Race Cars, Playlists…and Pizza Rolls

Hey!

All right folks, I promised you a playlist, so go look these songs up, add them to your “Landon’s Playlist” on iTunes and turn the music up before you read the rest of this entry.

I tend to listen to different kinds of music depending on what I’m doing. Like anyone else, I have music that pumps me up, calms me down and any other kind of music that I just listen to in any mood. So here is a little bit of what I’ve been listening to this week:

“I am Hollywood” – He is Legend

“You’re all I have” – Snow Patrol

“Aside” – The Weakerthans

“7 weeks” – Gym Class Heroes

Now that you are listening to this week’s playlist, I can start talking about my race on Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway. As you all know, I was pretty excited to get back into my National Guard Chevrolet this weekend after quite a long wait. It’s pretty difficult getting back into a car after such a drought of races, especially to jump in six races behind everyone else.

We had a decent day on the track. It was more of a “getting back in the swing of things” day for me, so I was just getting re-acquainted with everything that was going on. I was pretty happy that I was able to improve from practice to the race like I had planned. There are a lot of new things that a new driver like me picks up on during a race, and I feel like I caught most of what came at me. We were on our way to a top 15 finish when the radiator pan broke, which kills the downforce in the front of the car. Basically, that terribly affected my handling, and even though we still finished 19th, I wasn’t able to hang on to the top 15 that the No. 5 National Guard team deserved. I look forward to improving once again at Phoenix International Raceway in April!

So following this exciting weekend at the race track, and Easter Sunday, I am now in Richmond, Virginia testing my National Guard Chevrolet for our upcoming Nationwide Series race in May. We were pretty fast on Monday, but we struggled with the car later in the day. Hopefully today, my crew chief Chad Walter and the rest of my guys can get the car back on track.

I’m not quite sure what I’m doing with my off weekend yet. I’m thinking I might go back and visit my family in Iowa, but I’m not sure if I have time to. Any ideas?

One more thing before I answer emails/comments. I’m not sure if you guys heard this interview, but I was on XM Satellite Radio (Channel 144) with Claire B. Lang last week, and she had people call in and give me good ideas for a lucky charm. I’m not sure if I should be relying too much on luck, because most of the luck that comes my way isn’t very good luck anyways, but what the heck, give me some of your ideas!

Drop me a comment or e-mail me this week at landoncassillfoxblog@live.com.

Cheers,

Landon

P.S. Forgot to mention… Please note the picture I’ve included with this blog. It’s of me and Dwight Schrute (or more like a bobblehead version of the character from “The Office.”) We’re just hanging outside my hauler before driver intros at Nashville. He will be traveling with the No. 5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet team for awhile – we’re basically doing the whole “Flat Stanley” deal with him at the various tracks this season. Good times!

Dwight Schrute (The Office): “As of this morning, we are completely wireless, here at Schrute Farms. But as soon as I find out where Moses hid all the wires, we'll get that power back on.”

Awesome job at Nashville!

I saw somewhere that you're driving the #4 at Mexico, is that true?

LC: Yes I am! I’m extremely excited to be racing with James Finch and Phoenix Racing at Mexico City. I think it will be a great opportunity for me to get some extra seat time and some valuable experience at the road courses. That should be pretty exciting. I mean wow, a race in Mexico.

You are right driving to Bristol is the only way! it was such a beautiful drive! hope you didn’t drive by yourself....company makes it so much better!

LC: Yeah it was fun. Steve Crisp, JR Motorsports’ director of motorsports, did ride back with me, but I did have to drive down alone from Charlotte to Bristol. Can you believe no one would ride with me? I still had a good time even by myself. A co-pilot would be nice next time though.

Landon, I was wondering what favorite foods you eat?

LC: My truck driver Andy Taylor makes us pizza rolls all the time and I really love those. They are terrible for you but that’s OK, I love them. I was born and raised in Iowa, so I’m definitely a steak and potatoes guy, but I do have a little wild side. I LOVE sushi. I think the main reason that works with me is because I’ll try almost anything once, and most of that stuff isn’t as gross as it looks.

Landon - good job in Nash-vegas. Good luck in the upcoming races, especially Mexico City. How many road courses have you raced on?

As far as what to do this weekend . . . do you ever take your Vette to any 1/4 mile tracks?

Love the pic Landon, totally you.

But anyways, I see that both you and Brad K are doing the raceway club thing at Phoenix, in 3 weeks. Are you yourself doing any other signings at or off the track that weekend.

Also, awesome thing for Mexico! Remember, dont drink the water (that means ice too, lol).

Cant wait for next weeks blog! Is it Tuesday yet?

And love the songs they're on my playlist now.

You should try the band A Change of Pace, I think you'd like em.

Till next week.
