Boston Celtics: Two Down
Jun 09, 2008 | 12:29PM | report this

Josh Q. Public:  Happy days are here again.  The skies above are clear again.  So lets sing a song of cheer again.  Happy days are here again.  -Barbara Streisand

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  What?  What?  I thought so.  Everything’s coming up roses.  Wooo doggie!  Bunny Bryant.  Bunny Bryant got his looks last night.  Bunny Bryant got his thirty points last night.  Thirty A-Broad points.  Alex Rodriguez points.  Points that do not matter.  You know what matters?  Huh?  Do ya?  100 points matter.  That’s it.  Before this series started, I was listening to Mike & the Mad Dog.  I was listening to Bob Ryan on Mike & The Mad Dog.  Bob Ryan gave a stat.  A meaningful stat.  A telling stat.  A significant stat.  Bob Ryan said the Lakers are something like 4-20 when they score under 100 points this season.  Something like.  We’ll get Tony Vincent Terry Duerod Reali to get us the real number after the show.  But you get the picture.  The Lakers do not win when they score under 100 points.  That’s the picture.  A picture is worth a thousand words.  The Celtics hold you to under 100 points.  They hold you to under 100 points all the time.  That’s what they do.  That’s all you need to know.  You don’t need to know how good Big Show Leon Powe was last night.  You don’t need to know how Big Show Leon Powe etched his name into this rivalry.  Powefection.  It just doesn’t matter.  It doesn’t matter the Truth, the whole truth and nothing but the Truth scored twenty-eight points on his sprained right knee.  It doesn’t matter that Rajon Rondo and his freakishly large hands are finally realizing their true potential.  It doesn’t matter that the Celtics nearly blew a 24-point lead in the fourth quarter.  All you need to look at is the scoreboard.  I know.  I know.  102.  Not 100.  Close enough.  Close enough when you have the best defense in all of basketball.  The best defense in all the land.  The best defense in the free world.  Best defense in both the regular and post seasons.  I may sound like a broken record.  Go.  Go Cut Creator go!  I may sound like a broken record, but I don’t care.  I don’t have to care.  Tom Thibedeau cares.  Kevin Garnett cares.  Ray Allen cares.  Paul Pierce cares.  They care enough to play defense.  They care enough for all of us.  NBA.  Win or go home!

Peace out homies.  Six two and even!

Excellent comedy, Josh.
You make some good points. A-Rod points ... good one ... that may become a permenant part of the American lexicon. Did you make that up yourself or what? If so, copyright that sucker.
The question in this series is do you like defense or offense? Right now, you gots to like D!!! If they get it ... Boston's big 3 deserve every inch of that big trophy.

I must agree. One more win and the Lakes are no way going to win 4 in a row or 3 out of 4!. Though I believe Phil does deserve to break Red's record.

It's time for the Keltics to C's the day ...

But a brutal L.A. awaits them, bro.

As long as Boston remains committted to defense, and if they refuse to let a reversal in the ref's whistles distract them, they'll win two more games in order to hoist another banner in the Garden.

Holler!!!

Just imagine watching a game that was called fairly by the officials.

A foul on one end of the court should be a foul on the other.

Likewise, a no-call should be the same on either end.

Best quote from Kobe, when asked about the (unprecedented) 3.8 times more free throws awarded to the Celtics, "I didn't notice".

Lol.

i dont know what is the surpriced with the celt lead i have been a all boston team sports my hole life even though im from puerto rico i lived in worcester for 20 years and how sweet it is to see us on top in everything. the celt stop all the top players including a verry inspired 2headed monster from atlanta. lebron james who is and incredibly fisical player, and the pistons who themselves have a great defence is knoun to everyone the lakers are a one dimencional team offence, they must score 110 because the other team is at least going to get 100 they cant defend a elder

JQP,

You know I've been supporting the Celts all year.

Lakers went to the basket to the tune of 31 points in the paint to 30 for the Celtics.

How can that possibly translate to the Celtics getting 3.8 times as many free throws?

Fan or not, it's too big to call it fair...

Before the series started, Lakers fans were at an all-time high as far as confidence is concerned.

Now, the Celtics are up 2-0 and Boston fans are talking about "how sweet it is."

I never thought the NBA Finals was a two-game series.

Good for you.

A little miss leading nbaworst. How many points in the paint would the Celtics have had if the Lakers wouldn't have fouled them and sent them to the line. If you take away the 2 intentional Laker fouls at the end, the Lakers were only called for 5 more fouls then the Celts. 26-21.

Is it accurate officaiting to try and even out foul shots or is it just better to attempt to call the game accurately regardless?

I only watched the 3rd quarter and the highlights but I could probably point out a half a dozen bad calls that went against the Celts. Either way there will be zero chance of a fairly officaited game 3 because of the stink.

Lakers in 6
Kobe's Laker Nation is the unstoppable juggernaut your mother told you about. Denver swept, Utah spanked in mormon town & eliminated, then-San Antonio, the FORMER reigning champions dismantled in 5 games...the ZEN MASTER will channel the warrior in the team led by THE BLACK MAMBA. The challenger (Phil will instill) is formidable but CLEARLY NOT INSURMOUNTABLE...AND...with this TRUE sense of direction and purpose in 6 games the Laker Nation will be in posession of the coveted NBA crown...the Laker DYNASTY WILL BE RESURRECTED in this series!...Celtics ESCAPE FROM L.A. down only to lose the title for the second time on their home floor AGAIN to the Lake Show...THE MASTER WILL COOLY LIGHT HIS VICTORY CIGAR....and so will THE BLACK MAMBA!
Lakers got skillz baby!!!!!

pkrew,

You didn't even watch the game, but feel you can make a meaningful comment?

NBA, Points in the paint does not = driving to the hoop...JS in the paint are figured into that stat, as well...and oh by the way, your stats are wrong...LA did indeed have more points in the paint, but you didn't do your research.
in game 1, LA fans said that LA beat themselves; in game 2, LA fans said that the refs beat LA; I wonder who is gonna be responsible for LA losing game 3?
Better watch out, else a big conspiracy just might sweep LA out of the finals !
Do some research next time; base your comments on facts and not conjecture.
