The Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-3 behind John Maine and Jose Reyes. After Maine was done the bullpen was able to get 6 outs. Now if they could get 6 outs why couldn't they get 3 outs yesterday? Oh yea we had Billy Wagner avaliable for the game.

  • Jose Reyes hit a clutch 3-run home run in the bottom of the 6th. Jose gave the Mets a 6-3 lead and John Maine and the pen would not give that one up.
  • John Maine went 7 innings for only the 2nd time this year. His control was better, only walking 2 batters and striking out 5. John got the win for the Mets improving his record to 9-7.
  • In the first inning, Brett Myers walked 4 straight batters allowing a runner to score.
  • The Mets had the bases loaded seamingly all night but didn't get the big hit with the bases loaded.
  • Scott Schoeneweis came on in the 8th and got 2 outs and than Joe Smith came in and got the final out in the 8th.
  • Billy Wagner came on to close the game and was perfect. The radar gun regestered 97 at one point.

"Of corse you feel it, but I was able to stick with it. If I can compete, I'll be out there"-Billy Wagner on his injury

"I was excited there, I have ot enjoy it because thats big there"-Jose Reyes on his 3-run home run in the 6th

"I just needed a good game, I wasn't worried about walking guys."- John Maine on his pitching performance

"He attacked the strike zone better, that's huge for him."- Jerry Manuel on John Maine

The Mets lost a heartbreaker last night after leading 5-2 entering the 9th inning. Mets closer Billy Wager was unavaliable to pitch last night due to shoulder tightness. If Billy was avaliable to pitch, maybe I would be writting about a Mets win and not a loss.

  • Johan Santana pitched 8 innings of 2 runs. Johan allowed 8 hits, did not walk anyone and struck out 4.
  • Endy Chavez was was thrown out twice at the plate. The first was after Chavez could have had a tripple easily and stopped at second. Chavez later tried ot score from second and was thrown out. He was thorwn out once again by a mile later in the game.
  • Carlos Delgado hit a 2-run bomb off Joe Blanton to give the Mets a 3-1 lead.
  • Ramon Castro supplied another 2-run home run also off Joe Blanton to give the Mets a 5-1 lead.
  • Since closer Billy Wagner was unavaliable, Jerry Manuel brought in Duaner Sanchez to pin the Phils down in the 9th. Well, Duaner allowed 3 hits to load the bases and Joe Smith was put in. Joe allowed a run to score and than Pedro Feliciano surrendered the big 2-run double to So Taguchi. Jimmy Rollins than doubled home 2 runs.
  • The Mets scored 1 in the 9th off Brad Lidge but failed to score any more.

"After seeing that, you can't help feeling that you want ot be out there. A lot of different things could might have happened if I was out there. I'd rather be the guy standing here taking the blame instead of lettign my teammatessuck on this one." - Billy Wagner
