Race fans, welcome to New Hampshire International Speedway.
Mike Helton says he loved Tony Stewart's interview after the race last weekend and encourages free speech for all the drivers.
The media heads asking absurd questions like, when will Reed Sorenson find victory lane again? He's been on a tear lately.
Expectant father Casey Mears hits his (for now) teammate Jeff Gordon up for some advice on being a father. Well, except for the foul language part.
NASCAR decides to actually change the race schedule to 32 races per year. Revised schedule includes a Daytona and Talladega stint back to back to allow the crew chiefs not to work as hard on set ups. Gets rid of the bogus "move over" flag. And finally, they issue a memo stating that starting with the 2009 season, all teams must have one female driver competing in every race.
Marcos Ambrose, running for his second Cup race, blows the field away and wins on an oval.
Kevin Harvick, Max Papis, Elliot Sadler, David Reutimann, and others will be issued their brakes packages from NASCAR for the next road race at Watkins Glen.
Even though this is the only major racing venue in all of New England, there are large spots of empty seats during the race. Is it the economy, or the racing? Inquiring minds want to know.
Hanahan will be selling a new DVD with all of Kyle Busch's victories and burnout celebrations this year. Make sure to pre-order for this exciting compilation. This DVD will include Hanahan's own personal commentary with a 10 minute auto-replay of Rowdy's perfect number 8 burnout at Infineon. Hurry while supplies last!
I have one pre-order already. Dwindy gets a free copy. Make sure you specify if you want the R rated commentary, or the PG rating. Hurry and pre-order folks. By the end of the season, Kyle will have so many victories that this will be a four disc box set. Pefect Christmas gift for that relative you can't stand.
Kelly - let's hope so, and no replays of the Shaq rap either please.
Photo - glad you liked.
Han-man - I will be in your area this weekend for family reunion. Thinking about going to the truck race. If you're there, I'll just pick up my disc then, ok? LOL
The Casey Mears/Jeff Gordon comment reminds me of a family I used to babysit for. Mom was always trlling dad to watch his language in front of their daughter. Dad was insistent that she was too young to pick up on the cursing. Mom says the look on dad's face was priceless the day he and his 3 year old little angel were watching a Lakers game together. A Lakers player missed an easy shot, and she stood up, stomped her foot, and yelled at the television "I can't believe he missed the #### shot!."
I want a copy of the DVD..Ahh.. Another non sell out. With $4 plus a gallon, I know it changed the races I am going to this year. If I cant make it in a tank. I aint going. Its to expensive. And then if you need a Hotel, you wont find one with in 50 spuare miles for under $100 bucks a night. Yea the econy is playing with alot of summer plans. Glad we have Milwaukee, Chicago, Knoxville Iowa all close.
Noah ~ tis true my friend. I threw that point in there because I heard people talking about it on the radio, saying that it is the racing not the economy. I just don't agree. My gosh, my poor SUV gets 15 to 16 mpg *if* I baby it. Come on people!
Hotfoot,
Just for the record, calling it a bogus "move over flag" just reinforces the incorrect belief that it is called that. In every drivers meeting I have ever attended (hundreds), drivers are told that if they see that flag displayed it means they are about to be lapped and should MAINTAIN THEIR LINE. They are never told to move over, slow down, pull out of the racing line, etc. Hope that sets the record straight but most fans will never understand that it is just a notification/information flag that requires nothing more of a driver than doing what he should be doing anyway - running a racing line. It is up to the faster car to pass him or her cleanly.
Hoosier ~ if the flag requires the driver to do "nothing more ... than what he should be doing anyway ... it is up to the faster car to pass him or her cleanly," then it is a pretty useless and bogus flag.
Lori,
It is not a "move over flag" but it is not bogus because it does provide information that is useful. For example, if two cars that are both a lap or more down are racing each other and they see that flag, it tells them they are about to be overtaken. They may then choose to continue to race each other hard side by side OR as a courtesy get into single file and allow the guy trying to overtake them a chance to do so. Therefore, it is what B&R said, a notification or information flag but not a "move over flag" - comprehende?
Another example where it could come into play is if someone is purposely blocking a car trying to put him a lap down. Then when the information flag comes out it is telling him to run one racing line OR possibly be black flagged. Again, doesn't require the driver to slow down or pull outside the race line or "move over" but simply informs him he is about to be passed and should run ONE racing line and not be blocking. Really not that hard to understand but most fans still think it means move over when it doesn't.

Lori good stuff...although I would like to see Marcos Ambrose in victory lane one day.
As for the empty seats...I think there would be lower attendance across the board at all the tracks. I know that we saw more empty spaces in the grandstands this year at Michigan than ever before.
Kinda bites when you have to hand the gas station attendant a $100 bill to fill your tank on your conversion van, and it isnt even on empty!
HR13 are you dakwarrior18 now? Geez, we need to get a list from you on your ID's.
I'm fine if the purpose of the flag is for "information". But in that case it only need be shown once for the car posted. IF it's purpose is to indicate blocking - then NASCAR needs a new flag to differentiate. Because that is too intreptative. They have direct radio transmission available from spotters and the NASCAR officials themselves. Point blank is that no one in NASCAR, NO ONE has ever been black-flagged for blocking or not moving over. That is why that purpose is useless. F1 and IRL have set precedent, although infrequently, to black-flag those that have not heeded this flag.
We need Dave-in-Indy, jbroomy or Tez to clarify the official F1 policy, but that is my understanding.
Gerrel ~ thanks. Trust me, if Marcos gets the win this weekend, in only his 2nd Cup race, I'll be cheering for him, and loudly. It would just be funny, no?, to win on an oval before a road course race coming from his background. But would be great nonetheless!
Moseby ~ I'll go check out your blog, of course I'm interested :)
F1 is, I believe (and Hoosier, Dave, jbroomy or bc525 might be able to confirm it), you get a penalty (pit drive-through I think) if you pass three waved blue flags and don't let the car behind past you.
and I agree with Lori; if Marcos wins, you'll certainly hear my cheering :P
TYWHDNHR- Tony says with a smile, "Hey Kristen, come here...let me sign all the autographs you need for all my fans over at FOXSports.com and make sure you give this big smooch (plants a big ole wet one on my cheek) to my future wife, Lori"
also i am sure you wont hear this??? (ooops showing my age))) hey daddys car??????????? explanation ???? crusin !!!!!!!! or from where im from draggin the gut!!!!!!

The reason Tony doesn't do autographs is he is too busy changing diapers on Lunatic,Fringe,Schrub, and Denny. Lori has ruined the man. She's out Hotfootin around and he's stuck with the young uns. Poor fella.
