These are my predictions on each NFC team’s 2008 campaign. I will say below each team their record, whether or not they make the playoffs, and what seed they are if they do make it. Here are my predictions for the 2008 NFL regular season! (If two teams in the same division finish with the same record in my predictions, the team higher in the standings wins the tie-breaker)
NFC North Minnesota 10-6, NFC North Champs, No. 4 seed Detroit 10-6, NFC Wild Card, No. 6 seed Green Bay 7-9, no playoffs Chicago 4-12, no playoffs
NFC South Tampa Bay 11-5, NFC South Champs, No. 3 seed New Orleans 11-5, NFC Wild Card, No. 5 seed Carolina 6-10, no playoffs Atlanta 5-11, no playoffs
NFC East Dallas 15-1, NFC East Champs, No. 1 seed New York Giants 9-7, no playoffs Philadelphia 8-8, no playoffs Washington 5-11, no playoffs
NFC West Seattle 12-4, NFC West Champs, No. 2 seed Arizona 6-10, no playoffs St. Louis 4-12, no playoffs San Francisco 2-14, no playoffs
Let me hear your thoughts! Don’t forget to check out the AFC post as well!
I Think Your Predictions are more than correct.
But I Have an argument to make.
I Really dont see Tampa Bay being the NFC south champs. I Honestly believe the Saints will surprise everyone. Not saying that they are gonna be the best. But They will be better. I Have a question.
Im Kinda new to all this. But All i see everyone write is how Dallas is this great team.
I Honestly think Dallas is a lil overrated.
They will do good. But WILL not be the best in the NFC. I Predict New Orleans vs Seattle in the NFC champ game. Good write up man.
Mike,
I can't believe you think Dallas is that good that they'll only lose 1 game. Also I doubt very seriously both the Saints and the Buc's end up with the same record.
Saints win the South and will be a #3 seed at the least. I will agree that Dallas may be the number 1 seed but 15-1...no way.
Look at their schedule, Shane. Dallas has only 1-3 losses on it. (BTW- I pick the Cowboys over my beloved Stillers)
The Saints aren't gonna surprise anyone. The Bucs still might. I think the only reason the Bucs get ahead of the Saints is because Tampa wins their last regular season meeting. Bush and McAlister are both still question marks. The Sinats did okay withut them, but thye won't get to the playoffs unless both of them are at 100% every Sunday. The chances of that happening for 17 straight weeks are slim.
I like Dallas to come out of the NFC this year, but I don't see them only losing one game when they gotta play Philly, Washington and the G-Men a total of six times.
Let's just hope, Like most of this Nations Sport media, That Seattle doesn't end up with the number 1 seed. It'll be just like 2005, watching those idiots jump on the Bandwagon after dogging them all season long. Oh my God, Then we'll have to listen to them try to hype up the Final season of Holmgren too, Damn, ya just can't win!
Pat Moran- About Detroit: I'm a homer. Lions have always been my second-favorite team, but I really see them doing good this year. Philly and Washington are not gonna match-up when the play Dallas this year.
Bonesan- The Seahawks won't end up as #1. Take care!
The Steelers won't need luck. They are gonna dominate the AFC North, and even if we do end up with a #4 seed, that's pretty damn good. Anytime anyone makes the playoffs, that's a pretty good year. We won as a #6 seed against the Bengals, Colts, Broncos and Seahawks, so nothing is impossible in the playoffs.
even though I'd love it if the Cowboys went 15-1, i cant see it happenin. I think the Giants will have another great year and b some tough competition, not sure about the Redskins, but i think theyre better than most people think and time will tell. The eagles arent half bad either.
drewpy, I only see the Cowboys losing to the Giants at the Meadowlands. Great team, watch out for them!
Eagles are half bad, half good. 8-8. LOL! The Redskins get no attention, and rightfully so. Campbell is gonna lose again due to another offensive system change.
and for dallas at best they are 11-5 . and why you disrespecting the best team in that div, the giants........and why you have the giants winning the north i got to go with the packers in that div at 10-6 and minnasoto 9-7 no playoffs and the lions at 7-9 bears 7-9
the only div i agree with is the south, other than that i dont like nothing else. and the seahawks going 12-4 come on use your brain. seahawks were 4-4 at the mid way point last season and if it wasnt for having the easiest second half schedule in football last year they dont make playoffs.................my predictions north packers...south bucs...east giants...west niners ..wild cards cowboys and the saints
Mike,
what made you change your mind on the NFC South. back on Aug 7 you said Bucs would go 7-9 and lose division to Saints. Now you have both going 11-5 and Bucs winning. What gives?
