Well, we're waiting. We're still waiting for the Busch bashers to try and explain away Kyle Busch's win Sunday as luck, or dirty driving, or a fluke, or something. Instead all we hear are crickets chirping. Could this be the performance that finally opens everyone's eyes?
I'll be the first to admit that I never saw this one coming. Never expected the rowdy one to lay the wood to a road course. Come on now, how many of you did? How many of you had him on your fantasy team this week? Not me.On a day when the road race ringers stayed busy hitting each other and running off the road, Rowdy got busy. Rowdy got his race on. Rowdy stepped it up.
At a track where he had one top 10 in his three previous starts, most fans expected the points leader to play it safe. Instead he goes out and leads 78 of 112 laps. At a road course, no less. 112 laps. 11 turns per lap. Left hand and right hand turns, at that. No mistakes. Where was the reckless 'wild child' that the haters love to hate?
This performance was so dominating, on a track where he wasn't expected to contend at, that it served notice to everyone that Busch is the man to beat this year. Of course anything can happen in that contrived Chase for the Championship, but it appears that the other eleven drivers will be contending for second place.
Hanny,
The next blog posted after yours explains Kyle's dominance - gosh, how could you not figure it out as smart as you are about racing. See, Toyota is CHEATING - lmfao. You know Kyle's haters are going to say something other than giving him the kudos he has earned. He does have awesome talent but I'm not ready to concede the championship yet. HMS has three pretty talented drivers sitting in the top six in points and I'd put $1,000 up right now that one of them will win the championship before Kyle does. Any takers?

Ah yes Sweet Silence! So where are all the haters and whiners? Could it be that he ran a race that left them with nothing to complain about?
Kyle, Tony and a few others in the back made their pit stops just before a caution came out and viola, they were running in front. What no conspiracy theories they threw the caution to benefit them? Guess not after all it came out for a wreck. [My only complaint is Tony got spun and moved back from 2nd to a 10th place finish, but nothing to do with Rowdy] Shrub ran a clean error free race, had to endure late cautions and restarts and a GWC finish.
I'm not going to claim I saw the win coming, but Kyle did win the road course in Mexico so maybe it wasn't a fluke. Even Jeff Gordon had to give him his props. Kyle just ran consistent laps and hit his marks and stayed focused. Bet there is more than 1 team hoping that he goes back to running in all 3 series for the rest of the season. I don't think they want him to stay totally focused on the chase for the rest of the year.
And did you notice the cheers were louder than the boo's after the race. 5 wins can sure turn around public sentiment can't it.
HR/CR/BR...Had to go read that post. Yeah, outspending Jack is cheating.
If the points were done correctly, without the BS Chase, I might consider betting on Kyle. Of course, I would need some odds to make it worth the risk. Those three are better 'points racers' than Kyle is. He only knows one speed. WFO.
I didn't really rate him at all on road courses until he won in Mexico earlier this year....but even so, that was only the NW series so while I would have had him for a top 5, I wouldn't have picked Kyle for the win.
Hanny,
That was one of the best burnouts ever wasn't it.
I was also pleased that he got so many loud cheers but, it was in California after all. Let's see if he is cheered like that after a win at a south eastern track.
Tez...same here. There's something about winning at the Rod. Bros. track in Mexico that doesn't impress me much. Didn't Truex and Edwards win there? Haven't seen them do too much on the road courses at the Cup level.
That was a great performance, but if Tony wasn't spun out, he wins. He was picking people off like a Mexican in a tomato field. I still don't like Busch, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just don't see this kid having any longevity. Sure he's the guy to beat this year, but so was Big Bro once upon a time.
SR... I guess Smoke shouldn't have been back there behind Kyle. Maybe he wouldn't have been spun out then.
If Ruetimann could drive, the caution wouldn't have come out, and Tony wouldn't have been in the same area code as Kyle. Kyle had about a 12 second lead when that caution came out. That's a lot of tomatoes.
Right on Hanny, That figure 8 was awesome! Only 100 extra HP huh. Thought they were all cutting back on HP for fuel mileage?
Maybe those cheating toyos will spend a million next year in europe testing and be able to run the whole race on 1 pit stop! That would show the ole jack in the hat.
