The New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 in a whopper of a ball game. Carlos Delgado supplied the fire power and Oliver Perez sparkled for 7.2 innings.
Carlos Delgado hit a 2-run double in the 8th inning of a 1-1 ballgame scoring Robinson Cancel and David Wright.
After scoring on the Delgado hit, Wright poped up form his slide and did some fist pump thing. I am sure the Phillies announcers didn't like that very much!
Oliver Perez has legally changed his last name to clutch. A season high 12 strike outs for Mr. Clutch in his 7.2 innings. Oliver walked only 1 and that was an intentional pass to Pat the bat Burell.
The Phillies scored their one and only run in the 7th when Jayson Werth took Oliver Perez to deep center.
In the top of the 8th, Eric Bruntlet, filling in for Jimmy Rollins, doubled off the wall in LF. The Phillies eventually loaded the bases for Jayson Werth after Perez hit Ryan Howard. Manuel pulled Oliver and Heilman was bought in and got Werth to fly out ot deep CF.
Billy Wagner's hitless innings streak was snapped after allowing a hit in the 9th but was able to shut the door.
