COUNTDOWN to GRAPEFRUIT
Jan 12, 2008 | 9:38PM | report this
Florida Grapefruit LeagueCOUNTDOWN                        to                         GRAPEFRUIT

Believe it or not in just over one month pitchers and catchers will report to Spring Training.  Like many other northern transplants this time of year is a dream come true for me.  February and March provide even enough baseball to keep fanatics like myself happy.  Eightteen of the best teams in Major League Baseball showcasing their current and future stars.  Spring Training baseball also offers one of the purest, most accessible fan experiences.  Easy access for autographs and venues so small that no seats offer a poor view.  If you are reading this, and are not a Floridian I strongly advise you to pack some shorts, your jersey and some sun screen and get down to the Sunshine State.

As shown above "Berm" Seating although the cheapest, has its many advantages for the "Autograph Hound" in you!

The best part about Spring Training is the cost.  Unlike Regular Season games, Spring Traing tickets are as low as $5 for general admision "berm" seating.  As for the most expensive seat in the house, most teams charge in the low $20 range for Field Box Seats.  There honestly is really not a bad seat in the parks as well.  Most players even seem to go out of there way to sign autographs and take pictures before and after games.  So if it is autographs, interleague play, or just a great get away your looking for; Sunny Florida is the place to get the 2008 season underway.

Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven

Chain O' Lakes Park: Home of the Cleveland Indians

On a final note Florida will sadly be losing two teams to the Cactus League in Arizona next season.  The Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers will play their Final games here this Spring.  Both teams have called Florida there home for several years.  I strongly urdge anyone who has yet to take in a game at either of these parks to do so before they leave.  Although old both parks tend to give most visitors that Park of the Old Days feeling.  Both teams will be greatly missed next year.
