Mid-Week Racing: Specials All-Week
Jul 16, 2008 | 5:03PM | report this

After my weekend "off" a few weeks ago, I have decided to make up for lost time by adding a few mid-week events to my schedule.

Tomorrow Night, Knoxville Raceway hosts the IMCA modifieds and Sport Modifieds in the annual Harris Clash.  Drivers from California, Colorado, North Carolina, Minnesota, Iowa and other states travel here to compete for the title of Harris Clash winner.

I usually spend Friday night at the Marshalltown Speedway, and this week will be no different.  Except that many of the competitors from the Clash are expected to travel to "The Show Down at Mo-Town" in hopes of capturing the Budweiser sponsored purse (allegedly it carries more than just a designer name).

Saturday night is typically spent at Boone - and for some reason this week features chuckwagon races as well as the usual race card.

If I'm not tired of the racing by Sunday, I can always go to Iowa Speedway and throw cans at (I mean cheer for)  Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth, who will be driving a late models on the new track. Although I'm not sure I'll be able to go - it's still an option.

Have a great time Iowa! If you can keep this up it will definitely make up for those rare events when you miss a weekend at the track.

You throwing cans...right...more like hacking into their computers for the dirt!

Oh and thanks for the comment over at the MLR.com site!!

It's always good to hear about the local tracks goings on. Think there is more exciting races going on at those track than the Big Bad NASCAR races.

Hotfoot - I actually enjoy these events more than the Nascar events. Don't get me wrong, I love going to Cup races, but dealing with parking, crowds etc. is craziness! It's like going to the circus - good a couple times a year, but going to the local park once a week is a great time too (and less work!).

KLV- Yes it will make up for those "off" weekends. Plus my weekend at Indy is likely to include several dirt tracks too!

Photo - I think the trick is to get involved some way. Here I can join a fantasy league for the local track or volunteer at the sprint car museum. Either way, I have some contact with other race fans besides going to the race. But, you can make a lot of friends just sitting and talking during the line-ups too.

Noah - I may do that. It depends on how the weekend is going. Iowa Speedway may not happen, but if it does, I'll definitely look you up.

Gosh Iowa, you are one busy person! Are you sure you dont have motor oil running through your veins? Just kidding. Enjoy the races.