Mike, I agree with three of your four division champions: Dallas, Minnesota, and Seattle. Dallas goes 11-5, Minny's about right at 10-6. Seattle goes 10-6. But Detroit as a wild card? I don't think so. Tampa Bay also takes a step back. They go 8-8. I have New Orleans winning the NFC South, and Carolina getting a Wild Card, and the Giants getting the other Wild Card.
sf- Where is the talent on that team? Alex Smith? HA! He hasn't had a winning season, and as the QB goes, the team goes. The Seahawks are the most talented in that division, and have won it the lats four years because everyone else in that divisions has done nothing but suck.
I dare you to find 5 losses on Dallas's schedule. The Giants are not the bets team in that divison, either. They did great the final 5 games of their year, but prior to that, you wouldn't hear about them much.
I don't have the Giants winning the North. Although, that would be quite a feat if they did, considering they play in the East.
I hope you'll be back here in December to stick up for San Fran when the Seahawks make the 49ers their b*tches.
jimmelh- I looked into it more, and especially after the whole Favre scenario, I think Garcia will play a hell of a lot better now that his job could be on the line. They are a team to watch out for. Take care!
jon- If you have the Panthers gettign a wild card, then I assume you think Delhomme will start all 16 games? I don't think it will happen. He's too injury prone this late in his career to have a serious impact on the outcome of that division. I hope I'm wrong, because I like Jake, but I just don't see it happening, in my opinion. Take care!
the question is what talent do the seahawks have other than i good cb ,2 good lbs, and the tenth best qb in the league. alex smith will have a solid year this year, and if he does like i think he will we are garanteed to win the west, we got good receivers issac bruce, bryant johnson, josh morgan, arnaz battle, two good tihgt ends vernon davis ,delani walker, one of the best running backs in the league frank gore,a good running back deshaun foster, a great left tackle joe staley...defencivly we have great corners nate clements, walt harris, two good safetys dashon goldson, michael lewis.... two of the best line backers in league patrick willis , manny lawson...some good delineman justin smith, kwentan balmer, ray mcdonald,isopaga......you are way under rating this team .
the niners went 7-9 in 2006 then last year injuries killed us ,and having a new bonehead oc but thats no longer the case,we have martz and are players are healthy again
Cowboys 15-1? Not in the best division in football will they have that many wins. Alot of people underestimating the Eagles this year. Their going to surprise alot of people this year.
Did you roll some dice when you came up with these predictions? Here is some advice, DONT GO TO VEGAS!!! Here is one thing that caught my eye,,, 49ers 2-14! They will finish 11-5 or 10-6 and win the WEST!!!!!!!! I dont really care about your other predictions, But they are out there! Next time do some research before you try to prove that you are smart!
Lupus- Look at Dallas's schedule. It looks good form a Coboys standpoint.
sf- Well, what can I say? Alex Smith is NOT gonna have the year you think he will. The niners are not as talented as Seattle. That's an insane statement. Don't get your hopes up, you're gona get your heart broken by San Fran this year.
jimmelh- I simply was implying that if Gruden wasn't happy with a QB who won him the division, anything can happen. I second your comment about the 49ers.
Guerra- They have a lot of great teams on the road. They went on a tear for 5 games last year, that's it.
jimmelh- I like that prediction. Steelers win, I suppose?
ATRAIN78- Another homer SF fan? You're gonna get riled up when the 49ers finish with no more than 5 wins.
nickster- Thank you for the kind words. The Bucs have their work cut out for them when they play the Saints, though. Take care!
Accuscore.com ran Dallas' schedule. Played each game 1,000 times on computer simulation. Only game on Dallas' schedule that was a loss was @ Giants. Still 15-1 is just too hard to pull off in the NFC East. You even got 'em beating your Steelers? How brutally honest.
Mike, I think Delhomme WILL start all 16 games, and he'll end up as Comeback Player of the Year. As Delhomme goes, so go the Panthers. The Cats have a much improved receiving corps, a battering ram RB in Jonathan Stewart, and I think their D-line will be better than last year. Special teams does concern me, though. I can easily see the Panthers at 10-6, with a Wild Card berth.
