‘Grand Slam Sunday’ has emphatically established one simple
fact – the ‘Big 4’ should now be renamed because certain memberships have been
revoked. Lets now call it what it really is…the ‘Big 2’ – Arsenal and Liverpool
it’s time to reapply.
Back on December 12th 2007 I did the first part
of the A-Z of ‘GSS’ – here is part II.
Arsene Wenger you’ve been penny wise & pound foolish and
now its cost you the title. I told you to buy in the January sales. You may get
deals in the summer but you’ll have won nowt when it counts. What a time to
have your worst run in over a decade?
Balls & bottle because Avram Grant finally demonstrated
that he may have both when it matters.
Cristiano Ronaldo is putting together the finest season I
can remember. Thirty-four goals is ridiculous and fifty cannot be ruled out.
When one speaks of FIFA World Player of the Year, there can be only one serious
candidate.
Didier Drogba maybe playing his last season in English
football after sulking through most of the campaign but the man is still one of
the deadliest strikers in the world when it comes to showing up in the ‘big’
games. Are you listening Adebayor!
Emmanuel Eboue you’re amazingly talent with a golden future
but when are you going to grow up. Pouting, jawing and acting like a spoilt
brat isn’t going to win you matches.
Frank Lamaprd you’re so overrated.
Gerrard, Steven you’re so overrated.
Home field advantage is massive.
Idiotic behavior is unacceptable at the highest level
especially in matches that decide titles. What Javier Mascherano was playing at
is anyone’s guess but if I was to offer an explanation ‘energy’ drinks must
surely be the culprit because his mouth was working way faster than his brain.
Jamie Carragher has been a magnificent servant to Liverpool
but you’ll need a mechanical digger to find him now. Wayne Rooney practically
corkscrewed him down to China during one second half mazy.
Kalou, Salomon what a swing and a miss. Wow…what a sitter.
What was missing…a silver platter, napkins, and waiters?
Liverpool Football club has now played almost 12 hours of
Premiership football without scoring against Manchester United. When you wonder
why it’s been eighteen years since you’ve had a sniff of domestic league
glory…wonder no more!
Michael Carrick you’ll be truly appreciated by the OT
faithful one day. I thought you were superb.
Nani, nice, nimble and naughty celebration after a
sensational finish. I thought SAF had banned you from impersonating a gymnast.
Old Trafford has been a haven for the ‘prawn’ sandwich
brigade for most of the campaign – it was positively exhilarating to hear it
get back to ‘meat-and-potatoes’ mode on Sunday.
Pepe Reina you were United’s best player…Zoinks!
Questions that were answered: Chelsea just simply refuse to
lose at fortress Stamford Bridge- that’s now 78 matches without defeat in
domestic competition. United have had Liverpool’s number since 1993 – that’s a
lifetime in football.
Rooney, Wayne you should’ve scored a couple but your
all-round performance was a reminder that you are England’s greatest hope and
most outstanding natural talent.
Steve Bennett you’re either a brave man or one big spoiler.
I thought the first yellow card to Mascherano was well deserved for his late
challenge on Paul Scholes - you’ve got to keep a lid on these pressure cookers
before they explode. It then looked like the Argentine started badgering you,
leading to the second yellow card as he sprinted 20-30 yards to get in your
face. I guess we’ll never know what he said but I sure hope it was worth the
red.
Ten…“Manchester United have all but wrapped up Premiership
title number ten. Who wants to argue that?” If any of you do have a beef with
that statement, come on down the FSC studios and I’ll buy you a snack from our
deluxe vending machine and explain why you’re out to lunch.
Understated brilliance is the hallmark of Ricardo Carvalho.
Forget the loss of John Terry and Petr Cech. When this man is out, the Blues
are half a team.
Vidic, Nemanja reminds me of Jaap Stam with his beastly
presence in the heart of the United back four. Ronaldo make take the plaudits
but it’s the Serbian that provides the defensive steel making
Wesley Brown, so you think you deserve more money from the
Old Trafford printing press? Putting one past the Scousers will certainly help
loosen those purse strings...maybe!
X-cuses from the Professor and the Rotator are beginning to
ring hollow because the Frenchman and the Spaniard are both brilliant coaches.
The two men will meet three times over the next few weeks. Only one will have
the opportunity to move on and possibly save their seasons. Who will it be…stay
tuned?
Yesterday reminded me that the gap between the ‘haves and
have nots’ is growing. We must find a way to redress the balance or the
exclusive club that United and Chelsea have created will never accept new
membership.
Zzzzzz’s, not a chance this time around. ‘GSS’ before
Christmas was a snoozer while this was the real deal.
