A slap on the wrist for CONCACAF's Jack Warner
Dec 06, 2006 | 7:34AM | report this

From the official FIFA release:

In relation to the allegations made against vice-president Jack A. Warner and the Simpaul Travel company with regard to World Cup ticketing, the FIFA Executive Committee followed the recommendation of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee chaired by Marcel Mathier (Switzerland) and closed the file. The recommendation reads as follows:

The Executive Committee expresses disapproval of vice-president Jack A. Warner’s conduct and reminds him to exercise the requisite level of care in ticketing matters in the future and to strictly abide by all directives.
Jack A. Warner should, in particular, ensure that his son, Daryan Warner, does not abuse the position held by his father.

UPDATED: Anyone reading this in the UK might wish to tune into Panorama on Dec 10, to watch Andrew Jennings attempt to confront Mr. Warner about this. Everyone anywhere else...well, it would not be proper of me to suggest a copyright-defeating thing thing like Bit Torrent.

We further remind Mr. Warner that it is a maxim of international customary law, not to mention only good manners, to replace the lid on the cookie jar once the goods have been removed.

Future failure to comply with this Committee's findings and recommendations carries the future risk of being asked nicely again to comply.

So say we all.

Your allocation of Dom Perignon is hereby reduced by fifty percent and any subsequent travel must be in coach.

FIFA has been, and always will be, an old boy's club. This is not the first case of high level official impropriety and it sure as hell won't be the last. In Zurich one's moral rectitude is never in question. The only thing that matters is ability to bring in the votes. I can just imagine the private conversations over there: "Now, Jack, you said that you'd be discreet about enriching your family. Didn't you promise that the press wouldn't find out?"

What's sad about all this is we're talking about one of the poorest regions in FIFA, which is always bleating about how it cannot afford certain things. Might we suggest cutting out the 5-star hotels and the first-class travel?

Great work on the Klinsmann scoop!

Hopefully those reports coming out about how he has turned down the offer are completely erroneous, else that would render your own article completely erroneous.

I hope, however, you're right.