As far as Dallas, they go 4-2 in division. Against the AFC North, they go 3-1 (loss at Pittsburgh). Against the NFC West, they go 3-1. Against the other two first-place teams from last year, they split. That's 11-5. Somewhere along the way they find a game they totally *(*(&*(()$#$@ up and lose when they shouldn't.
sf- Don't be ridiculous. I don't hate the niners. I'm just telling you the facts. The 49ers stink now, and will stink until a different QB comes in.
MidniteCowboy- If I am going to be an expert at this, I need to be completely un-biast when predicting championships.
jon- CPOTY? Hmm... If you say so. I like your thinking about the Boys losing to the Steelers, but I think we'll be too beat up from the last few weeks before playing them to dismantle them.
Gambit- You might be right, but I think this whole "December loss" thing is being made to big of a deal. I think they'll seperate themselves from it this year. Take care, everyone!
Mike
as before I think your 08 prognostications are close to mine. I have no problem with your positioning of the Cowboys. Obviously Thanksgiving day should be a "big game" then. And if the Hawks come up short there is certainly a good chance of a rematch in the deep rounds. I like Minnesota in the 3rd slot with the caveat of improved QB play and I think they'll get it after watching Thursday nites game against the Hawks,
just for the record I was rashed by ESPNs lack of respect in their post game presentations Thursday evening. If you caught that I hope you noticed and get a better understanding of what it is we put up with out here in nowhereland! The Vikings and who? jus sayin
Mike...I also think the Lions go 10 and 6...I think the Vikings are good but if they lose Peterson for any length of time they could be in trouble eventough Taylor is a darn good back.....
I think the Lions could lose almost any one player and not skip a beat....although Backus and Kevin Smith would hurt big time....

I'm glad you noticed Detroit Greenspire. I'm not a lions fan, but they were a boarder line playoff team last year, and look improved this year. Kitna is only an average QB, but with targets like Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams he could put up some respectable numbers in 08. A WC spot is not that hard to believe if you just look past the fact the they are the lions.
PS, Glad to see you think so highly of my seahawks.
CHawkz- The Cowboys could fall apart starting on Turkey Day, but this year, I don't see it happening.
BarkShanty- The Vikes losing AP would hurt them big time. The Lions might need something like that to happen if they wanna win one game against Minny this year.
Hawksown9ers- The Seahawks have absolutely no challenge in the West. All thos teams will finish well below .500, except maybe AZ, they might pull off some close ones. Still, the Hawks win the West either way.
Greenspire, Anything can happen , thats why we play the games! Now , I am agreeing with you, Alex S. will not have a great year, but if he has an average year say like a 75 Qb rating, that will be enough to make the post season! The 49ers running game could be at the top of the league, and also the 49ers secondary is a 1 or 2 in the league,, That drives the 49ers in the top 5 in defense! I think thats enough, You dont hav to have a great Qb to win games, You still have 52 other players that do their part!
Yes, anything can happen, but Smith only having a 75 QB rating is NOT enough for them to make the post-season. They need Frank Gore, Smith, Battle, Bruce and Davis to play 100% every week if thye want to have even a shot at making the playoffs. It is not going to happen.
Gore is the only good RB on that team. So, when you say "running game", you mean the contributions of one guy. Eh, ya know what? Maybe DeShaun Foster will be good, but what has he done in the past 2 years in Carolina? Not much.
The secondary best or second best? Are you joking? Who is in that secondary? Nate Clements? I just looked at the roster, and he is the only guy I have ever heard of.
Okay, seriously, I can name 5 defenses better than the 49ers. Here goes: Dallas, Pittsburgh, New England, Tennessee, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, New York Giants, San Diego and Tampa Bay.
Looks like you'll have to settle for 11th bet for now. More like 17th. Manny Lawson and Patrick Willis are two outstanding players, but they won't be able to get wins for the niners until the coaches are serious about getting wins. The addition of Kentwan Balmer will help, and if they do have a defense in the Top 10, kudos. But the offense needs to do better than they are on paper.
Mikey...5 games last year so,that makes them 15-1 this year. What a tear, maybe they'll have the same luck this year and go 5-11.This is earth, what planet are you on? Maybe you schould comment on the WNBA.
