Josh Q. Public:What they say? You ain’t nothin’ but a soldier. Yeah, straight hard truth soldier. Believe. You ain’t nothin’ but a soldier. Yeah, hard truth soldier. -Public Enemy
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. I’ve said Paul Pierce is the most underrated player in the world. That’s what happens. That’s what happens when you don’t play in big games on the big stage. When you don’t play in big games on the big stage, you become underrated. Well, the Truth is, Paul Pierce ain’t underrated no more. He just played his biggest game on the biggest stage against the biggest star in the league and he came on top. Like my main Winston Curchill always says, “A lie gets halfway around the world before the Truth has a chance to get its pants on.” The Truth got its pants on last night. The Truth got its pants on and scored forty-one points. Scored forty-one big points to lead the Celtics to victory. The smell, you know that gasoline smell. The whole hill. Smelled like… victory. Someday this war’s gonna end. It ain’t gonna end ’till Paul Pierce says it’s gonna end. And yesterday afternoon, he said no such thing. Yesterday afternoon, Paul Pierce put the Celtics in the Conference Finals for the first time since 2002. Yesterday afternoon, Paul Pierce did his best Cornbread Maxwell imitation. The Perfessor. Did his best Cornbread Maxwell imitation and said, “Climb on my back, boys.” Before Game Seven of the 1984 Finals against the Showtime Lakers, Maxwell told his teammates to climb on his back and then proceeded to torch Big Game James Worthy as the Celtics won their 15th title. Yesterday, the Truth proceeded to torch LeBron James as the Celtics won another Game Seven. KG: “Tonight was basically get the ball to Paul Pierce and everyone else just get out the way.” Get out the way while the Truth scores twenty-six points during the first half. Get out the way while the Truth nails down pull-up Js. Get out the way while the Truth knocks down killer threes. And finally, get out the way while the Truth dives to the floor to get the loose ball, call a time out, and put this one in the bank. It ain’t over yet. No fat ladies singing yet. Now Paul Pierce and the Celtics must go against the Deetroit Pistons. The Deetroit Pistons have been here before. I came in the door. I said it before. I never let the mic magnetize me no more. The Deetroit Pistons are in the Conference Finals for the sixth straight season. The mic ain’t magnetizing them. Paul Pierce might. Might mageitize them. Hypnotize them. Mesmerize them. Tantalize them. Captivate them. Devastate them. If Paul Pierce keeps this play up, the Celtics are headed for title number seventeen. And that’s the double-truth, Ruth!

Its funny cause everybody today comes out appraising the boston celtics and their is no doubt in my mind that they deserve it as much as ray allen missed three-pointers yesterday in the big game, NONE.
Everybody keeps jumping on the bandwagon but its ok because the ride will soon be over, i always said the boston celtics were not going to have a problem cruising thru the first and second round of the playoff's but as we saw it was more than a cruise for boston but yet a breather as pierce almost didn't make the crucial free-point of the game. It was sad to see the hawks the number 8th seed in the playoff's coming as close to rip the heads of those mini paul pierce bobble heads, lets not even mention what lebron james almost nearly self-handed the boston celtics himself. What happen to the much powerful boston celtics that danny ainge constructed himself where he was nearly scared and terrified that if the boston celtics got eliminated by lebron james himself he would have caused one of the biggest upsets in sports history and for good luck charm buddies tom brady and randy moss where their just to give them that extra push they needed cause as all boston assumed they where already champions. Their is no doubt in my mind that paul pierce played good in game 7 but his whining indeed does not make up for his play, everybody has known him for the big baby cry as he doesn't even dribble the ball and already is expecting a foul call and its sad that a player like him being underrated for so long play in such a low level.

Everybody else on the celtics team played horrible in both the hawks and cav series. Well lets hope better luck for them next series as they will needed, maybe if the celtics were as noble as for example the hornets maybe everybody would feel different about them. Like josh said "The mic ain’t magnetizing them. Paul Pierce might. Might mageitize them. Hypnotize them. Mesmerize them. Tantalize them. Captivate them. Devastate them." i hope that pierce make wake-up from the dream and realize that its not as simple as he thinks, like teammate k.g. has tried for so long they will remain unsuccessful and maybe bill russell will share one of his ring not only with k.g. and pierce. I just hope the police in boston are ready for the biggest riot when the celtics loose. Please boston fans do me favor stop comparing them to the big 3 cause their nowhere near that accomplishment. Josh i've read your blog for a long time and your always on top but in this review you went from uphill to downhill.

JoshQ The Celtics prevailed but it wasn't for the lack of trying. They've made things so difficult for themselves throughout the postseason.
Now they're going to meet a team in the Detroit Pistons who won't be as charitable as the Cavs and Hawks have been !
Let's hope that they can raise the level of their game at least up a couple of notches . As they'll definitely need to against the Pistons.
Had to bring up the Lakers 1984 loss huh?
Killing us in the 60's wasn't enough?
I'll mention the 1987 Magic baby hook, just for kicks.
I'm glad it was a "true" Celtic who got them over the hump. All the imports they have on this rent-a-cop team makes it hard to keep track who's who.
PJ Brown earned his check this week.
80% of the time Lebron took the inbounds pass and dribbled over half court, then spent almost all the rest of the clock dribbling around Celtic defenders while his teammates stood and watched. He put on a highlight film show.
Paul Pierce worked without the ball, dished a number of times his teammates missed gimme shots and should have had a dozen assists otherwise. Pierce didn't try to work outside the system or himself, always took the two steps if available to get the closer shot and in every single case he turned the ball over he was fouled without the call being made.
Pierce had one of the greatest team leader games I have ever seen in my life.
Good blog, nice film

ramp- i just don't get it. didnt the celtics just beat the team the pistons couldnt beat last year?
P&G- i hope so baby!
Nique- pierce has been this good for a long time. his surrounding cast has been much worse than lebrons and kobes. b4 the garnett pick up, pierce had the c's in first before his injury. had them in first with nobody.
While I agree with Lakersfan that The Celtics will have to win a game in Detroit to win the East I think that the longer it goes that they don't win a game on the road the more likely it is that they will. They are 0-6 in the playoffs now and nobody would have guessed that would happen. No way they go without a win on the road in this series. I think they have to have some help from Ray Allen, they have to maintain intensity and not sleep like they did coming out in the third quarter last game and they need some consistency from Rondo or for Gollum (cassel) to get in and do something.
i cant wait for this series. just like the good ole days.
thoughts on ray allen- he's always been the star. always took about 20 shots/game. thats way down this year. less of a chance to get in a groove. but dont be fooled. he's such a smart player. he helps this team in so many ways.
JoshQ
In all honesty both you and I know that this series could've been finished in 5 games had the Celtics got their heads into the series from the outset. Instead they allowed the Cavs to stick around for way too long.
And if you think that the Pistons for one are going to be so charitable then you're sadly mistaken. Your boys are going to be in for one hell of a wake up call. Of that I can assure you and I think you know it also at this juncture !
That Pistons team of last year went through the motions and fell asleep at the wheel underestimating James and the Cavs. They're not going to let that happen a second time at all !
