Well, let's continue my evaluation of the teams in this year big game with a look at the men of the backfield. You know what's going on! It's....
NeoAC's Ultra In-Depth Look at the Super Bowl Combatants!
SCORE AFTER ROUND 1: IND 3, CHI 2.5
Round 2:Running Back/Full Back
Starters (Old) (3pts)
Dominic Rhodes vs. Thomas Jones
After being labeled a bust during stints in Arizona and Tampa Bay, Jones has finally started showing us what he could have been playing like for those teams, and the Bears couldn't be happier. Jones rackes up his second consecutive 1000 season for Chicago and has been an intimidating presence. Rhodes was not as impressive for the Colts. After stepping into the big shoes of Edgerrin James, he was not as effective, averaging only 3.4 yards per carry. For a guy who rushed for 1000 yards and 4.7 yards per carry in his rookie season, this was not a welcome sign. Jones will take this one for the Bears.
ADVANTAGE: JONES (CHI 5.5, IND 3)
Starters (Young) (3pts)
Joseph Addai vs. Cedric Benson
Neither of these two may have started a game this year, but they are both going to be playing a big role in this one. Addai was very impressive in his rookie season, as he did rack up 1000 yards. Of course so did Rhodes in his first year, and look at him now, losing a head to head with Thomas Jones. Still, Addai was a big threat this season, and he can catch the ball as well as run it, shown by his 3 receiving TDs. Benson was given an expanded role in the offense this year, and he has shown what he can do with it, hitting the end zone six times. The Texas product still has not been impressive as the boy from LSU, however, so I'm afraid Indi will take this one.
ADVANTAGE: ADDAI (IND 6, CHI 5.5)
Third String (1pt)
De De Dorsey vs. Adrian Peterson
Are you serious, De De Dorsey? Who the heck is that? Anyway, apparently the Colts third stringer is another rookie, coming out of Lindenwood University, a NAIA liberal arts school in St. Charles, MO, who only other notable graduate is Miss USA 2004. Oh, and although he appeared in thirteen games this year, he did not touch the ball once. Nice. This one goes to the veteran Peterson, who actually has touched the ball this season, and score twice doing so.
ADVANTAGE: PETERSON (CHI 6.5, IND 6)
Fullback (1pt)
James Mungro vs. Jason McKie
I know I am going to get some complaints for not listing Ben Utecht here, but folks, he is a tight end. Therefore, he will be listed with the other tight ends. So instead, I listed the only played on the Colts roster classified as a FB but who is not a TE, James Mungro, who has played in zero games this season. Well, it looks like McKie is going to take this one by default, which is good, because he really hasn't done much either.
ADVANTAGE: MCKIE (CHI 7.5, IND 6)
So at the end of the first quarter of my reviews, Chicago has stolen the lead from Indianapolis. Will the Colts be able to regroup when I lok at the recievers and tight end tomorrow? Come right back here to find out. So as always leave your comments, and Thanks and Cheers for reading!
Unlike I said before, I'm now 19, but I still live in Nova Scotia, Canada, so the deck is still stacked against me there, although at least now I can finally drink legally. I still follow hockey, baseball, basketball, football, soccer, NCAA football and NCAA basketball very closely and I have now expanded into Mongolian beach volleyball, so at least I can give a unbiased perspective on those things. Maybe.
I am still attending Dalhousie University, which is part of the reason I haven't posted much.
