First off, sorry blue@orange. Leave the NHA out of it this time.
The Baltimore Ravens hired Philadelphia Eagles Special Teams Assistant Coach, John Harbaugh as head coach Friday Evening. Congratulations on a great find to Baltimore!
I have heard this guy's name pop up throughout the season, and I had su####ions that he might be promoted to Head Coach after Andy Reid. I thought that Reid would be out after this season, so the guy from that squad you want is Harbaugh. I did not think that he was that widely recognized around the NFL to be given a Head Coachign job that quickly. When you have your name up there next to Jason Garrett of the Cowboys, you know you are doing something right.
Personally, I was leaning towards Garrett. After he said no, I immediately thought of Ravens Defensive Coordinator, Rex Ryan, or perhaps Rob Ryan from the Oakland Raiders, after they fired him earlier this week.
I doubt that anyone besides the Ravens front office could honestly say that they saw this guy becoming their head coach.
There are now two open head coaching jobs: Washington and Atlanta. Here are my picks for the front-runners:
Atlanta
Rob Ryan, formerly Oakland Coordinator
Steve Spagnola, Giants Coordinator
Washington
Gregg Williams, Washington Coordinator
Steve Spurrier, Collegiate Coach of South Carolina
Give me your front-runners! Congrats to John Harbaugh!
mike; so you think you know me? well your wright, way to nip that in the bud. as far as the choice? works out all around, the ravens need offence and im sure harbough is more than happy to get away from the circus that the eagles are turning into.
We'll see about Harbaugh's success next season. I don't expect much. And whoever takes that Falcons job better have patience. That's a project and a half.
I don't see Spurrier going anywhere. I really think USC is going to be his last gig. He's gettin' old.
I think the Falcons should look at Marty for head coach and Cam Cameron as Offensive Coordinator. Marty will at least help them get back to where they want to be......the playoffs. After that, you give him a year to prove he can win in the post season. If he can't, you can thank him for building a winner and find someone to take them the next step. Say what you want about Marty, but he is a regular season winner!
blue@orange- Thanks for commeting! Have a great weekend!
Rev- Thanks for stopping by! Haven't seen you in a while! The Spurrier thing, yeah, just thought I'd throw out a far-fetched prediction amidst all of the educated nonsense. LOL! Take care!
BB21- Not a bad idea. Of course, this IS coming from a CHARGERS fan. JK! Blog it, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they tried to do.
I think Harbaugh will do well in Baltimore, once he gets the players he wants. Give him 2-3 years to turn the Ravens around.
I've heard Rex Ryan is the front-runner in Atlanta. Gregg Williams will more than likely be the Redskins' next head coach.
Spurrier failed miserably in Washington after a hugely successful career at Florida. I concur with Rev, South Carolina will be Spurrier's last coaching job. He'll want to stop and smell the roses (or play a lot of golf) in about 5 years. I saw the Gamecocks play a few games this year and Spurrier seems to have lost the fire in the belly he had in Florida.
Slshusker- Garret had something going for him in Dallas. Philly wasn't getting anywhere fast. Why not take your skill to a franchise in need of it? Plus, say that the Ravens go 7-9, 8-8, or even 9-7 in 2008. That will definitley increase most public thinking about Harbaugh.
