Where's Dale Jr. headed?
May 10, 2007 | 7:52AM | report this

Now that we know Dale Jr. won't be racing for the company his dad founded, the question is simple: What's next?

There's talk of Hendrick, Childress and even Gibbs ... or maybe just expanding his own JR Motorsports and starting his own team.

Needless to say, with his talent and name and the sponsorship of Budweiser behind him, he can pretty much do what he wants.

Let's hear what you think of the latest developments and where Jr. will wind up.

I think the Budweiser #3 car would be awesome. And the RCR program is a perfect fit for Junior.

Let him leave and learn how hard it is to play with the big boys. There are others using Hendrick power but don't measure up to Jeffy and Jimmie

I agree. RCR would be good for him. To see him in the #3 Bud would be awesome. I think Teresa's an #### for losing him cause I heard that Truex Jr and Tony Jr are leaving with Junior. So she's losing a lot today and all she'll have left, if the DEI / Yates merger doesn't happen, is Dale Earnhardt memorabilia. I love Dale Earnhardt Sr but proceeds from that alone is not going to run the company. I think Junior played it smart the whole way and is doing what makes him happy. Go Junior! (I think when the total value of DEI drops, Junior should buy it out and turn it into what his daddy wanted for them)

I agree with Jr. I can't believe Theresa is acting this way. She new what Dale wanted for his kids and he must be rolling in his grave over what is happening to his company and family. I hope he wins the Championship just to throw it back in Theresa's face. You go Dale Jr. we're all behind you.

Childress has mentioned before that he wanted a fourth driver...enter Junior. This would be a perfect fit for him. The fact that Childress and the Earnhardts have a long history should be hands down. BTW why even mention about going to the Hendrick Team? They've already got 4 drivers who's success...well y'all know about that.

I think since he cant continue his fathers legacy like he would have wanted him to by racing for the team he founded, racing the #3 is an awesome idea and his dad would be proud. I dont think it matters where JR goes, he will be successful and Teresa will always be kicking herself in the #### for losing a good driver and whoever else may leave with him! I support him all the way! :-)

this would be good two ways. either go to rcr and race the bud #3, or start his own team through jr motorsports and buy the 3 from rcr. win win either way!! go jr and lets hear from the jr nation!!

Wow I knew this was going to happen.RCR would be a natural place for Junior but I can see him going to Joe Gibbs and Racing with Tony Stewart. Gibbs Racing is the only team beside Hendricks that have a strong COT program.

Would love to see him go with Childress and a #3 since the organization has its heart back. But wonder if Budweiser would mind the car being black instead of red. I think the Jr. Nation could adjust.

I THINK JR SHOULD GO TO RCR BECUASE OF THE RESPECT THEY BOTH HAVE FOR EACH OTHER ALSO I THINK IT WOULD BE A MISTAKE TO START HIS OWN TEAM AND RACE FOR HIS TEAM LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MICHAEL WALTRIP . WHERE EVER JR GOES I WILL FOLLOW HIM

Teresa must have her blinders on and doesn't care that she's losing her "bread & butter"!! We would all LOVE to see Dale Jr. in the #3 Budweiser car but I'm sure wherever he ends up he will be much happier and we'll see him up front alot more on the race track. You go Jr. and keep your chin up...we're all backing you 100%

I think he'll be in a #3 Bud car. I personally think he'll replaced Casey Mears at HMS or he'll run in a Jr. Motorsports car with HMS engines/engineering. RCR is my favorite option, but somehow I think that won't happen.

Teresa needs to back out of DEI, she will NEVER be a true Earnhart. Jr will have all his fans following no matter what he does, but what an honor to be in the # 3 car. God Bless you JR.

I think it was the right move at the right time. DEI seems to have peaked, and even fallen behind other teams. I think he would be foolish to start his own team.Too many distractions. His focus should be on winning championships. Though he could join the Hendrick Super team, I think in the end he'll go to RCR. Junior has always tried to carve out an individual career for himself, and tried to get away from his father's shadow. That is impossible. Most fans root for him because he's Dale Earnhardt's son. I know I do.

I think his decision is a wise one. I hate the fact that his step mother could not come together, because as we all know this is not what Dale Sr would have wanted. I would love to see him team up with Richard Childress. But as for Teresa she will find out what a mistake she has made. I cant see anyone wanting to drive for her. We will see what happens.

I think it would be awesome if JR drove the #3 Bud car!! Teresa is an #### for letting him go. I can only imagine what Dale Sr. would think of this. Teresa is the only one losing out on this deal. I love you, Jr., and will follow you anywhere you go!!!!

I heard that he will be using a Hendricks chassis, and Hendricks built engines. Who's winning the car of tomorrow races? Hendrick's Motorsports! I smell a championship within 2 years.

Go Junior, Go! You will win more championships somewhere else. Teresa wasn't able to give you what you needed for those championship and she never would be able too. Budweiser and the number 3 will send the NASCAR fans over the moon! It would be the greatest partnership in history and Dale Jr's fan base would soar! Everyone in their right mind would be thrilled including myself!

I wonder what Teresa has up her sleeve - business wise. Why would you let a good, popular, and marketable driver go? I wonder if Teresa's sidekick and recent hire as President of Global Operations, Max Siegel, had any influence to Junior's departure considering his strong credentials and his reputation for being shrewd and business savvy.

As we have all seen in the past, driver/owner operators don't do so well for themselves. Even Earnhardt Sr chose not drive for himself. Jr. has said in the past that he wants to drive the #3 for RCR in the future. It was supposed to be after a championship with DEI, but I don't see that happening-where does that leave JR-RCR?

Comments of fans should be limited to their right to be a fan or not. If you are a fan of Dale then you should support his decision. Nothing needs to be said that is negative about Dale or Theresa. I respect Dale as a person and support him as a fan whatever he decides. Shalom and God's Grace

I agree with Jr. driving the #3 Bud car. I had hoped that he would stay with the team that his dad founded, but he has to do what is best for him and right now that is not DEI. I hope that his step-moter realizes that she is losing a very talented driver. I believe that this is the best decision of Jr. at this time. Who knows maybe he could back to DEI in the future. I hope that Sr. is not to upset. I will follow Jr. wherever he goes. I am a Jr. & Sr. fan for life.

I am glad JR made a the choice to stand up to Teresa. I would like to see if jr could stand on his own and not in the shadow of his dad. I think JR should go to a team that can help him win a championship but I think he should hold off racing the #3 until after he has a Nextel title. JR is a talented driver and a great guy but was virtually unknown until 2001 when his dad died. SR fans jumped to JR.

Dale Jr. and Kelly need to get full control of DEI, But since that is not going to happen right now. #3 BUDWEISER for RCR. That will show everyone what he can do.

The only thing that could be better than the Budweiser #3 would be the Goodwrench #3, but alas you can't have everything. There is no other place for Jr. to go except to RCR

I think RCR #3 is the most logical. But with the strength that Hendricks is showing this year it would make sense. Gibbs could be a dark horse in this with Jr's friendship with Smoke. Driver/Owner thing would be a poor move. The ball is definitely in Jr's court.
