Not So Bad For The Low Budget Fish
Dec 15, 2007 | 1:48PM | report this

Sure it was a GM nightmare to have to unload like this. However, Willis would be gone soon too so why not get the most for the inevitable gloomy future. Rather than another (Johan Santana like pickle)
In return you Marlins got the dud Maybin (who may work out in time) and (two pitch) Miller, who with work could be like Randy Johnson. In a smaller market and with time these two prospects may work out for you Marlins fans, just keep them and add to it later (like the Nations are doing).

Now that you are out of that financial jam, work with these players and hold on to them once they mature. (key words...HOLD ON)! To at least give the fans a few jerseys to buy perhaps, and young talent to watch.

And marlins Fans (if there are any)! Relax a bit!

Dont sleep on switch hitter Mike Rabelo he could start for you. Rabelo who was likely to be in Erie or AAA Toledo last year came up big for the Detroit Tigers last season.  He will mature higher than "just a backup"!   He like Miller and Maybin just needs regular reps.

Where you really made out was Burke Badenhop and Dallas Trahern. But have consistanting showed inprovement and could challenge for a starting role near the end of the rotation.

Badenhop shined in both years at Low A and High A ball, and turned it up even higher when he was promoted to AA Erie at the end of the season.  He makes up for his lack of amazing velocity with Kenny Rogers like pin point command.  After shinning in the Arizona fall league, Badenhop showed he is the REAL DEAL.  While Dallas Trahern begin the year on a tear in AA Erie, he continued to impress scouts with his sinker and command.

I was upset to see them leave the Tiger Organization. Burke Badenhop and Dallas Trahern and Mike Rabelo will open some eyes!

While I am sure none of you wanted to see Cabrera and Willis leave....
Understand this crop of prospects was by far the best in baseball, and an offer to great for a low budget team to refuse.