Until then, GTBI is retired and I’ll meet you at the far
post.
your comments were ridiculous in terms of arsenal.
it shows you are a arsenal fan who is also blinded by the fact that arsenal have very little achievements in recent years. nothing major. The only credit i give them is they stepped up even though they were virtually written off when henry left. If they were the most consistant team today they would be sitting on top in the league, however they are 3rd?
Surely the season is not over there are many twists and turns but if arsenal dont produce and trophies this season surely it will damage AW credability and even lingure thoughts into the minds of the football elite (those who understand the game and all its aspects) that is he capable of anything?
my advice let loose with your pockets AW and find yourself a striker.
Man united lets hope we win the league and champions league to cap off a fine year.
Mr Webster i really wish you would read my comment and respond to me. Im actually the trini guy that sent an email in to the show a while back. Twas about drugs in sport....
I need to ask you though how was frank lampard overrated? I looked at the replay of the match and he was tracking every single run that cesc made. Whenever he and ballack start together, they have to share the time that they spend going forward. Lampard just had some more responsibility for keeping an eye on cesc and he did a fine job. Look at the replay if you dont believe me.
And, in the second half, when ballack came off, lamps got forward more and was right there in the mix when Drogba got the equaliser. H in fact got the touch that took it into drogba's path.
Sure he didnt score but one must understand that against the likes of fabregas, a different set of rules applies. And he was often either there with fabregas or back at left back with ashley cole.
Im a huge lamps fan so i obviously have a bias but sometimes i think the criticism of lamps is too harsh. Plus he played drogba in twice and joe cole in the first half. He didnt have a blinder but certainly should not be mentioned in the same light as stevie g who was completely missing from that game.
I wish to hear what you have to say in response. Later
Nick, go back to the vending machine and and keep eating junkfood, it seems to be imparing your judgment. For you to say that Arsenal are not a Top Club is rediculus. I can only conclude that you have a real dislike for the club. They have just released a statment on their financial condition which is stellar. They have led the majority of the season and have proved to be far more consistant that anyone would of guessed, especialy you. The season is not over and there is everything to play for.
You are right, CR and ManU have proved once again that they are world class, but just stop and consider what Arsenal have been through and what AW has made of the side.
I can only hope that there will be some silverware in the cabnet for Arsenal, but even if we go without another season, it is unreasonalble to say that a team like Arsenal, who will finish no worse then 3rd are not still a Top club. This ony makes you look bias and diminishes your credibility.
If you've watched the video where he walks up to Steve Bennett you know all he said was "what's happening". If Mascherano gets a 3 match ban I'll be furious, Lampard gets off with stamping on a player, but since that is not what the card was for he's fine. Fact is Masch gets made an example of for Chelsea's and Arenal's sins. Who better, if they punished Manchester United, huge uproar, Sir Alex called it, he hates them, if Arsenal or Chelsea get punished, same thing, but since we're out of the title race but are still a big club the message is made. Horrible decision, made by the PFA, to be fair Masch didn't do himself any favors but a sending off didn't fit the crime. If Steve Bennett was a good ref he would have warned him that the next time he comes near him he'd be off.
there is no one who shares my point of view more than NICK WEBSTER.
Arsenal. I truelly believe Wenger dislikes everything British except the pound. He would make a third of his salary in France.
Arsenal add ZERO to British national team.
He does come in handy to the French national team.
Macherano JUst got a new contract. this is how he acts? He surelly wanted some time off. Yeah; read his lips between the two cards "F... off".
Carrick usually sucks, on Sunday i noticed he controlled the game.
Drogba last year got robbed of the runner up FIFA player only behind Cristiano.
Unfortunatlly they are both from small countries with no clout.
Ricardo Carvalho and Vidic are the two best defenders in the world.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the all time 3 best football players. If not the best.
Left foot, right foot, penalty kicks, free kicks, speed, heading, determination, OMG " the moves " and most of all pure entertainment.
i'll be the first arsenal fan to say Arsene Wenger is the most over-rated manager possibly in football history. please nick, could you outline mr wenger"s achievements within the last five years for all arsenal fans so the facts can speak for themselves. I don't understand why he didnt bring in senderos ( to deal with long balls) when they were up one and twenty mins to go as gallas is simply terrible in the air. play toure in front of the back four so as to contain the drogba threat ?
dear Nick, Arsenal are like the boxer in a heavy weight title fight who continues to jab and show off his fancy foot work instead of throwing the knock-out punch to a fighter who can bearly stand, all the while giving the opponent a chance to recuperate. Fire arsene wenger !