Hanny- Lots of boo's at intros for Kyle but afterwards a the stands were packed by Victory Lane of fans cheering him on. Those burnouts were way cool...
I would have never picked him on the road course, not that he is bad, but not as good as some of the others. He and others really benefited from that shake up in the order from the caution. Killed Edwards and others.
klv...the more wins...the more fans. Were you at the track during the Camping World race on Sat. when that car got upside down? Couple of big wrecks in that one.
It's why he isn't getting any commercial face time, for sure. How come he isn't one of the Gillette Young Guns? He is younger than every other driver they have. They need to reshoot that series with the Shrub, Joey Lagano, Brad Keselowski and maybe even Landon Cassil.
hanahan
I'd dare say that bashing Busch at this moment is almost as virtuous as the deflowering of a virgin. In doing so you're opening yourself for a great deal of warranted criticism.
The best thing to do is to just watch the kid just run rough shod over the more experienced guys in the Sprint Cup Series . At this moment he's making a number of 'em somewhat insignificant to say the least.
See my latest piece within this forum and let me know what you think as to the merits of the piece ? As and when you're ready I'll look forward to reading your comments. The piece in question is titled To Serve, But To Do So With Distinction And Pride !
RA6AN...I hope you got to see your boy. I didn't see him on TV all day.
Hanny & Mose. Didn't that show come on right after the old Tom Hanks show, Bosom Buddies? I seem to remember they were always in a bar. One of them always got left behind, as the other one picked up a different girl every week.
Hanny,
I did see my boy, but of course, I had camera issues whenever he was near. I did get his attention as he rode past on the truck on his way to his pit stall. Hopefully I'll have some time later to do a write-up of my day.
BTW, staying on the subject of Busch-bashing, I gotta go with Mose's philosophy -- they handed out the Ugly trophy. My friend came up with two of the best names I've heard for him: FerretFace and DorkFish. Apologies to ferrets and fish everywhere.
I loved when Jeff Gordon comes out and says that Busch isn't that good at road racing. I would have paid for Busch to just be standing there and clocked that pretty boy in the face.
Interesting. The boys Moseby suggested don't shave yet thus Gillette has not approached them.
Sa what you want about Kyle. The boy has talent and good equipment. Certainly a winning combination in my book. Nice to see him dominate the road race.
I hear the open wheeler boys except Boris Said might be farmed out to a Jr. League Go Kart series.
Hanny- I wasnt there for the big wreck on Saturday. Heard about it though! Sat afternoon was my only "downtime" all weekend so I could work on some blogs and download the 300+ pics I snapped in 2 days in the garage! oy...
I have always said the kid can drive, and now he proved he can drive on any type. I still think the best part about the race was Dale Jr telling his crew to tell Montoya to GO ! HE IS THE PRO AT THIS, GET UP THERE AND MAKE SOME HOLES. LMAO.
Congrads Kyle, Hanahan, and all his fans.
cheerssssssssssss
Hanahan, I love the way Kyle gets out of his car and takes a bow. I really think that is great! It sure beats 'snow angels' doesn't it!LOL Anyway, I thought Kyle did an outstanding job.
husk...how ya livin bro. What do we have, about 9 weeks until real football? 9, loooong, hottt, weeks. I'll be at my 1st game---preseason, but better than nothing---on Aug 16. Dolphins @ Jags.
Hanahan - It will be interesting to see if his skill and luck hold out. I always worry that at some point the bad finishes catch up to you. But then again, Johnson lead a charmed life for a few years there - so maybe the bad luck is his for now.
Where are all those dastardly anti Kyle people when he can't be criticized?
I think you caught my drift last night on jon's and Tyler's posts... I don't think jon cares for Kyle, but he was forced to put him in the "Good" category. That was it, there was not a word about his driving skill...
D-Man...long time no see. Hope you had fun showing your girl around town. Don't know if you saw the race, but Kyle stunk up the show. I think I did the idea for this post from you. Thanks.
Well I predicted Kyle being good this yea. Did I expect him to kick #### at the road course? No I didn't see it coming. He is truely going to be the driver to beat for the championship.
Cant wait for Loudon..
