NCAA Basketball: Whodayalike?
Feb 28, 2007 | 9:36AM | report this

Josh Q. Public:  You know that we’re down with wutchyalike.  Yeah with wutchyalike.  Yeah.  And though we’re usually on the serious tip check it out:  Tonight we’re gonna flip and trip and let it all hang out tonight.  We’re gonna say what we like.  -Digital Underground

Public Service Announcement:  OK, here we go!  Is to too early?  Maybe, but I’m getting squirrely.  Doing NCAA Basketball like my name was Bobby Hurley.  So the ####-chat has begun.  March Madness is almost here.  The questions are being asked.  Who are the contenders?  Who are the pretenders?  Who are the Cinderallenders?  And most importantly, whodayalike?  Who’s your daddy?  Do you still like Florida?  The Gators, fresh off losses to Vandy, LSU and good ole rocky top.  Rocky top Tennessee.  Can Yannik and Tito’s boys still hold it down?  Still go to town.  Downtown Freddy Brown.  Downtown Julie Brown?  Do you like The Ohio State University?  The Gigantic-O and company.  Seemingly getting better and better with each game.  Michael Conley emerging as a premiere floor general.  Do you like Georgetown?  The beasts of the Big East.  TEAM basketball.  Coach Norman Dale style.  Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert.  Hibbert and Green.  Green and Hibbert.  How bout UCLA?  Best of the West.  You like them?  Can hot point guard Darren Collison keep this up?  Is Arron Afflalo the real deal?  Do they have the rebounding to get them where they want to go?  To win the biggest of shows.  On Wisconsin, on Wisconsin.  Does the loss to the Buckeyes mean anything?  Does the loss of Brian Butch, the team’s leading rebounder mean more?  Kansas?  This Sherron Collins character sure has come on as a major late-game threat.  Before last night, the Jayhawks had won its last six games by an average margin of nearly thirty points.  Yowza!  Maybe the most unsung team so far.  Maybe the most scary team so far.  What will the Memphis Tigers do when they see real basketball teams?  Is Nick Fazekas enough to carry Nevada?  Can you count out Coach K and the DukiesCoach Pitino and the Cardinals?  How bout them HeelsBrandan Wright has scored in double figures in five of his last six games, including a career-high twenty-four against N.C. State on Wednesday.  The Salukis?  For real?  For real, for real?  Yes they are.  Did you see the Evansville game?  Did you see 6-foot-7, 235-pound, Saluki junior Randal Falker steal the show?  Steal the show with a career-high thirty points on thirteen of fifteen shooting.  Steal the show with a game-high seven rebounds.  The Butler Bulldogs?  The Maryland TerrapinsKevin Durant, all by himself?  Don’t wanna be all by myself anymore.  All by myself.  Don’t wanna live all by myself anymore.  Don’t worry, you won’t.  You’ll be living in the NBAMarquetteNotre DameBC?  Want some sleepers?  Sure to make the big teams weepers?  Jeepers creepers?  This year’s George Mason?  I’ll give you some.  Eastern Tennesssee State.  Courtney Pigram:   Twenty-nine points, eighteen dimes and grabbed eight boards the other night.  Talk about a monster.  The Winthrop Eagles.  Decimation in the Big South quarters. This team could be Sweet Sixteen bound. Keep flying under the radar and the Eagles are ready to shock the world.  Muhammad Ali style.  My homer pick?  Holy Cross.  First, the have to take care of business.  First, they have to take care of Bucknell.  But once that buffalo soldiering is done, Keith Simmons and defensive dynamo Torey Thomas will make some noise come March.  Who do I like?  Is that what you’re asking?  I’m gonna pick two.  Get the papers, get the papers.  Is that fair?  Do you care.  Do I dare?  I’m picking Georgetown and the Ohio State University.  Kinda like Kansas too.  Is that three?  Oh well.  There I said it.  March Madness, whodayalike?

Peace out homies.  Six Two and Even!

i cant decide whether losing butch is a big deal or not. i'd rather (if someone HAD to get hurt) it could have been jason chappel, but they didnt ask for my input before it happened.

if we face a team with 1 or more solid big men, not having butch will hurt. otherwise, i figure he's basically good for 1 good game (out of the entire tourney, and thats if they at least make it to the final 4).

none of it matters unless alando tucker pulls his head out of his rear end, drops the tracy mcgrady immitation, and gets back to playing ball.

i'll stick with florida, even though they've tanked (for whatever reason) lately, ohio state (because oden has to make it to the elite 8 at least before he goes pro), memphis (because i picked them last year and they failed me), and UNC, just because they should be there. that's my final four....today. it'll change i'm sure before the tourney starts.

I always wait until the brackets are released to see who I think is the favorite. I have been pretty good about picking the final four in the past. Just never predited a winner

Yeah, I will wait til the brackets come out as well. Since I picked Maryland and Cuse to win it all in their runs, I haven't had too much luck myself. But I will most likely stick with my boys to take it all. So we will see what happens.

