I have heard so many negative things about Shaun Alexander recently and though I believe the Seahawks made the right decision moving forward without him it is still disheartening to see someone who gave so much to the people of Seattle leave that great city.
I do hope that when Shaun's career is finished that he comes home and signs that 1 day contract and retires a Seahawk as he heads toward his rightful place in Canton, Ohio.
Before any of you Shaun Alexander "haters" come forward and say he does not deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame, know your facts:
1. He has 9,429 yards on the ground, that is more than the Great Earl Campbell who last time I check was in the Hall of Fame.
2. He has scored 100 Touchdowns on the ground, that is more than.....
Earl Campbell (74), Joe Perry (71), O.J. Simpson (61), Franco Harris (91), Tony Dorsett (77), Eric Dickerson (90), and Barry Sanders (99). All of these GREAT BACKS are in the Hall of Fame
Shaun also scored more than, Thurman Thomas, Curtis Martin, and Jerome Bettis, these folks will wind up in the HOF.
3. Even with his last two injury prone seasons, he still averages over his career 4.3 yards a carry, that is higher than....
Emmit Smith, Curtis Martin, Marcus Allen, ect....
4. Shaun is #8 on the All Time Rushing Touchdown Leaders and #13 for ALL TIME!
He is ahead of such greats as Barry Sanders and Time Brown. If he gets 13 more TD's in his career he will tie Walter Payton, add on more and he passes Jim Brown, 4 more on top of that and he goes by Cris Carter.
Good luck Shaun and we all wish you the best of luck with your new team whoever they may be (just stay away from St. Louis, we would hate to have to embarress you)
It would be nice to see Shaun catch on with somebody and have another couple of productive years before he hangs it up. It would go a long way toward what you're professing here, that he is a HOF player. I'm afraid unless he has one of two good years in the future, everyone's vision of Shaun will center on those two poor seasons in Seattle.
Good post, I dont think Shaun has showed much drive in the last two seasons, but over all he is one of the best playing the game today and deserves a spot in Canton regardless of what happens next for him.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I love Shaun always have always will. I never once booed him or said they shouldn't play him. I do agree with the Hawks letting him go but it was time, and that 4.5 mil comin off the salary cap will be huge (maybe some room to add Jeremy Shocky?). I completley agree that Shaun should be a hall of famer. Another thing that really angers me is people thinking Matt Hasselbeck isn't a good Qb, he is one of the top 5 pre snap quarterbacks, he's got great accuracy, and he's been to the pro bowl multiple times now, his numbers are fantastic. Anyways I hope the best for Shaun and I hope he gets to keep playin somewhere.
I am a native of the Pacific Northwest. My Grandfather was a very small minority owner of the Seahawks and even owned the land the original Kingdome was built on, he sold his portion to the Nordstrom family in 1979.
With that being said I was born a fan and was less than a two weeks old when I went to my first Hawks game on Dec. 3rd 1978 when the Hawks played the Browns.
As a kid my family moved to Arizona where things changed in sports, becoming a Phoenix sports fan is bittersweet, just like being a Seattle fan. Combined the two cities have two championships . 1979 Sonics and 2001 Diamondbacks.
I am now living in SoCal with my wife and two children, with one little future Seahawk on the way.
