Josh Q. Public:You upset me baby, upset me baby. Like being hit by a falling tree. Woman, what you do to me. -BB King
Public Service Announcement: OK, here we go! Just a short one today. Just a short one from the basketball court one today. Butler Basketball. Butler Bulldog Basketball. Can they do this? Do they have a shot? Just what makes that little old ant think he’ll move that rubber tree plant. Anyone knows an ant can’t, move a rubber tree plant. But he’s got high hopes, he’s got high hopes. He’s got high apple pie, in the sky hopes. In the land of the chalk, the Butler Bulldogs have high hopes. No one can make this ram scram. Couldn’t make ‘em scram from the Pre-Season NIT. In the pre-season NIT, the Bulldogs high hoped Notre Dame. They high hoped Indiana. They high hoped Tennessee and Gonzaga. High hoped themselves all the way to the championship. This team has beaten Purdue in the regular season. They made their way into the top ten and have been ranked among the nation’s top twenty teams since November. Beat number four seed Maryland in the tournament. Moving rubber tree plants left and right. These guys are outta sight. They face the biggest of rubber tree plants tonight.
AJ Graves has high hopes. “That’s fine. They didn’t say we’d win versus Maryland either.” He’s not gettin’ low. He’s not lettin’ go. Why should he? MVP of the NIT Season Tip-Off, he’s the Jimmy Chitwood of this dance. He’s a dancin’ fool. Dancin’ like those other old fools, Emmit, Jerry and Clyde the Glide. Like Myra Fleener always says: ” He’s a real special kid and, and I have high hopes for him.” This kid can shoot. Shoot the lights out. Shot the lights against Old Dominion. Shot the lights out against Maryland. He’s gonna have to shoot the lights again tonight against the Gators if Butler wants to take this thing. If they really want that brass ring. If they really wanna be all that and a chicken wing. I’ve seen you guys can shoot but there’s more to the game than shooting. There’s fundamentals and defense. Welcome to Indiana Basketball. Butler Bulldog basketball. Disciplined basketball. Mike Green is disciplined. He has high hopes. High apple pie in the sky hopes. He was disciplined enough to take the Horizon League’s Newcomer of the Year Award. Disciplined enough to finish as the team’s leading rebounder. As a six foot guard. Disciplined enough to finish as the team’s second-leading scorer. Second team All-League. Playing relentless defense. Dogged defense. Bull Dogged defense. Played Bull Dogged defense against ODU. His Bull Dogged defense along with Graves’ shooting, just shut down the vaunted ODU offense. Shut ‘em down, shut ‘em, shut ‘em down. Public Enemy style. Brandon Crone has high hopes. He’s not feelin’ bad. He’s not feelin’ sad. He’s a Two-time All-State baller from Indiana’s own Frankfort High. Get the papers, get the papers. He set school records for career scoring and rebounding. He was MVP. of the state AAU tournament, which his team won. He was voted Butler’s captain as a sophomore. He had a 27-point outburst in a game against Ohio State last season. But what this guy does. What this guy does all the time is: Go out and get his ten to fifteen points a game. Go out and get his four to seven boards. Play Bull Dogged defense. Play Butler Bull Dogged defense. For Butler to win tonight, they’re going to have to continue that Bull Dogged defense. They’re going to have to continue to hit the threes. The magic number. Don’t forget, Butler set a Horizon League record by making 314 from beyond the arc. They scored thirty-six of their sixty-two points on Downtown Freddie Browns against the Terps. So they can do this. Like they always knew this. They’re playing the defending National Champions tonight. They’re playing the number one seed in the NCAA Tournament tonight. But, all those problems just a toy balloon. They’ll be bursted soon. They’re just bound to go pop. Oops there goes another problem kerplop. Butler Bulldogs Basketball, ladies and gentlemen. Butler Bulldogs basketball.
Butler will do fine but I really do doubt now that they'll have the tenacity to usurp the Gators. That being said trhe saying goes ' expect the unexpected'. If they should beat the Gators then it'll send shock waves of seismic proportions across the college basketball horizons. But I for one don't believe that they've caught ligthning in a bottle !