JoshQ ......My faith in Gators' basketball is being severely tested at this moment. And it didn't help any that they lost to the Vols last night. I hope it wasn't because Pat Summitt dressed up in a cheerleader's outfit that really tested their intestinal fortitude as to the reason for them losing. Perhaps it might've been also the facxt that they turned over the ball twenty plus times during the game that also had something to do with it.
Even Vitale's assumption by Donovan as to the fact that Noah isn't all he's cracked up to be maybe infact correct afterall !n Horford certainly didn't help his cause any by his ineffective overall play. At the end of the day it'll be abou who remains the most consistent leading up to the NCAA's. And then once the tournament begins whether or not that team can retain that level of play throughout the tournament. That to my mind will be the deciding factor
as to who'll win overall !

I can't wait either. The maddness is approaching. I don't usually make my picks until the brackets are out, but one team you didn't mention that I like is VA Tech. Maybe not all the way, but I see them going deep in the tourny.

top & flavor- the gators are the team to beat. they need to get out this funk to prove they are we thought they were.

vi: i dunno, N.C. State put on a shooting clinic against them last week.

I can not wait for march madness, usually wait for the brackets, but as of now, I have to go with UCLA, they just closed out a perfect home schedule. Plus being the supersticious fool I am, went out for breakfast a couple of weekends ago and Coach Wooden was sitting next to us.

Just cause UCLA went undefeated at home has nothing to do with how they will do in the tourney. You know the games are played at neutral sites? How a team does on the road is of more importance.

What's up, bro?

Just checking in to read your latest. Quality as usual.

Instead of quoting the lyrics, you need to develop and mp3 attachment so I can #### the Digital Underground. But what do I know, I listen to hip-hop and am a 'thug enabler.'

I still have to go with my heart and choose Florida, BUT if opponents start to stand around in awe watching Kevin Durant, I like Texas to go far.

FYI, you knew Tupac was in the Underground, right?

What happened to the Pac 10? They are the toughest conference (according to the pollsters anyway...sec and big 10 look tuff too)this year and I couldn't find any mention (ok...ucla was mentioned, sort of) of them (sniff sniff). UCLA, USC and Washinton St are all for real!

JQ... check you out, you are all over the top page lately... nice man.

You know, I'm going to wait for the bracket here... because when I come up with a list of teams that I like to go far... they put the bracket out, and they always end up near each other, aqnd then I have to sit there and pick ones over the other. It just never fails.

Honestly though... OSU is tough, but something tells me they will fold somehow. I would say the inexperience... but that isn't a good enough reason, because the 'Cuse won it young. The Badgers had that injury, and have looked sloppy at times... they could be short on depth now. It is going to be interesting. I think I'll share my picks on a post near or after Selection Sunday... but hey... a good post as always bro. Talk to you later - KP

It is hard to say who is gonna be there at the end. There is really no clear cut favorites lke there have been for the last few years. Depending on how the brackets match up this is my final four.

UNC- Winners
Wisconsin- depending on their bracket
UF- same as wisconsin
And for the cindrella- VA Tech- Wins over Duke and UNC on the road. Have to give them some consideration.

Have you really watched them play. When a team comes into Chapel Hill or Camron and does what VA Tech did, you have to give them credit. Not to mention the beating they put on Boston College. I know you watched that game. Or did you turn it after the lead got to 20? Point is that they have an impressive road record against some top teams. A team that plays like that on the road, isn't affected by a hostile crowd. So, how do you think that they will do on a neutral court?

JoshQPublic

ya they beat some good teams but they got crushed by nc state, lost to w.mich, lost to marshall, lost to gw, and maybe you forgot but the eagles smashed them too. or did you turn it off after 20?

Actually only saw that one game against BC. mainly b/c I don't like either team. I turned the other game after I saw VT get like 6 dunks in a row. I lost interest.

I'll go with Wisconsin as a pre-bracket pick, and with Southern Illinois to ruin a couple contenders dreams as the spoiler of the tournament - they'll get to the Elite 8 (but also need to see the brackets to feel better about that).

Well, I'm really not sure who to pick now!!! WOW..what a past couple of weeks. I really want to pick my Heels...however, after seeing their lack of intensity..I'm beginning to wonder if they even care. RIGHT NOW...I would have to give the nod to Kansas, Wisconsin/OSU, or UCLA. However, being on the lookout for up and comers like Memphis and Maryland. I'm tellin, the Terps have peaked..and are a confident bunch right now. They're my sleepers!!! And don't forget about George Mason..LOL!!

I normally wait until the brackets come out to pick my winners, but I'll go out on a limb right now, and then I'll change them again after the brackets are announced. Thus my name, "Undecided". :-} Wisconsin, Kansas, Georgetown. But I'll be rooting for the Pitt. Panthers to put it all together.

If they don't improve their play especially on the defensive side of things.

JoshQ ..........I read somewhere I believe that it was in USA Today where several of the coaches who've made this far in the NCAA's will be making some 'big money' in terms of bonuses. Boy has coaching become a business or what ? That being said they've probably earned it by getting their teams this far as much would be expected of them !
I've got three new posts up if you're interested in reading any of them. 1) Cuban, Cojibas And The Art Of Grandstanding...it deals with the antics of the Mavs' Mark Cuban and the team itself.
2) We're Bad But We're Not That Bad Are We ?......... that deals with the woefully mediocre Tampa Bay Devil Rays and what might be exepcted of them this season , if anything at all !
3)1steelerfan1 A Late And Belated B'day Gift From Me To You.......... this one you'll particularly like as there's a bevvy of scantilly clad females for you to peruse and look at your pleasure.
