This caught my attention and just made me think “Wow, so THAT’S how they do it!”
Can someone explain to me why the Chicago Bears “genius” head coach Lovie Smith, decided to choose the starting QB depending on a coin toss? Can you explain to me why you let the future of your team rest on the flip of a coin? I don’t understand it. He must want to be fired or something?
If you look at the Bears of the ‘80s, do you really think they would let their team rest on the flip of a coin? No way. I always thought of the Bears as a proud organization, but this makes me think twice. How could the owner let this go down the way it did? What would Mike Ditka do? Not this, that’s for sure!
If you have been presented a choice of #### one or #### two like Coach Smith has apparently been, is this really the way you handle it?
DUH! NO! Absolutely not. You go out there and find a free agent QB. Whether he has shown that he is a playoff QB or just a winning season QB, you are not going to get either a winning season or the playoffs with Orton or Grossman.
I’m sure there is someone out there that you could get! I can’t see either the Bears or Favre contacting one another, so find another guy.
Here is a list of free agent quarterbacks.
Daunte Culpepper Trent Dilfer Tim Hasselbeck Byron Leftwich Jamie Martin Craig Nall Dan Orlovsky Tim Rattay Kelly Holcomb Marques Tuiasosopo Chris Weinke
A couple names on that list caught my eye. Let’s eliminate the ones that don’t have a chance of starting for the Bears.
Daunte Culpepper Trent Dilfer Byron Leftwich Chris Weinke
One of those 4 names should be signed by Chicago. Daunte Culpepper is still a terrific QB, and there is no reason why 32 teams don’t want him on their roster. Trent Dilfer looked revitalized with a new sense of passion last season when starting for the injured Alex Smith out in San Fran. Byron Leftwich, I don’t care what people say, is still capable of starting. He doesn’t need to run to fit into the Bears system. Leave that up to Kevin Jones and Matt Forte. The passing game would certainly improve with him. Remember, he took the Jaguars to the post-season in 2006. Chris Weinke’s NFL career didn’t quite pan out the way he and many others expected. He was a Heisman winner in college, but never got to that level in the pros. He could still do a better job and throw less INTs that either Rex or Kyle on the Bears.
One of these guys needs to be signed, because if Lovie wants to keep his job, he needs to be in contention in November, and to do that, he can’t have his current passers leading the offense.
Let's hoep for their sake that the Bears are able to "Rise Above This" doubt.
