Marbury Never Ceases To Amaze
May 14, 2008 | 9:44AM | report this

Stephon Marbury was asked yesterday to comment on Mike D'Antoni's arrival in New York and how he has been preparing for next season.

A few highlights:

Apparently, Steph has been "running in the mountains in LA."

He also plans to bring that "ooh" and that "awe" back like LeBron did the other night when he dunked over Kevin Garnett.

Listen for yourself: Stephon Marbury is as entertaining as ever.

And let's not forget his equally embarrassing reaction upon hearing the Knicks had traded for Zach Randolph.

NICE!!

i think steph musta had that particular pair personalized, because i never saw that shoe at steve and barry's.

remember when KOBE!! was on steph's talk show?

that ish was funny.

there was so much psychosis going on in that soundstage you could cut it with a knife, and serve it with a ladle.

it was almost like watching a scene from ken kesey's 'one flew over the coo-coo's nest'

I picked the Celtics and Lakers to win their respective series but with Detroit putting Orlando out of their misery last night, there's a good chance I could go 0-4 in the Conference Semifinals.

Utah, New Orleans, and Cleveland are playing very good basketball right now.

It's amazing how important homecourt has turned out to be in these playoffs.

I don't know if either Boston or Los Angeles (most people's picks to advance to the Finals) could win a potential elimination game away from home right now.

Tonight's games are for all intents and purposes, game 7's.

Truce gentlemen....Truce. I heart Hoff and Rooster, lol. I went hiking in the mountains and found my inner peace like Stephon, and some good pot too. That was all sarcastic except the truce part...Hoff you were right about Phoenix my friend, credit where credit is due, though you are wrong about a lot too.

Marbury will never again be an All-Star and it is because he thinks that he IS one. He is his own biggest fan and nobody wants to share a locker room with a guy like that. It's a shame cuz he is talented.

This just in D'Antoni'll be taking a leaf from his favorite film 'The Natural' and bringing in Dr Phil to address the players on their fears and doubts. He'll also be asking McGraw to teach 'em the rudimentaries as what the meaning sharing and caring is all about.

mcgrawphil

You can do it guys I've got faith in you!

What else could I have done ? Donnie Walsh Sr VP for The Knicks organization.

How many of you guys know your left hand from your right hand ? That's what I thought. Let's start over the round thing that you run up and down the court with is called a basketball.

There was a time when Marbury believed that he was the best PG in the league. And then it struck him that he had to play with a team to live up to that lofty statement. Something that he's never been able to achieve anywhere that he's been !

I think D'Antoni and Walsh will get things turned around in NYC.

It's not as if it will take a huge improvement to make the playoffs in the East.

The Knicks were only 14 games back of 8th seeded Atlanta, compared to 27 games back of 8th seeded Denver.

The only place to go is up...I hope.

Hoff,
Marburied is a true horses #### if I ever seen one, actualy I have just not up close them damn animals like to kick to much. Either way he'll be crying and faking injuries when he realizes that even D'Antoni's simple run the court play no defense scheme is to much for him to grasp.

Geez Hoffman, now you're commenting on my blog in your blog.

What a multitasker!

Of course, we're both just being consistent with our positions wrt the Spurs. Historically, the team winning game 5 and having homecourt has won >73%, so I'd say I like my prediction at this point. What's funny to me is watching the "Who will win the series" polls on the Rosen pages, it's 3-1, but the winning team flip-flops every game. Expect that to continue when the Spurs force game 7.

This year, I think it would be silly to pick a road win for anyone, so I'm taking the Celts and Lakers. I'm thinking the Cavs have a slightly higher chance of an upset than the Jazz, though.

Are you in agreement?

Steph's a wacky dude.

Everyone's primed for LeBron to go off. Except me. The Cavs are feeling good about themselves right now and I don't know why. Their role players haven't done squat away from the Q, and they easily could have lost game 4 in spite of Boston playing terrible. Once again the Cavs didn't take advantage of opportunities. If they want to win, they are going to have to do that tonight - i just don't see it.

I like Utah over the Lakers tonight.

I think D Will is going to go off. Kobe won't get the calls tonight either.

Let's see Hoff, for one, you said Phoenix would miss the playoffs if you wanna get technical so neither of us was really correct in our predictions. You are very likely to be wrong about each of the conference semifinals predictions. I was right in picking Golden State to be out, Atlanta to be in, and the Spurs to lose in the second round. You are just generally wrong in thinking you are God's gift to blogging, but I love ya for it anyway.

