Shaun Alexander Updates
May 29, 2008 | 11:14AM | report this

Well I am confused. Why is it Shaun Alexander is still unemployed in the NFL?

New Orleans, Cincinnati, and Denver have obviously declined the option of adding him to their rosters.

Is there something more to the story that we just don't know? Some injury that scares the NFL? I am starting to hear rumors that Shaun may just hang up his cleets and retire, that would be quite unfair to a man who is only two years removed from an MVP season.

As a life long Seahawk fan I want what is best for our team though I do have a couple of questions to all my brothers and sisters in Seahawk Pride.

1. With the supply of HB's we have (Jones, Morris, Duckett) could resigning Shaun to a minimum contract (nothing like he had) hurt us in the long run?

2. How do you think Jones will react to the West Coast Offense?

3. Morris is a proven 3rd down back, if given the chance could he shine?

Lets talk about the obvious. Shaun declined once he cashed that check, now a couple of broken bones also hinder that. Could he with the money and lack of interest in doubt come back with a force and rush for 1,500 yards and 20 TD's to silence his critics?

I think (I think) it wouldn't be a bad decision to get him back on the roster if the money is right...what do you think..I am confused.

Let's face it. Just like everyone else who leaves or is traded from Seattle to somewhere else, he will probably shine once he gets on there.

The thinking around the league may well be that after his injuries he may well not well have what it takes to be an elite back in the league.

I just hope for Seattle's sake that doesn't happen to be true.'cause if he does come back better than ever it'll definately be a boon to them.

It's early and cuts will come by June 1.
That's when teams will have a better idea of their Cap Limits.

As a long time Seahawk fan, Shaun is gone and he's well done...

I like the man, but the fire went out a couple of years ago. I think the rest of the league can see that too. He'll probably turn up somewhere on a low salary with lots of incentives, but I seriously think he is done...

It is a bummer to see Shaun leave the Seahawks.
Then I think back to his ealier seasons and how he danced along the line looking for the hole, and it seemed like with his injuries, he just went back to that again in the last 2 seasons. I think before the 2005 season, the coaches were really on him to just hit the hole and go!
Alot of people also forget that during the 2005 Superbowl Season for the Hawks, Ray Rhodes was in charge of our supercharged defense. We lost the Superbowl, lost Ray, lost our effective offensive line, and Shawn lost his confindence with the injuries.
Holmgren wants it all this season, and I hope his play calling gets more aggressive. Instead of managing the clock for a last minute field goal, let the players play and show their talent!

The man asked 3 questions, lets take a shot at answering them.

1. With the supply of HB's we have (Jones, Morris, Duckett) could resigning Shaun to a minimum contract (nothing like he had) hurt us in the long run?
Answer
First, I dont think SHaun will accept a low salary. He's got enough money in the bank to ride it out and hope someone gets injured in camp or the preseason.

Second, The Hawks are not likely to sign him a t a lower salary now that he has been passed over by three other teams.

Hurt us NO, but I doubt that scenario will play out.

2. How do you think Jones will react to the West Coast Offense?
Answer
I (for all my opinion has to do with reality) think that JJ will do fine in the WC offense. He is a smart and dedicated player that is happy to be getting another chance.

3. Morris is a proven 3rd down back, if given the chance could he shine?
Answer
Like a Diamond, but agaion this is just my opinion. But why not. He now has more help on the O-line. Really more of a question of how the line will gell, get along and execute like a group of friends with the same goals. Thats what made the 05 Hawks so good.

I dont think youre confused, youre just hopefull. And I bet you spent some money on Alexander Paraphenia (sic)

Running Backs are not what they use to be. Teams build around Quarter Backs and spend less on a running back. You get about 4-5 years out of a running back if your lucky these days. Guys are so strong and fast these days that those running backs get crushed. Sorry Shaun is gone but from a business standpoint it is good timing. Without making too many people angry he was kinda taking the fetal position over contact for an extra couple of yards last year. I want the guy that lowers his shoulder and plows for a couple of extra. Lets face it last year 3rd and 1 to go or 4th down we had problems. We will be ok but we need to start looking to the future soon as our quarter back dosen't have many years left either.

Sleepless - I dont see who has left seattle and become so good?, recent transactions show Jeremy Stevens, D-Jack, Trent Dilfer, Boulware, going back a few years or more, Galloway,Herndon, Mirer (?), Kitna, Chad Brown, Wistrom, Robinson, Shawn Springs (can go either way), etc,,,due to age or lack of ability these have all been recent releases that have amounted to nothing overall, sure they have some stats accumulated, but as a league definer in the respective position,,,we dont need them. Hamlin, Lucas, Hutchinson, soon to be Josh Brown, the last two being absolute errors in Seattles history. I will concede letting those two go has been and will be (brown) a massive blow to the organization and success overall. I was just feeling or getting over the loss of Hutch when we let JB go this year. I felt JB was the best overall kicker in the league. Knowing those two, Seattle's player management needs to open their eyes.

ABOUT ME

NationTraveler78
I am a native of the Pacific Northwest. My Grandfather was a very small minority owner of the Seahawks and even owned the land the original Kingdome was built on, he sold his portion to the Nordstrom family in 1979. With that being said I was born a fan and was less than a two weeks old when I went to my first Hawks game on Dec. 3rd 1978 when the Hawks played the Browns. As a kid my family moved to Arizona where things changed in sports, becoming a Phoenix sports fan is bittersweet, just like being a Seattle fan. Combined the two cities have two championships
. 1979 Sonics and 2001 Diamondbacks.
I am now living in SoCal with my wife and two children, with one little future Seahawk on the way.
Time stamping is done in Pacific Time.
