Tonight, The Pirates play the Padres in the 2nd game of this series.
Pitching Match-Up
Pirates Zach Duke (4-7) 4.92 ERA with 49 K's this season
Padres Cha Seung Baek (0-1) 5.40 ERA with 15 K's this season
Low-Down Zach Duke is a good pitcher, but has had some serious question marks surrounding his consistency this season. However, I don't see that becoming an dissue due to San Diego's weak batting order.
Key Factor Tonight's key factor will be how long Duke spends time in the game. The longer he is on the mound, the longer the Padres will be kept from taking the lead. If Duke gives us a solid 6 innings, I'll be happy and comfortable putting Tyler Yates in for relief.
Prediction Pirates-11, Padres- 3 The Pirates are on a hot streak of late, taking down the Astros and Padres to win 4 straight. I see the winning streak continuing tonight with a 5th straight win, 11-3 Buccos.

Is there real excitment and entertaiment to be had here ? Or are you just trying to inspire us to coming around to admire the Pirates ? It's not working for me thus far as neither of the teams seems to know how to play a competent and entertaining game at the moment.
They're both woefully inept in all facets of the game and then some ! But it's as they say whatever floats your boat is bound to make you happy at the end of the day .
justan- The Pirates have had some terrific games this season, including the best baseball game I have ever seen!
Pirates vs. Cardinals on July 12.
The Pirates were down 6 runs in the 8th, and 4 runs in the 9th. They cam back and tied it up at 10.
Top of the 10th, tied 10-10. Rick Ankiel hits a solo-shot homer to take an 11-10 lead for the Cards.
Bottom of the 10th, Jason Michaels up to bat, runner on base. SLAM! That ball is OUTTA HERE! The Pirates won 12-11 in what is the best baseball game I have ever seen in my life.
If you watch the Buccos more often, you'll see there is plenty of excitment to ba had, and if you jumped on the bandwagon while reading my Pirates Tonight posts, that would be cool!

I can't endure all the pain and torture that'd bring watching a team lose 1 run games let alone losing repeatedly with such consistency. The mind and the body can only take so much at the end of the day.
So if you don't mind I'll continue to support the Marlins form hereon in !
I see that Gruden'll have his work cut out for him over the enxt couple of days ? Especially as all of the talk'll be about whether or not he and Bruce Allen'll pursue Brett Favre. If I'm Garcia at this juncture I'd be sh**#ing bricks waiting to see what'll no doubt happen.
Greenspire
Well Bruce Allen has said that the team has an interest in Favre. So it leads to me to believe that there is afterall an interest there. However they've got Garcia who wants an extension to his contract. 2 years at anywhere between $4.5m-$6m per. And it's about half what Favre is owed this year alone at $12m.
So you tell me which direction they're liable to go ? And at the same time they're still paying Chris Simms to keep his a## warm on the bench at $3.5m per year.
This franchise is as asinine as they come and a hell of a lot more.
No wonder they've been so inconsistent over the last couple of years. They'll revert back to what they were before last year. Another marginal team at best. Without a signal caller of merit they're a pi## poor team to begin with !
We have WAAAY better hitting than pitching, so since we lost Nady and Marte, we still picked up 3 pitchers, one of whom, I know is solid. Ohlendorf is his name. (I think I spelled it right)
The NL Wild Card race is too tough for us to catch up at this point. Florida, Philly, Milwaukee, and St. Louis are all fighting for that one spot. We won't make it, not this year. If Wilson had been healthy, and Sanchez had been playing .300 baseball like he is used to back in April and May, we would be above .500 right now, guaranteed.

Does the Pirates' management really care about their fans ? They're more about depleting their roster of talent and have about as much ambtions a panhandler on the streets.
The fans have had to endure far too much over the years. And I for one think that it's pitiful display by their management and ownership.
For the fans who go one eduring this c##p it's pathetic to think that they've been made to endure it all.
If this is what the game is meant to be about. Then I pity the custodians of it and the fans who are enduring this mess and in particular the Pirates' fans. Owners like this have and possess no ambition other than seeing the money come into their coffers.
