MLS Season 13 (annotations)
Mar 25, 2008 | 7:42AM | report this
Some of you have asked where you can read Bill Pennington's illuminating article on college scholarships, and I'm happy to provide a link to his long, well-researched piece from about two weeks ago in the Times. Others have asked for a link to T.J. Simers' scathing look at Mr. Beckham, who unwisely blew off a major columnist in his market.

Later on this week, look for capsule previews for each MLS team, and this weekend a couple of dispatches (both here and on the front page) from opening day kickoff  in MLS.

And, who do you think the best American player abroad this year is? Could it be... Andy Dorman? St. Mirren's newest pickup is scoring goals (including a heartbreaker against my beloved Arabs) and while overshadowed by the EPL boys down south, may prove to be the best (American) pickup during the January window.

The best American player abroad or the best pickup during the transfer window?

If you're looking for the best American player abroad, I think you might want to look south a bit at another American midfielder scoring tons of goals...

Tidings is right. Two words: Michael Bradley. Not enough a debate. Dorman's not even an American.

Although he might not have shown his worth this year, I still think Clint Dempsey is the best American playing abroad.

Uh Dorman's said he's Welsh, would like to play for the US team, but is actually eligible only for England.

Obviously, Trecker was more than happy to say that the best American player abroad is actually a Brit, but, even accepting the "Dorman is an American" conceit, it's just stupid. Bradley's been on fire. Dempsey? Well, he's probably the "best" player over there (and he played like it for the first half of the season), but in 2008? It's got to be Michael Bradley.

How about the American playing in the Mexican league - San somethinng, I believe. He plays midfield. Maybe Hugo Sandick should have called upon to save his job....pieceofshit####kenmexic

I said "this year," not "this season." And Dorman is eligible, should he wish to, to play for the USA. (He ain't going to play for Wales or England.)

Bradley's been superb. 19 goals, off the top of my head, is nothing to sneeze at.

But Dorman's been the best transfer of the year IMHO... and my opinion is what you come here for. Certainly a performance out of left field.
