Tourney Talk

Well its that time of year again when all of the 3 week college hoop fans come out of the wood-work with their brackets and upset predictions. They come making picks like they actually watched more than three games this season, when you and I know that the only reason they have any concern about the tournament is because Bob in accounting is having an office pool. We know that your average Joe would'nt even care about "March Madness" if it did'nt have gambling implications. Don't get me wrong I love all the hype and excitement of the tourney but I dont like the people who wait untill the Saturday before selection day to start watching.

But as far as my personal picks go, I have the University of Kansas Jayhawks going the distance. My "upset" is Michigan St. beating Memphis in the sweet sixteen. Thats the only real surprise on my bracket. Iam not gonna dwell on my picks though because chances are I am gonna be dead wrong.

Something I am not looking forward to is the build up to Kansas St. VS. USC because of all the talk about Michael Beasley against O.J. Mayo. And I give all the credit in the world to the both of them, they are awesome players. but I dont like that ESPN and other media outlets acting like there arent eight other players on the floor, come on share the love or better yet just shut up.

D-Hall to Oakland?

I am a Virginian therefore I am a hokie fan because of location and I was a big Deangelo Hall fan when when he was at VT. So I continued to follow him when he joined Atlanta. I got excited when I heard he was on the trade market and my Redskins were possible suitors. But no D-Hall is on his way to the silver and black. C'mon Deangelo if you wanted to be on a losing team you should have just stayed in Atlanta, if you wanted cash Dan "the man" Snyder would have paided you to join the skins. Bad call for D-Hall going to Oakland, this will turn out like the Randy Moss saga did. In three years he will go to a new team and be excellent again and everyone will wonder where he went for three years. Lets face it Oakland is a black hole, no good can come to any player that goes there.

The Rocket's Red Glare

Well the Houston Rockets miracle streak is over. But dont despair, thats right lift your chin up in pride Houston you did something that when Yao Ming went down no one would have ever thought you could come close to doing. Congrats Houston!

Iceman Salutes...

New York Yankees- For visiting the Virginia Tech campus and memorial on Tuesday and playing a exhibition game with the hokies.

Tiger Woods- The New England Patriots of Pro Golf.

Joe Gibbs Racing- Great season so far, just need to get Denny Hamlin rolling.

Bob Knight- For not wearing a suit on ESPN, stick it to them Bob!

John McCain- He actually has a bracket challenge on his campaign website.

Thanks for reading!

Tuesday Morning Rant

Well fellow sports fans lets get ranting.
Theres no Yao in Team.

So if you haven't noticed the rockets are on a little bit of a hot streak of late. But just a few short weeks ago wasn't the entire nation saying they were done and that their little 7 or 8 game win streak was finished when they lost Yao. But once again a team steps up adversity and proves the media wrong big time. I am very pleased to see the rockets still on their win streak even without Yao.

The Little School That Could

Everyone remembers when it happened, "The George Mason Patriots have shocked the world and are going to the Final Four!" The team that put mid major schools on the map, is going back to the big dance. Are they gonna shock the world again, I cant say but I can guarantee you this that every sports media outlet you see will be blowing them up to be as big as NC and Memphis. I know they did it once and anything can happen but please don't give them more credit than they deserve. We all know they come out of an extremely weak conference. Until 2 years ago no one out side of northern Virginia had heard of them, so they obviously haven't  been consistent throughout the years. But please don't get me these teams are the reason we watch to see a no name school from the middle of nowhere beat a top 10 ranked team, these teams are the reason its called March Madness.

The NFL's Sell Out Little Sister

So the other night I turn my T.V. on and I see that the Arena Football League is back and I think to myself "how do this keep getting aired on national television?" I mean it is completely ridiculous. They have advertisements on their darn jerseys, no real players (by no real players I mean players who would stay in AFL if they were offered to join an NFL practice squad), and outrageously cheesy commentators who call the game like its the super bowl. And whats sad is they even acknowledge that their league is bad by making constant comparisons to the NFL such as rules and player positions. But it just kills me to see the jersey, the one thing that I thought was sacred and would never be tainted by ads, has been a big "Aarons" or "Meineke" patch right there on the jersey. Whats next, "todays game ball is brought to you by Pepsi?" I seriously wish that the NFL would make a D-League or Minor League and keep it in the U.S. so we could see the practice squad guys actually play in a real game setting instead of just in pre-season.

Thanks for reading, please check out some of my other blogs. Peace
