This caught my attention and just made me think “Wow, so THAT’S how they do it!”
Can someone explain to me why the Chicago Bears “genius” head coach Lovie Smith, decided to choose the starting QB depending on a coin toss? Can you explain to me why you let the future of your team rest on the flip of a coin? I don’t understand it. He must want to be fired or something?
If you look at the Bears of the ‘80s, do you really think they would let their team rest on the flip of a coin? No way. I always thought of the Bears as a proud organization, but this makes me think twice. How could the owner let this go down the way it did? What would Mike Ditka do? Not this, that’s for sure!
If you have been presented a choice of #### one or #### two like Coach Smith has apparently been, is this really the way you handle it?
DUH! NO! Absolutely not. You go out there and find a free agent QB. Whether he has shown that he is a playoff QB or just a winning season QB, you are not going to get either a winning season or the playoffs with Orton or Grossman.
I’m sure there is someone out there that you could get! I can’t see either the Bears or Favre contacting one another, so find another guy.
Here is a list of free agent quarterbacks.
Daunte Culpepper Trent Dilfer Tim Hasselbeck Byron Leftwich Jamie Martin Craig Nall Dan Orlovsky Tim Rattay Kelly Holcomb Marques Tuiasosopo Chris Weinke
A couple names on that list caught my eye. Let’s eliminate the ones that don’t have a chance of starting for the Bears.
Daunte Culpepper Trent Dilfer Byron Leftwich Chris Weinke
One of those 4 names should be signed by Chicago. Daunte Culpepper is still a terrific QB, and there is no reason why 32 teams don’t want him on their roster. Trent Dilfer looked revitalized with a new sense of passion last season when starting for the injured Alex Smith out in San Fran. Byron Leftwich, I don’t care what people say, is still capable of starting. He doesn’t need to run to fit into the Bears system. Leave that up to Kevin Jones and Matt Forte. The passing game would certainly improve with him. Remember, he took the Jaguars to the post-season in 2006. Chris Weinke’s NFL career didn’t quite pan out the way he and many others expected. He was a Heisman winner in college, but never got to that level in the pros. He could still do a better job and throw less INTs that either Rex or Kyle on the Bears.
One of these guys needs to be signed, because if Lovie wants to keep his job, he needs to be in contention in November, and to do that, he can’t have his current passers leading the offense.
Let's hoep for their sake that the Bears are able to "Rise Above This" doubt.
Donovan McNabb had a great game Sunday, upending the Vegas favorites, the Washignton Redskins. But, that is not what this post is about. This is a weeklong series of blogs I will be doing, brainstorming where McNabb might be headed this off-season, if he decides to leave Philadelphia.
Personally I think Donovan McNabb will be running for his life out of Philly when the off-season comes, especially if the miss the playoffs.
So, I am going to name the first team that will want him, if he decides to try his hand in free agency this off-season.
Team #1:
Chicago Bears
The Bears are in desperate need of a QB. With their playoff chances gone this season, the Bears have already benched Rex Grossman, and started veteran QB Brian Griese, expecting him to fill most, if not all the holes left behind by Grossman's poor offensive style.
Well, turns out, he's not the man for the job, and Lovie doesn't even seem to know that there is a third QB sitting on the sidelines, playing benchwarmer for the "stars". Kyle Orton hasn't had a chance to prove his worth to Coach Smith yet, because Smith doesn't give him a chance. I think that Grossman will end up being cut, Griese will retire, and Orton will be traded or walk away.
So, that leaves the QB spot in Chicago wide open. Now, keep in mind that McNabb is originally from the town of Chciago, IL, so I'm sure he would love to play for his home team.
But, there's still the draft. There's no doubt in my mind that the Bears are gonna go after one of college's top QBs in the draft, like Dennis Dixon (Oregon) or Matt Ryan (Boston College), maybe even Colt Brennan (Hawaii), but the question is, would they still go after a QB in the first round even if they had McNabb locked up and on the team already?
The answer is yes.
McNabb has showed some serious inconsistency, while being a great QB his entire career, the man is injury prone, and don't get me wrong, but when you're playing Chicago, you just want to hit 'em a little harder.
So, McNabb will be a good fit for the team, especially with the current struggle they seem to be facing. I think they still need to go scouting around, and see whihc of the college QBs would be the best fit for Chicago if McNabb goes down.
Thanks for reading! Please keep checking, as tomorrow, I will discuss another city McNabb may be headed. Please leave a comment! Have a great day!
First off, the title. I'm pretty sure it wasn't MY advice, but whatever!
Good job, Lovie Smith! You have finally done the right thing, and benched Rex Grossman.
So, Brian Griese was named starter for Sunday’s game against the Lions in Detroit.
But, the question is: How good IS Griese?
Better than Grossman, I’m willing to wager.
Nonetheless, Kyle Orton should be warming up on the sidelines. We have already seen Lovie change his mind in the span of 3 days, there is time for him to flip-flop again.
Why do I say that?
Because earlier this week, Lovie Smith held a press conference following their disappointing loss to the 3-0 Cowboys at home. He apparently still showed that Rex would be starter in Detroit on Sunday. So, on Tuesday, I wrote a post about how Lovie should start Brian Griese over Rex Grossman if they want to win. So, what do I hear this morning? Rex is benched and Brian is feeling the heat to start up the Bears season.
I think that he can do it, but he needs to get to work fast. He is surrounded by a good offense, but he needs to be able to turn that around, and make it a great one!
He has star running back Cedric Benson to work with. He has quick and agile legs, and can also make a quick catch when needed.
At the wideout position, he can always expect a good catch out of Muhsin Muhammad or Bernard Berrian. Desmond Clark is the TE, and he can block for you on one play, and catch a pass for you on the next. Star kick/punt returner, Devin Hester, can take them back to the house, and if not, at least give Griese and the offense good field position.
Bottom Line: Brian Griese has a loaded offense, they just need to work on chemistry, and how to motivate the weakened offensive front four, who have let by sack after sack after sack. Griese needs to get the entire team involved quickly and if he can do that, I don’t see them losing to their rival Lions.
Check out my picks later this week!
