SAN FRANCISCO- Barry Bonds, Major League Baseball's All-Time Home Run Hitter, has been charged with 14 counts of perjury to a grand jury while under oath and 1 count of obstruction of justice.
This comes today, several months after he was back in the news about the BALCO scandal. He has not given a statement to the press yet.
I will do my best to keep you updated on this story as it comes.

so what?! The numbers are skewed with perjury charges. the govt claims a ~80% conviction rate, but thats just the mooks who foolishly go to trial. 3/4's of all perjury cases are settled or dropped. when i attempt to google numbers that reflect the true rate of conviction, the internets cough. they have to charge barry because they've invested so much money in him. when it comes down to it, the GOVT knows they can't win. Just like the #### who charged Kobe Bryant for rape and continued with the trial even after the cops found 2 different semen samples from two different men in the rape kit - neither of which belonged to kobe. There aint no way this prosecutor is going to drop this until either Barry taps out or the boss tells him to drop it. but read barry's statements, he worded them too carefully. the only witness for the prosecution has already been to jail. i'm sure the prosecution thought that would soften him up, but i doubt it. That wouldn only stiffen my resolve not to give them a damn thing. why help people who threw you in jail and destroyed your career? barry is worth hundreds of millions and can repay this guy a thousand times over for keeping his mouth shut. plus, if the trainer recants now, he could be brought up on perjury charges, too.

They have had him all along with the lying. I wonder if they will make an example out of him and "The Rocket" to persuade others to be truthful in the future? The race thing wont play here when they nail Clemens. They pay, baseball suffers and life goes on...
According to the article on FoxSports this morning he hasn't been charged with anything he wasn't already charged with. They re-wrote the charges as ordered by the judge and broke them down. Now they have released the 14 charges which look so much more dramtic than 4 charges and people are jumping all over it...just like they knew they would. Perhaps they need a larger number of charges so that when they get to haggling over reducing charges in the pre-trial negotiations the government will still have something to work with. You know how it goes...charge the accused with a boat load of things and then whittle them down during aforementioned negotiations. Now the government won't get stuck with egg on their face and Bonds will eventually be forced to admit to something. The game continues on any scale...sadly.
