Ah, yes Jets fans, once again the powers that be have the chance to land a hall of fame quarterback in his later years like when Joe Montana exited SF. May I bring you the 2008 Brett Favre Sweepstakes as mentioned here:
The question for us long time suffering fans is not if but how will management screw this deal up? Why am I being so harsh? Because we are talking about the Jets, a team that had no problem finding money for a used up Boomer Esiason or Vinny Testaverde or a flash in the pan Neil O'Donnell in the veteran sweepstakes, but failed to land such game changing play makers as Joe Montana, Randall Cunnigham, or even Jim McMahon when their moves to other teams meant something.
Looking at the replays of Brett Favre this last season, he seemed to have more in the tank than "hanging" Chad Pennington ever had on his best day when the stars were aligned with a great line and in the best of health as well as Kellen Clemens, a competent QB, but not an elite QB. Mr. Favre could smoke either one of them in a touch pass competition or a long ball hurling competition blind folded.
Laveranues Coles and the rest of the recieving corps as well as Thomas Jones & the running backs should be stamping up and down on Mangina and Woody that the team should do whatever it takes to get Favre. They could easily have career seasons and a AFC title or SB shot with Favre hurling the pigskin behind the revamped line.
Also, if Ainge is the quarterback of the future, who would you rather he learn from, the "weak armed" Pennington or the cannon armed Favre who has been to the big show.
If Green Bay is going to do something stupid like letting Favre go, the Jets should make every effort to get him since they aren't going to let him go to the Vikings or Tampa.
Mr. Whitlock makes the case to bash NBC's Football Tonight in America because it will reunite Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann from ther ESPN golden age of Sportscenter. Mr. Whitlock believes he has no conflict of interest in bashing NBC for this move. Here are some reasons that Mr. Whitlock is more full of it than a Thanksgiving turkey or Turducken (to reference the Madden days of Fox):
Mr. Whitlock is a News Corp employee.
News Corp employees get reprimanded for criticizing fellow employees in a public forum but encouraged to trash the competition.
ESPN Sportscenter with the Olbermann/Patrick line up had more people watching it than Mr. Whitlock has page views on his blog.
While the Olbermann/Patrick/Berman schtick may have been imitated, it has not been duplicated successfully by anyone else.
Mr. Whitlock, does it hurt that you are not the ringmaster on the Fox pre-game show so you feel the need to stump for the job by bashing the NBC competition to prove to old Rupert that you are loyal and get into consideration for the job? Why else would you bash NBC's move before even seeing the final product even once?
While the NBC show from last football season was far from perfect, your lack of knowledge about Costas quite successfully anchoring the NBC NFL pregame show in the 80's is quite laughable. You call yourself a journalist? You should hang your head in shame. 12 year old bloggers do better research than you do every day and do not collect a paycheck for what passes for reporting by standards that are much higher than your own.
Also, last time I checked, Frank Calliendro was not a football guy. Why in Sam Hill are his p-poor impersonations on the Fox pre-game show when half the time they are not even up to the low standards of "using the same voice all the time" Rich Little? Jillian Barbieri is hot mama, however having her as a weather girl does not add to the broadcast in any other way than T and A. Do you think that Fox actually airs a pre-game show without serious flaws as well? If you do, News Corp Human Resources may want to investigate your office supply requisitions, as you must be going through a lot of rubber cement to keep your mind in such a delusional state.
Your article smacks of conflict of interest. That may not be how you think you roll, but that is how you proved you roll with that article.
Let me start out by saying that I think people around the world should have a chance at making an honest day's livng for an honest day's work.
However, I do have a BIG problem with FoxSports.com's "contact us" link to report problems with their Fantasy League. Apparently times are so tough for Rupert and the boys at News Corp. that they outsource the problem tracking for the Fantasy Sports site to Microsoft.
OK, Microsoft may not have the greatest track record in fixing problems in record time (see Windows Vista Home Edition), but you would think for a website which is culturally American that they would have US based troubleshooters who actually know something about Fantasy Football and familiar with the Fox site architecture actually follow up on the error reports so there is clear communication and a quick fix to the problem. That would make sense to most rational people, right?
Apparently Steve Ballmer and his co-horts think differently (and not in the Steve Jobs kind of "think different" way). Your queries for the FoxSports.com Fantasy Football site get referred to a call centre in India. Yes, that's right, flag waving Fox has outsourced the troubleshooting on this site to India.
Here is the quality of the "help" that ol' Rupe and Steve think is good enough for you, Fox Sports fans. In my initial report on the contact us site, here is how I reported the problem:
" Draft rankings are not being saved. When will this be fixed prior to the draft. It is very frustrating to go through the list making selections and exclusions only to have the list not save.
Frequency of the issue: Always present [Always present] Who is your ISP? XXXXXX Have you recently installed any new software (if you enter yes please add more comments in the text box above)? No [No] Which operating system are you using?Windows XP, Service Pack 2 (SP2): Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; Media Center PC 4.0; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30; InfoPath.1; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.648) Which browser are you using: IE6"
That should be clear one would think, but no! Here is the response I recieved from India:
"Your message was forwarded to us at Windows Live Hotmail Technical Support. My name is Gloripher and I have gathered that you have concerns on draft rankings that were not saved. I know how important it is to have this addressed immediately.

Hmmm! OK, this is how I described the problem in more detail (since for some reason they think this is a Windows Hotmail problem) along with detailed screen shots which Fox of course won't let me post:
"1. The detailed description of the issue that I am having is that the below page is not saving changes to the Fox Sports.com database for my team on their website.
2. Here is the step by step.
a. I log in to my account and arrive at the following screen:
b. I make changes to the draft selection list on this screen as evidenced below:
c. I click the save player rankings on the same screen as per below:
d. The resulting screen as evidenced below shows that the changes are not saved:
3. As you can see, there is no error message displayed, the FoxSports.com Fantasy Football database is simply not saving the player rankings as evidenced by the screen refresh.
4. I can be at any computer, log onto my account on the FoxSports.com website and the same situation occurs. Therefore, there is no user error; there is a problem with the FoxSports website. This is why I contacted their customer support and got funneled to you to fix the problem for some reason.
Do you have an ETA on fixing the problem as I am sure others are having the same error happening?"
I would love to know if any of you out there are having the same problem with this crack troubleshooting team and this error witht he Fox site. Maybe they should dock Bill O'Rielly a couple of bucks and spend that money on some US support staff. What do you think?
