Well, does anyone want to see Francisco Rodriguez break Thigpen's record of 57 saves?
K-Rod currently has 42 saves, which means he only has to save 1 out of every 4 games from this point on to tie Thigpen's record.
Let me hear your thoughts on this topic. Personally, I think it is inevitable that he breaks it this year. As long as he doesn't hurt himself.
The Angels put him in for ONE OUT last night. One out! The final out in the 9th inning was up to him to make, and the Angels put him in there so he would be that much closer to breaking the record.
I thought it was a cool move, but some people may have taken it too seriously. I'm not sure what other people's reactions are yet, but I can see where fans of the losing team may be disgruntled. I don't think they should be, however.
I am cheering for him. The fewer White Sox in the record book - the better! And I think K-Rod will break it - but he won't crush it. I can't imagine they'll keep playing over .600 ball all year. No team has done so since the Cardinals and the --- yes I hate to admit it --- White Sox in 2005.
It sure will be interesting to see what he gets as a free agent. If Gagne can land $10 million for a year, this guy will absolutely get more per year than any closer in history.
Greenspire Records are meant to be broken. That way it'll give others something to aspire to. K-Rod has been exceptional this season and I for one hopes that he breaks Thigpen's record this year.
Have you been listening to all the radio talk on Favre as of late ? And the fact that the belief is that his impending arrival here in Tampa'll be greeted as the second coming of Christ.
I wonder how Garcia'll be feeling about the situation at this juncture ?
Last season he all but lifted the team on his back and led them to a divisional title. And this may well be how he'll be repaid . In nothing else Gruden isn't being deceitful. But it begs the question how does he look at himself in the mirror each morning ? He's unwilling to renegotiate Garcia's contract but he's quite willing to take on Favre's $12m for this year. Makes a great deal of sense doesn't it ?
Records are made to be broken, but unfortunately I don't like K-Rod. It's amazing he's lasted this long with that strange delivery. He'll break it as an Angel and be with another team next season.
I haven't heard the name Bobby Thigpen in a long time.
Bobby Thigpen needs to keep the record! Even if the save statistic is an easily-manipulated triviality it's good to see a White Sox player holding the record.
I bet Bobby Thigpen doesn't. Thats that guys claim to fame. I think it is a bit of a foregone conclusion that he is going to get it. Because the Angels wins games, and they never blow anybody out. He has basically got 2 whole months to get 16 saves, which is very possible and probable.
