A Bunch of Gobbledy Gook

Not many stories that deserve a full post, so here is some more Gobbledy ####

  1. I have all the respect in the world for Don Shula, but him talking about an asterisk to be hung on the Pats if they go 16-0, all I have to say is consider where he is coming from.  He is the coach of the only undefeated team in NFL history, so you think he wants to keep that record going.  Would he be saying this if the Pats didn't have an actual shot of going undefeated?
  2. indianapolis and New England will meet in the AFC Championship game and the coutcome will be similar to sundays game.
  3. Joe Torre will look awkward in Dodger blue.  He will struggle in LA because he is not the manager people think he is.  Anyone can win in New York with a $200 million payroll.
  4. Baseball managers are paid significantly less than other coaches in pro sports simply because they don't do as much as other coaches.  Football coaches make 4-times as much as managers because they do 4-times the work.
  5. With Curt Schilling resigned, the Red Sox are an instant playoff contender.
  6. Andy Pettite is not evry smart for decling $16 million from the Yankees.  he won't get that kind of money anywhere else.
  7. Dennis Dixon of the Oregon Ducks will win the Heisman trophy with Tim Tebow finishing second and Mike Hart third.
  8. Darren McFadden is the best pro-prospect in upcoming draft.
  9. Les Miles' thick-headed play calling will cost him a shot at the National Championship.
  10. Notre Dame may have the best recruiting class on paper, but they will struggle over the next few years.
  11. Chris Peterson of Boise State will be the next football coach at UCLA.
  12. Jonathan Papelbon can not dance.

With not a real significant story in college football this weekend, time for some Gobbledy ####:

  1. Notre Dame will find their quarterback of the future, next year when Dayne Crist comes to South Bend.  This year for ND is a wash.  I wonder is Ty Willingham is being blamed for this.
  2. LSU is the best team in college football this year, to bad the entire country can't see them play.  Wake up LSU, play some decent non-conference opponents.
  3. If Ohio State makes it to the National Championship game in New Orleans, they will absolutely be flattened by an SEC team or a team from the PAC-10
  4. South Florida will lose to Louisville and Cincinnati. They will win the Big East, but lose their bowl game because of inexperience.
  5. Notre Dame will win one more this year, against Duke.
  6. USC should start J.D. Booty if he is healthy. This season is over for USC unless they embarass every team they play for the rest of the year.  They need double digit beatdowns of every team to be considered for the National Championship game.
  7. Notre Dame needs to join a conference, the Big Ten is looking, could it be a match made in heaven?
  8. I think that predicting the draft right now is absolutely rediculous.  On Monday Night Football, they named the best quarterback prospects.  Only start discussing the draft when team have been eliminated from playoff contention.  Then we know what teams are lookin for.
  9. With parity, college football is as great as ever.

All of these thoguhts came into my head over the past week and each thought warrented a post of their own, but there is a problem, no one long enough for a post.  So I decided to mash them all together into one major post.

  1. I am looking forward to this weekend in college football.  The Red River Shootout, Florida vs LSU, and Notre Dame playing against an underachieveing UCLA team.  Hoping for an excellent weekend with a ton of good games.
  2. With hockey beginning this weekend I have a few thoughts on what the  NHL could do to once again become relevent.  Every team should have a dance team or a cheerleading squad filled with scantily clad women.  That is one way to get that demographic of males aged 18-35 that everyone is looking to get after.
  3. Another thing is to not expand, but relocate to of the teams that are struggleing in getting people into their building like Carolina and Phoenix, to markets that might care about hockey, because they know what ice is. A place like North Dakota and Hartford, Connecticut where they had a team that was rudely taken away from them in favour of new money. The NHL needs to take marketing lessons
  4. Soccer gets no respect in this country mainly because of clips like this. Use this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h213GJo76sQ.  This is why I do not like soccer.
  5. The NFL is going as strong as ever, and most of it is becasue Roger Goddell has tried to get rid of all the felons and dog fighters in the league and i applaud him for taking actions to protect his players.  Unlike another commissioner in the NHL is reluctant to punish anyone who is a key figure in the league like Pronger in the Cup final last year, versus the Downie incident in the pre-season.  The NHL is the only one that has different penalties for different level of stars and different penalties at different times of the year.  Keep it universal then we won't have anyone second guessing your decisions commissioner.

Just a couple of thoughts
