Barkley's Gambling Debt
May 15, 2008 | 11:35AM | report this

Via the Las Vegas Sun

Wynn Las Vegas filed a lawsuit in District Court on Wednesday to force former National Basketball Association star Charles Barkley to pay back $400,000 in gambling markers the casino alleges it extended him last year.

The casino also persuaded the Clark County district attorney’s bad check unit to open a criminal investigation. The unit has authority under state law to investigate gambling debts in the same manner as bad checks.

District Attorney David Roger said Barkley will be notified of the investigation and given an opportunity to make restitution to Wynn Las Vegas to avoid being charged with a felony. [Read]

UPDATE: Barkley will repay $400K in Vegas debt

All that money and these athletes still refuse to pay their debts. Damn I could see if they was just some normal guy like myself who has other priorities but then again I wouldn't be gambling anyway because of those priorities.

I bet he gets away with not paying. Does anyone have odds set up? I'll take that action.

Come on folks. Anyone can tell that's Crown Royal and 7-Up in Barkley's glass. I'd put a grand on it. In fact, I'm so sure I'll probably even give you odds. Any takers can respond at:

The guys of Barkley's ilk never cease to amaze. Over the course of his career he's earnt in excess of $70m and is said to be worth at least $30m. So what's $400,000 gonna do to him ? Don't these guys learn anything 'bout money ?
God knows if it were 'back in the day' he'd have already been dead and buried by now ! But that's why we tend to love the dumb schm*uck as he just doesn't give a rat's #### what he does or say at any given time.

Of course Sir Charles will get a pass for his self destructive behavior and O.J. Mayo will be sent to prison by people like Nique Dodson. What a country.

You mean that glass isn't his urine sample?

Barkley continues to live down to the words, "I am not a role model," doesn't he?

On March 6, 2007, Barkley told ESPN that he has lost about $10 million gambling. I guess we can make that $10.4 million now.

To me, Barkley has always been the clothes-less emperor of basketball analysis. He speaks far too much and says much to little. He can be very funny, and I like him for those moments, but Barkley is rarely insightful.

Can you imagine him taking that noodle of his (and that undisciplined mouth) into a coaching gig? Even Isaiah Thomas would know better than to hire Barkley for a serious job.

Sometimes when I watch Barkley on TNT, I think his career may well come to a tragic end. He just has such poor judgment all the time in what he says and does.

Barkley embarrassed the Dream Team overseas. His bar antics are notorious. Barkley was a republican when that is popular, then he's a democrat when that is popular.

It's amazing the man has any credibility in any circle, but it just goes to show how far charisma can take a person.

Get help, Charles.

This isn't just a matter of being able to afford gambling. Just think of the good that $10.4 million could be doing for the causes you believe in.

The mercury? Supposed to hit about 92 today, and 100 by Sunday. Is that what you mean?