Roosta, I love ya too, dont kill yourself, you won, you got under my skin. I learned a valuable lesson, I got a teflon skin transplant impenetrable by anyone except Utahns. You keep doin' what you're doin' the world needs ####s like us, where else would the #### come from? We'd all spontaneously combust!

gambitxxx - it really is sad because the guy is extremely talented. The only way I can see him contributing in New York is if he finally agrees to play shooting guard.

nba is the worst - we're in agreement with Cleveland having a greater chance at an upset then Utah does.

It's not looking good for San Antonio but there probably the only team that I wouldn't count out even if they were down 0-3.

I think we're in for a MONSTER game from LeBron tonight. I don't think Boston will win if their lead is less than 10 going into the 4th quarter.

That dunk in game 4 was precisely what James needed to get his confidence back in this series.

If it's close in crunch time, I expect him to take over.

Yep, I said the Suns would miss the playoffs. I was wrong.

I predicted the Heat would miss the playoffs last year too.

Both teams made those predictions look pretty foolish with their play.

At least the Suns won a game.

As for me "thinking I'm God's gift to blogging," that couldn't be further from the truth.

The Knicks can only go up from here.

With Donnie Walsh calling the shots and D'Anonti on the sidelines, I don't think that will be a problem.

It's not as if he will come in with championship expectations like he had in Phoenix.

Hoff, it will have to be a major roster turnover and D'Antoni will have to hire a defensive assistant and he has yet to prove that he can. I would say they can only get better then again, there is always the possibility of equalling Memphis and Miami.

One way they could accomplish something like that is if they were open to taking back some longer term contracts.

But I don't think Donnie Walsh would be open to that since his #1 priority has to be getting under the cap for the 2010 free agent class (LeBron James, Dwyane Wade).

I think they're best options are to play him at shooting guard, maybe even as their 6th man or to buy him out.

With Dolan's deep pockets, I suppose that's a possibility as well.

I think D'Antoni got a bad rap for Phoenix's defense. The Suns just didn't have defensive minded players.

Nash is a defensive liability. So was Shaq.

A coach can only work with the talent that's given to him.

I don't know if New York has enough fastbreak players to run his system that he had in Phoenix but I wouldn't put it past him to adjust his philosophy.

People had the same questions about Pat Riley when he left the 'Showtime' Lakers to coach in New York but Riles did pretty well in the Big Apple.

Marbury? Is he still in the NBA? Where's he been the past few years.

"Is it the shoes?"

That locked up payroll will cripple NY for a couple years. Their only chance is trading expiring contracts for six packs of Pepsi.

Mike is getting paid, that's all. Their fans better understand a bit of futility will still exist before the clouds clear.

You know, as a lifelong Knicks fan, our team has been hard to #### for some time now. Lucky for me I DO enjoy watching Kobe play so the NBA season is not a total wash. But we are still under the Patrick Ewing curse. Ewing was unceremoniously dispatched from the Knicks before he retired and has never been invited b=to return to the team in any official capacity. We've sucked ever since. Marbury is the epitome of the running joke that is our once proud franchise. Being a Knicks is like dating Rosie O'Donnell you just wanna puke...all the time.

You said the only way is up for the franchise ? Not quite so fast have you actually taken a real look at their roster ? There's nothing to suggest that D'Antoni can really make a go of things. I sincerely doubt that they'll improve that much. I expect them to regress even further. It's not as if they've learnt how to play as a team.
At best they're the equal of the Bobcats and that's been a team that's been mired in mediocrity since it entered into the league in its present guise.
Sad to say but they've got their own problems now with Brown at the helm and MJ calling the shots.
Okafor probably can't wait to bolt from there when his contract is up.

Take a look at this excellent article about New York's salary cap situation:

At D'Antoni's debut, it's still all about Walsh -- and LeBron in 2010 or '11

The franchise has all of the resources in the world. They only needed someone capable of pulling the strings.

I ain't drinin' that NY Kool Aid yet . Not until they can prove to me that they can play as a team. They've not been able to do that under the tutelage of 'Zeke'. So why should I expect it to be any different under D'Antoni ? If you can explain that to me succinctly then you might be able to persuade me to change my mind.
Until then it's a none starter right off the bat.
