Boston Celtics: Believe It!
Mar 06, 2008 | 7:18AM | report this

Josh Q. Public:  Struck me kinda funny, seemed kinda funny sir to me.  At the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe.  Bruce Springsteen

Public Service Announcement:  OK, here we go!  Woooo doggy!  Larry Bird is not walking through that door, fans.  Kevin McHale is not walking through that door, and Robert Parish is not walking through that door.  They don’t need to.  It’s the new style.  Four and three and two and one.  When I’m on the mic, the suckers run.  Suckers are running.  The Boston Celtics just put the entire basketball world on notice.  The Boston Celtics just sent the entire basketball world a message.  Oh the lonely days are gone.  I’m coming home.  My baby, she wrote me a letter.  Yes, the lonely days are gone.  The Celtics wrote a letter.  The letter said, “I’m Godzilla.  You are Japan!”  What?  You thought this was a fluke?  Thought they’ve been lucky?  Thought this was an accident?  Thought you said are you all right, Spider.  Think again.  The Celtics’ position atop the NBA, contrary to popular opinion, has not been a result of a soft first half schedule.  The Celtics’ position atop the NBA, contrary to popular opinion, has not been a result of a soft Eastern Conference.  The Celtics’ position atop the NBA, contrary to popular opinion, has been a result of one thing and one thing only.  They’re good.  Real good.  Last night, the Boston Celtics clinched a playoff spot by smashing everybody’s pet pick in the East.  Smashed the Beasts of the East.  Smashed them real good like.  The Big Ticket smashed them.  He didn’t fill it up for fifty while jawing with Spike Lee against the joke of the league.  He did the right thing.  He put on his hard hat and went to work.  Put on his hard hat and scored thirty-one.  He put on his hard hat and played defense.  Tough defense.  Rough defense.  Dare I say it?  Tenacious defense.  The Celtics played team basketball.  Five players on the floor functioning as one single unit: team, team, team.  No one more important that the other.  The Truth had fifteen, nailing the three-point dagger, threecola! Larry Bird style.  Rajon Rondo contributed sixteen, including a thunderous, posterizing don’t fake the funk on a nasty dunk in the mugs of  Rip Hamilton and Jason Maxiell.  Kendrick Perkins notched ten points and twenty boards.  Twenty rebounds!  Big Al who?  The Celtics never trailed in this game.  The Celtics never trailed in this statement sending game.  This buckwheats sending game.  Buckwheats is a whole other animal.  A guy orders a buckwheats hit, it just doesn’t mean take the guy out, it means take the guy out in the most painful way possible.  It means the vic should suffer.  Typical buckwheat hit is to shoot a guy up the ####.  Yeah, uh, ba-bing.  A slug up the ####, you don’t die so much as contort for a good fifteen minutes, then you die.  I imagine it’s like crappin’ white-hot razor blades.  I imagine the Pistons are crappin’ white-hot razor blades right now.  Heck, I imagine the whole daggone NBA is crappin’ white-hot razor blades right now.  As for the Celtics?  They’re sipping boat drinks.

Obviously a satisfying win, I was posting my congrats on your blog from yesterday when you posted this.

Great dunk by Rondo while getting smacked by Maxiell, I bet his head hurts today!

Pistons 4th quarter FG shooting of 22% says it all.

WHY couldn't that game with the two teams with the two best records in the league have been on national television instead of the Nugs and Suns????

So much for the "Celtics are slipping" talk. Here comes the bandwagon!

That's a really good point-the Celtics never trailed in the game. A very convincing win. I'm a little worried about the upcoming weeks (Spurs, Rockets, Mavs, Hornets in the same week and all away games!) If they win at least 3 out of 4 of those games, there's no doubt in my mind they'll be the #1 seed in the playoffs, and will go all the way.

Stern's right. That Rondo dunk was sweet even though he went down like a ragdoll after throwing it down WITH AUTHORITY!!!

C's should be do no worse than the Eastern Conference Finals. I wonder if the NBA will set viewership/ratings records for the playoffs this year.

JQP, It's not just the fact that your team is best, there are 12 truly competitive teams, and at least 6 or 7 legitimate contenders for the title depending on who is hot in the playoffs.

That hasn't happened in recent memory...

Whoooo Doggy!

Josh,
First of all good post. You have the most original blogs I have ever seen. Secondly great win and a convincing one at that for your Celtics last night. They are the "Beast of the East" that's for sure. I'm ready for the playoffs to begin myself and can't see anyone stopping your Celtics from reaching the NBA Finals.

thanks gambit, as big of a homer as i am, don't count the pistons out that easily. i still say the c's win it. not just that easily.

I'm from Detroit, and even I admit the Celtics are better right now than the Pistons; they're 2-1 against them, and the only thing that prevented a 3-0 record was Chauncey Billups' good relations with the refs! I just don't see the Pistons winning against a great team when two mediocre teams (Cleveland and Miami, in all fairness) beat them the last two years. And if it's a Lakers-Celtics final, that would really make it worth watching!

jqp,

I've been predicting a Lakers-Celtics final since the Gasol trade, even though I've been rooting for the Cavs. Somehow I think the league wants that marquee matchup so it probably will turn out that way.

Happy bandwagon driving!

nba,
you said: Somehow I think the league wants that marquee matchup so it probably will turn out that way.

To imply that is to imply that games are rigged,or am I assuming to much here?

"'cause it's a town full of losers and were pulling out of here to win!." Congrats on the game game, JQP.
It was a great night in front of the TV with Celts-Pistons, Caps-Sabres and Tennessee-Florida all on about the same time. One point about your team though: Rondo seems to get a little bit outside of himself for stretches at a time. You'll probably need quality minutes out of Cassell in the playoffs. But man, That was some dunk he had over #54 in the 2nd half.

mose i watched caps/sabres too. i know i gush over ovechkin maybe a little too much, but my goodness.

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals. It was his 28th multiple-goal game in his three seasons in the NHL. The most by any player in the league over that span. (Dany Heatley is second with 26).

i'm not a college guy so....

as for the c's, rondo/cassell will be plenty

I hate the Celtics. I've always like Paul Pierce though.

You won't see me on any bandwagon. I just beat the Celtics on NBA Live with the Blazers (with a healthy Oden), so clearly they're not all that.

Saw the Suns/Nuggets game last night our time on ESPN . Found it enjoyable to watch Carmelo & Camby defend, "AI" move like a running back & what's with the "clangers" from Nash?
Enjoyed a guy named Hubbie Brown on the special comments.
