Ravens QB situation
Nov 14, 2007 | 1:56PM | report this
First and foremost ... I consider myself as a pretty knowledegable football nut. Lets get this started. Kyle Boller's career with the Ravens has been a somewhat bad start. He's been there four years and has not been given a fair shot. I said it. A fair shot. I love Direct TV. Get every game. I've watched 99% of Kyle's games he has played in. He has dealt with his offense that has had problem after problem. Players hurt or in jail or whatever, major players .. not lowly players either. He has not been surrounded by the complete talent the Ravens have assembled over the years. Yea .. you can say that for a lot of teams, but I've seen the circumstances that this guy has had to play through. The offense is set up to pound the ball .. the line does not pass block at all .. over the last four years they have not protected the QB. Look at the Patriots or the Colts .. what are they doing that their QB is not getting hit .. study those films and make it happen.  Yea ... the line needs to be overhauled ... the Ravens need to strengthen their offensive line in order to compete. Their play calling is so predictable that it is ridiculous... They need to roll their QB ... especially Boller .. out of the pocket .. start pounding the ball right away and tell the damn line that it is up to them to get the game started correctly. If the run gets established right off the start .. then play action is going to work .. and roll the damn QB out .. Boller can run .. he is an athlete. I've seen Boller this year reverting back to his first two years .. feet to choppy .. looks nervous... Boller's best games came in late Nov and the month of December the year before Mcnair showed up. He was coming out .. then the dumb #### sat him on the bench for a guy that can not hold the ball. Mcnair was a great QB ... don't get me wrong. But his time has come to step to the side and play the next roll .. to help his team win .. by helping the kid gain confidence and learn what the best things are to do in certain situations. Boller is a good QB  ... the play calling needs to be better .. the line needs to block better all around .. run and pass .. roll the QB out .. and the defense is awesome  .. as long as their stud cornerbacks are in .. the complete starting Defense that is.  I truly believe the Ravens can start going in the right direction and see what works with Kyle .. rolling him out .. injuries are going to happen ... but they can not leave the QB in the pocket when the line cannot give him time!

Sorry, but i dont buy it. As important as an offenive line is in football, a good quarterback could make a line look good, and the same is true vise versa. Boller hasnt been terrible and hasnt been given much of a shot, but when he is in there and plays poorly, dont blame the offensive line. Just last year, despite throwing the ball 32.8 times per game, good for thirteenth in the league, Ravens quarterbacks were sacked only seventeen times, good for second best in all of football.
This year, the Ravens are throwing the ball 37.8 times per game, this time good for third most in the lague, yet the line has only allowed seventeen sacks, which is right about league average. THey are in the middle of the pack despite throwing way more than they should be. The offensive line has been fine. The Ravens also have a few decent recievers and a decent runningback, who is way overrated. You can blame the play calling, the line and the supporting cast all you want, but eventually you have to take a long, hrd look at your signal caller. Maybe everyone else looks so pedestrian because the QB brings down their level of play. Maybe McGahee would be a lot better if defenses had to consider the Baltimore passing attack. Maybe Brian Billick's play calling is so bland because bland is the only thing Boller and McNair can deal with.

Hart: If you have seen the 99% of the games Kyle Boller has played, than you too can count how many times he has taken a snap and fallen directly on his a$%. His feet are happy, mine would be too if I had permanent spot at the Playboy Mansion, but he doesn't read defenses!!!!!!! He has the arm, no doubt, in fact, as stupid as this may sound, sometimes he under throws the ball too much. Boller is capeable of winning games. I believe that, but you are right when you say, we need to run the ball early and run the ball often. Put it on the big guys, isn't that what football is all about, contolling the line of scrimmage? Before we start winning, we need to go back to the basics. This team plays way out of control. Bottom line, when we unit as a TEAM, we win. When we show up like we have two weeks in a row against division foes, looking to get some of us, you will get embarressed. When your team gets embarressed two weeks in a row, basically in front of the whole country, time to take inventory. Ray is calling out someone ( I have no clue who ), when he talks about giving the ball up on offense, yielding great field position for the opponent. We suck on offense, mutiny on the bounty on defense, heck even our boy Matt Stover is ailing a bit. Maybe we should " tank " the season and hope we get a top 7 draft pick ( trade him for a No.1 quarterback and bring in a top flight " finisher " on the end next year). Hey it's working for the Celtics.

Add to that the fact we are getting very " old " in key positions on the field. Our top QB ( McNair ) our top WR ( Mason ) our top Tackle ( Ogden ) our top MLB ( Lewis ) our top CB? ( McCallister ) our top K ( Stover ) our top DE ( Pryce ). Nuff said, I'm now depressed more than ever.
GO ORIOLES!!!!!!!!!!

I have followed #9 from high school, college and now the NFL. It is time for him to step aside because it is clear without the support of a real team on offense he has no chance to be good. Look at Bret the Packers kept some true talent on offense to go with his knowledge of the qb position. Bret + talent = success
McNair + Ravens = take alot of family trips

Time to rebuild... Start with a new Coach and staff... Change the philosophy. Start building from the ground up. #1 Reinvigorate this defense by pumping youth into it. It's real simple, if the other team can't score you're in the game (and this has been the Raven's mantra). #2 Use two top draft picks per year on the O line for 3 years. #3 Go get a mobile QB. Look at Garcia on the Buccaneers, he's made a front five with a total NFL experience of 16 years(!) look like a great line. #4 Put speed on your team, offense and defense. #5 In all of the previous categories look for quality people. In three years this thing will turn around.

Say what you want about the NFL qbs, yet I say this.
The league has morphed into a group of haves, have nots and barely getting bys.
When a team rolls Vinny Testaverde out of the dinosaur museum, there's a shortage of quality signal callers out there.

Boller is 15-4 at home in his career. Yea .. sack numbers are low .. but the QB's are doing a good job of getting rid of the ball ... interceptions might be high too. I've seen games when the QB is playing a good defense and is getting no TIME!Three and out! Boller has not had the consistency with the team being healthy ... except late in the season of 2004 .. beating GB and others his rating was pretty high over the last six games of the season. Having all your weapons and being at full strength has been something that has eluded Boller in order for him to shine. I need Heap to be in the line-up .. I need the De La Salle kid playing ... Mason knows what to do ... Use McGahee as a runner and receiver .. find a way to get McGahee the ball one on one with a cornerback ... see him run right over him. Back to Boller .. you put him in a different offense .. one that is geared to pass , he will shine
