Stewart Blasts Goodyear Again After Bristol Race
Mar 17, 2008 | 6:00AM | report this

This intrepid reporter has more breaking news regarding the riff between Tony Stewart and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.  It was not long after the TV crews had packed up their equipment to depart Bristol that I stumbled across another heated exchange between Smoke and a representative of Goodyear in the infield at the track.  Stewart, who looked like a sure winner in the closing laps, accused Goodyear of purposely using a special compound on the right front tire of Brian Vickers car on his last pit stop that would guarantee it would fail in the closing laps of the race.

Due to that failure, a caution was thrown allowing smart crew chiefs to bring their cars onto pit road for four fresh Goodyears with just a handful of laps to go.  Stewart was quoted as saying the right front which went on Vickers car during the previous pit stop was the worst tire anyone in Cup racing had ever driven on during his entire professional career.  Vickers refused to comment other than to say that Stewart is normally not into conspiracy theories so he hopes there will be a thorough investigation as to whether Goodyear did, in fact, sabotage his race team to hurt Tony's chances to finally win another race.   When the race went green again, Stewart fell from first to fourteenth in a matter of seconds when, according to his own words,  he apparently didn't allow Kevin Harvick enough room to pass even though he knew Harvick had four fresh Goodyears.  Long-time Stewart observers are hinting that it is a good thing Cup drivers don't have to race next weekend since he seems on the verge of a complete breakdown.

Smoke for Brains didn't give us denigrators as much to work with as he normally does (so far anyway) but I didn't want to disappoint Lori and YM and others who would be expecting some kind of sarcastic blog from me. I promise by the end of the Martinsville race to have even better inside dirt on racing's biggest crybaby and loudest mouth.

Hr13 funny, Again agree to disagree.. You know i listened to several interviews after the race and i can say for once Smoke handeled himself well and really didn't show any emotion.. With that said you know he was probably pissed but he wasnt the usual Smoke...Kinda quiet... He did have the car to beat should have taken at least 2 goodyears when Vickers caution came out... But you have to put the faith in your crew chief... At least at the end of the race Harvick stated it was his fault that he just lost it and would work it out with Tony.. Nice posting even if we disagree

Just looking at the race and all the tire-garbage on the track from the 'digger-cam' made me wonder what the heck BADYEAR was doing this week. Was it their enmgineering knee-jerk reaction to the hard tire issues from the last few weeks that made then come with a tire-compound that was somewhere between chocolate cake and black styrofoam ???

As Fox Sports.com's resident conspiracy theorist I'm usually open to just about anything, but, in this case I think Smoke is Blowing Smoke !!

He's pissed that Harvick sent him in the wall .. period.

End of Theory. 8^)

JW,
There's no doubt in my mind he will shut me up plenty by winning races this year so I can't skip an opportunity to ride him even if we all know it was Kevin's fault he finished 14th instead of in the top five. He clearly wasn't going to win after the round of pit stops for the Vickers crash but he would definitely have stayed in the top five without his buddy Happy's help. In my defense, I did post a blog with ONLY positvie stuff (including on Tony) on my ranking of the top twenty most talented drivers in Cup racing.

When he gets his wins this season, I will offer my sincere props to him. I know he's one of the best and he certainly keeps me entertained.

RI,
I actually think Goodyear brought a decent tire to Bristol. There seemed to be lots of lap after lap battles with two cars running virtually side-by-side and guys were able to pass frequently without using the old bump and run move. Kudos to Goodyear for their part in a great and immensely entertaining race.

ts20,
Thanks again for stopping by to comment. Your guy is going to have plenty of better finishes this year but man did it look like he had it covered. I guess his radio melted from his comments after Harvick hit him but at least he was back under control by the time the TV folks pushed microphones in his face. I give him lots of credit for that.

Too many conspiracies not enough facts! It's always easy to blame someone, anyone. It was the one armed man, with the candle stick, in the kitchen. Enough already JUST RACE!

HR13, my Marxist friend, your free passes to the Brickyard courtesy of Goodyear should be arriving at your house soon. I'm jealous!

CR,
"Marxist friend"??? You must have me confused with Hillary (The Big B) Clinton, or Barack Hussein Obama or one of their supporters - from each according to his ability to each according to his needs - i.e. tax the hell out of people who can actually produce value and earn their money and give it to the lazy, the unproductive, and the losers in this country. Ain't America great?

By the way, been to the Brickyard and wouldn't go back even with free tickets since TV is better way to watch it - can you get Goodyear to just give me cash - I bought another race car yesterday and have to run Hoosiers - sanctioning body rule - so I need some new tires. Thanks.

HR13, Well maybe if you had a seat in the Blimp for the race? Would that satisfy? I know Goodyear would like to compensate you in some way... Not sure they'd give you cash to go out and buy the competition's product though!

Too bad, but America is on the fast track to becoming irrelavant on the world stage. Of course, those people you mentioned and others are doing everything they can to be key players in that new world order.