Yeh for Tubby as he left town thinking the people and the alumni of the Wildcats would've strung him up like Emmett Till. Hell he didn't even whistle at a white woman ! All he did was to try to resurrect the school's fortunes. It's not all his fault as he wasn't able to recruit the 'blue chip' prospects that they've been known to obtain. Perhaps it was because he didn't possess Pitino's charm and wit as to why he didn't succeed ?
JoshQ ............If that happens then I'll lose all respect for Calipari. As it'll just prove that he's nothing but a mercenary.
He's doing great at Memphis and why would he want to leave 'em for a college at the moment that's in a bit of a tailspin. There's talk that they'll approach Tom Izzo about the vacant position. Even that'd be more of a shock if he were to leave. But in this day and age you can never tell as it's the lure of the money more than anything else ! It's no longer about coaching in a prestigeous environment insomuch as it's about the money and nothing else would really seem to matter.
Let's hear it for La Russa as he chose to 'man up' and admit his stupidity for being caught DUI. Had it been much worse we'd be quite possibly be talking vehicular manslaughter. It could've been that close ! What is it with these ####s who choose to drink and drive and put not only their lives at risk but also the lives of others in the process ?

I BET BUTLER LOSES TO FLORIDA BY THE SCORE OF 65 TO 57. JUST A PREMONITION I HAVE. I REALLY LIKE BUTLER THIS YEAR, AND FLORIDA CAN PLAY LIKE A WELL OILED MACHINE. TELL ME HOW I DO TOMMOEEOW.
Enjoyed the read (unfortunately, read it as part of my post game melt-down).
They HAD the tenacity. Having watched Todd Lickliter through the season, he does a lot of annoying whining to the refs throughout the game. What I thought might have been helpful would have been a near Norman Dale-like temper tantrum about 18 minutes into the first half, when the refs could see nothing but Butler fouls at the Florida end, ... well, at both ends ... I guess it's just not in him.
Other than that, it was an enjoyable game (in a "oh, it hurts so good" sorta way). Nice post, as usual.
That was an awesome game. They played their hearts out. Every game last night was everything we could have hoped for, minus the losses of a teams we were fond of.
That's alright, the losses were worth the reads...ha ha. I was really pulling for Vandy as their guys are actually there for the education and for most, it's the highlight of their athletic career.
i was pulling for all the dogs. check out this stat:
The Elite Eight will consist of four No. 1 seeds, three 2s and a 3. The combined "total: of 13 is only one higher than the lowest possible, and it is by far the lowest since the NCAA began seeding teams in 1979. The previous "low" was 18, set in 1993 and 1995.
That's amazing stuff. So far all my teams have advanced fine except for the bracket where I had Arizona going in. Other than that, everyone's in. Pretty darn lucky but I'm sure that will all go to pot now.I have NC, Memphis, and Kansas within the four. But beware the Monsters of Memphis taking my NC pick to advance there.
Cinderella never even made it out of the house this year. I like the games and all but the tourney this year is the least dramatic in recent memory. Unless you count top seeds coming back to ruin what would have been the otherwise wonderful upsets we have all come to love and expect. (I don't. Those suck.)
Hey congradulations Josh! That really awesome. I knew you had it in ya. I hope you'll still talk to us little people...ha ha. I'm going to have to check that out. How did you find out?
Great game between Ohio State and Memphis. I was really pulling for the big M. Now I hope NC takes them behind the wood shed and has their way with 'em.
JoshQ ......... This could well turn out to be one of the more entertaining Final Four's of recent years. As with each of the participants have a real pedigree and an appetite for the game. I'd like to still think that Florida has what it takes to repeat as champions. But either way I'd just like to see some great basketball come from each of the four remaining teams. At the end of the day that's all we can ask for !
And despite al of Kobe's recent outburst of scoring and almost everyone proclaiming that he should be this season's MVP. Let's just wait and see what materializes once the regular season is over. I admit he's having a monumental moment of high scoring games that the Lakers won. But what overall does that tell you about the rest of the team ? Obviously there aren't any other contributors on the team and it has become a one trick pony. I don't that was the way Phillip won when he had Michael, as he had others also contributing to the team's success. This present Lakers' team is hodge podge of pieces that don't fit integrally or otherwise. Anyway you look at it you've got to be amazed but then you ask. Is it being done with smoking mirrors ?
