Rams play theSeahawks, in Seattle, and rightfully so. It was bad enough we traded a washed up DJack to the Niners, but watching Brown go to a division rival stings. The only positives are that the contract is ridiculously huge for a kicker (glad the Hawks want to spend there money elsewhere, long-term deal for Trufant?), and the Rams aren't going to be competing in the division for awhile. I'm really hoping the Hawks take a serious run at free agents K RobBironas and TE Alge Crumpler, but may not have the money. I guess it's karma for all thegame winning kicks he made against them.
So long Josh! The fans have someone to boo as much as A-Rod now.
I live in Lamb country--It will take more than a kicker to help this team!! Thanks for the kicker--Now if you can part the Mississippi and make man fly with chicken feathers, the Rams will be in the hunt!!!
I haven't heard of this signing yet.
Reality says kickers matter, so sometime a team better pay up. Not many make penthouse money, yet when a team has one, they better pay or lose him to a division rival.
What team wouldn't want one or two more wins a year, courtesy of the kicker.
more...Holy ####, a $14 million dollar kicker contract for 5 years.
Why would you Seattle fools boo the guy for taking that kind of contract. Brown was the Ram killer a year ago. Thank god you had him as long as you did.
The general rule of thumb, in these circumstances, is you boo a guy that leaves either via free agency or demands a trade. It's not like Brown is going to play the length of that insane contract anyway.
We'll likely draft somebody at kicker.
I'll admit I thought the Rams were the sure second place team last year, but Marc Bulger had a tough year and so did Steven Jackson. Their defense improved last year. I think they'll bounce back this year, as the NFC West is going to be wide open this next season. The Seahawks are losing a ton of players in free agency.
Let's review the last major free agent kicker defection shall we?
Adam Vinatieri to the Colts: IND's comeback win over NE in the AFC title game had little (if anything) to do with AV changing unis and everything to do with the fact that Belichick called a terrible game (not running to preserve a winded D for one) in the second half. Fast-forward to 2007, Vinatieri most famously shanked a 24-yarder that Mike Vanderjagt couldn't have been run out of town fast enough for while the Pats were two minutes away from the perfect season. Needless to say, it didn't exactly put the Colts over the hump (SB or not), and Vinatieri isn't the same kicker. Not a good omen for JB here.
And PF, why was trading a washed-up WR to a division rival bad? If anything it added to the steaming vat of suck that was the 49ers, who recently mistook Justin Smith for Patrick Kerney and instead are getting Grant Wistrom. Every team in the division can have all our rejects, we'll take their good players (see J-Pete).
JB and Kevin Bentley hardly equal a ton of players.
Losing our lineback depth will hurt, if Tatupu or Peterson go down. The team is losing depth, which some can be replaced in the draft, but it can still hurt the team's chances.
The Niners are really just signing anybody these days. Isaac Bruce will have no impact there, just like DJack. I agree with your comment about Smith.
I still think the Hawks are the class of the division, but have got to get some value picks in this year's draft. Tight end and running back are huge needs, and now we have to add kicker to the mix. I really wish they would trade up for U of O's Jonathan Stewart, but doubt that will happen.
PF is from the Northwest. I'm a huge fan of the Seahawks, Mariners, and Trail Blazers! If you don't root for your teams, even when they're losing or re-building, you are not a true fan.
