After my weekend "off" a few weeks ago, I have decided to make up for lost time by adding a few mid-week events to my schedule.
Tomorrow Night, Knoxville Raceway hosts the IMCA modifieds and Sport Modifieds in the annual Harris Clash. Drivers from California, Colorado, North Carolina, Minnesota, Iowa and other states travel here to compete for the title of Harris Clash winner.
I usually spend Friday night at the Marshalltown Speedway, and this week will be no different. Except that many of the competitors from the Clash are expected to travel to "The Show Down at Mo-Town" in hopes of capturing the Budweiser sponsored purse (allegedly it carries more than just a designer name).
Saturday night is typically spent at Boone - and for some reason this week features chuckwagon races as well as the usual race card.
If I'm not tired of the racing by Sunday, I can always go to Iowa Speedway and throw cans at (I mean cheer for) Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth, who will be driving a late models on the new track. Although I'm not sure I'll be able to go - it's still an option.
Hey Iowagirl. If you make it to IowaSpeedway come down and look me and Noah up. You know were we will be. Noah will have his flags waving right near the flagstand. Please make it a point to see us. Noahspop..A.K.A. Billy...
Hotfoot - I actually enjoy these events more than the Nascar events. Don't get me wrong, I love going to Cup races, but dealing with parking, crowds etc. is craziness! It's like going to the circus - good a couple times a year, but going to the local park once a week is a great time too (and less work!).
Photo - I think the trick is to get involved some way. Here I can join a fantasy league for the local track or volunteer at the sprint car museum. Either way, I have some contact with other race fans besides going to the race. But, you can make a lot of friends just sitting and talking during the line-ups too.
