Does anyone out there in Bear country think there will be any kind of legitimate quarterback controversy this year? By legitimate I mean within the organization and not media created. Da Bears have Brian Griese looming; Kyle Orton still waiting to prove himself again (ten wins his rookie season is nothing to sneeze at); national champion and fellow Florida Gator Chris Leak wanting to prove that size doesn't matter; and Frankfurt Galaxy product J.T. O'Sullivan in the NFL Europa World Bowl making some serious noise.
Who makes the cut, and secondly, where do all the other quarterbacks go? I personally think that Orton is a gem that just needs to be polished.
The Bears have coronated Rex as the #1 and have too much cash invested in Griese at #2. Orton is probably the best on the roster, but won't sniff another start unless Grossman goes 0-5 and Brian gets hurt.
When Orton was starting all those games, Bears fans still were ####ing about his numbers. Fact is, the O-Line blew and the receivers weren't much better. What would happen if Orton (in year 3) got the chance to play with 2 TEs, 3 quality recievers, and an O-Line that can block past 2 mississippi?
No QB controversy.....just the Bears trying to figure out if Grossman is closer to being Favre or Cade McNown's older brother.
I agree, Orton is the best quarterback on the bears, Griese sucks, always has, always will and Grossman, wow, talk about inconsistant. But have to agree with smoke, Rex will be the starter and Griese the backup.
ObliQ ......... They've got the same thing as such happening in Tampa Bay. Only in this case they're carping on about whether or not Jake Plummer will turn for the required OTA's and then the official start of the Bucs' training camp in July. As Plummer has yet to file his retirement papers with the League. They're still of the belief that he's there property. Legitimately they do have a point as he's yet to file the necessary papers. Yet in doing so he'll have to give back over $4.5m to the Broncos. So make of that what you will .
Orton is the man that in long run will be best for the Bears. He needs maybe another year of development but the sad part is the bears just don't know how to develop a QB. BG is a good backup but I would not put my team on the line with him because he makes some real bad decisions but he would be good as a QB coach. Leak would be my kick returner but the problem with that in bar country they have an exceptional one already. Leak reminds me of Brian Mitchell, good college QB but better suited as a kick returner in the pros. JT has a lot of upside and is a kid I would keep around. The Doug Peterson of the Bears. Can win a solid backup and is happy to be there.
