blue@orange- Do not worry, the Steelers news is coming soon!
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the National Football League announced this afternoon that QB Jeff Garcia will be replacing Brett Favre in the Pro Bowl, comign up on February 10. I do not know at this time why Favre is not participating in this year's Pro Bowl. Please, speculate for me. If I were to make a guess, it's because he is not ready to go bak into the public eye just yet, afte his poor game against the New York Football Giants in the NFC Title Game last Sunday.
But if Favre were to be replaced by someone who deserved it, it would be Garcia. I am still not convinced that the Buccaneers are a legit team, and I do not believe that they deserved to be in the post-season, but what he did with that team this year was remarkable.
They were a pitiful 4-12 in 2006, one year after making the playoffs as a #3 seed, only to lose to Washington in the Wild Card round. They made the playoffs this season as a #4 team with a 9-7 record. An improvement, but not terrific.
BREAKING NEWS ALERT: The Buccaneers are sending Jeff Garcia to the Pro Bowl to replace Brett Favre. Brett Favre was the back-up, meanign he would play the entire second half, so Garcia will be the second-half QB for the NFC.
mike; am i the only one who thinks drew brees should have been #2 behind favre? garcia? look at the numbers, it aint even close. i think drew is a victum of the saints record this year. GARCIA? come on! thanks for the ( not so subtle) invite. any blog that starts like that should win a pulitzer!!!!
blue@orange,
Actully you aren't the only one. The stats do not lie. Brees is an out standing QB. Let me tell you who else was snuffed Maquis Colston. He has better #'s than three of the four starters at the WR position. But just like the NBA All-Star game it's a popularity contest and it will never be right.
1 Tony Romo DAL QB 97.4
2 Brett Favre GB QB 95.7
3 Jeff Garcia TB QB 94.6
4 Matt Hasselbeck SEA QB 91.4
5 Donovan McNabb PHI QB 89.9
6 Kurt Warner ARI QB 89.8
7 Drew Brees NO QB 89.4
I like Brees too, but it looks like they got it right! Besides, the Buccaneers won their division and didn't have a single representative at the Pro Bowl. Seems right to me!

Despite the QB rating (which to this day I don't fully understand), I'd probably take Brees too. And Greenspire is right. Favre is too embarrassed to show up, but at least Tony Romo has some balls, even though he blew it too.
Dwindy- Thanks for the info. This could be very useful in about two weeks when the game actually gets here. Take care! Send Hasselbeck, at least he won a game.
garcia? Are you kidding me? Shocking! Of course, I never watch the Pro Bowl..heck....too many diff teams represented for me to choose a side. I'll take Tom Brady's team, if he's avaialble.
