Well, this is a terrific time to be a sports fan from the city of Pittsburgh. The Steelers are back in the playoffs, the Penguins, most notably, are in the Stanley Cup Finals, and the Pirates are, well, at least we know what to expect from them!
The Pittsburgh Penguins advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1992 on Sunday, defeating the cross-state rivals, the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-0.
Well, after Sunday, it was just a matter of time until we saw who gets to play the Pens, and as it turns out, the following night, the Red Wings defeated the Stars, 4-1.
Well, I was nervous about playing the Red Winsg up until Game 5 in Detroit. In case you don't know, or for some reason don't remember, the Wings lost that game, and let Dallas back into the series. After that day, I was more confident than ever in the Pens.
If Dallas can beat Detroit on the road, then Pittsburgh could beat Detroit handily on the road, which is what I think will happen come Staurday night. I see the Penguins winning Game 1, yet barely losing Game 2, and heading back to the 'Burgh all tied up.
Wow, then it's just a matter of time from there. Nobody has beaten the Penguins on their home ice since the Flyers did it in the regular season finale, back in April. I say the Pens win both games in Pittsburgh, and gain a 3-1 lead on the Red Wings.
So, back in Detroit, I'll give the Wings credit and give them the win in Game 5. Then, comes Game 6, in front of the home crowd of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Penguins win the 2008 Stanley Cup!
Greenspire, looks like you have been overun with Detroit supporters. The Pens will not go down in 5. I can promise them that. The Pens aren't just Sidney Crosby, hate to tell that last responder. If he thinks that he is sadly mistaken. It will be a good series either way. Detroit is a great team, but so are the Pens. They is a very even series. It could do either way, but hopefully it goes the Pens way. LET'S GO PENS indeed.
Lupus, rynexp34, and guvna42- I find it funny that you guys apparently haven't seen a Penguins game since '92 or something.
Crosby is not the only player we have, and I have heard that all year from Detroit fans. That is so incredibly naive of them. We have the SINGLE BEST player in the world, Evgeni Malkin, we have Jordan Staal, Marian Hossa, Marc Andre Fleury, Petr Sykora, Sergei Gonchar, Hal Gill, Ryan Malone, Georges Laraque, Max Talbot, Ty Conklin, Gary Roberts, Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis, Ruutu, Rob Scuderi, and Kris Letang. We have a tremendous roster, and will win the series in 6. We are better than Detroit.
Lupus, Yes, but the way you listed that stat only proves that the Penguins are better. I think you may have the records switched by accident.
Take care! And, by the way, yes; I have watched a Pens game since '92, even through the tough years, no matter what, we still sell out that arena. Unlike Detroit fans who blame the economy or they are too nervous of a choke, like the ones of these past 3-4 years. The Pens fans always have been and always will be in our team's corner! GO PENS!!!
Lupus- Maybe you don't know what I'm talking about, but the "Joe" was sold out in Game 1 of their Dallas series, and the seats were more than 3/8 empty. You can't blame all of that on the economy or traffic.
How many games Detroit won in the regular season doesn't matter now. That only matters in winning the President's Trophy and guess what; that's not the trophy they're playing for. Now it matters how many games they've won in the play-offs 16 each or neither team would be here.
roflmao.. The pens did the opposite from your predictions.. I give them credit for putting up a good fight, especially in game 5.. But in the end, the Red Wings were too much for them... Too much talent, and experience on the Red Wing Roster. Congrads Red Wings on winning the Cup!!!
Sorry Mike...we won the Cup . But hey..the Pens have nothing to be ashamed of....they gave us all their heart and soul those last 2 games. As I said before though...experience in the playoffs is everything and it was proven Wednesday night. So Pens fans...consider this "experience" and to my fellow Wings fans....WOOHOOO!!! Lord Stanley is HOME!
