Larry Brown -- crazy neighbor
Jun 23, 2006 | 9:06PM | report this

Now that the Knicks have let Larry Brown go, I have a question for every team seeking a coach.  Do you really want this guy?  I know Larry Brown is a Hall of Fame coach.  I know he's won a champinship and that goes a long way with teams.  But think about this: Larry Brown's last three employers have paid him to go away.  Do you know what that makes him?  That makes him the crazy annoying neighbor you've seen on every sitcom ever made.  He is the guy that shows up at the party uninvited.  Nobody really wants him there and they all wish he would leave but don't have the nerve to ask him.  Inevitably, the guest doesn't get the hint that his company is not wanted and people must find ways to compel him to leave.

Let me put it another way.  Larry Brown is like the hot woman that can't hold a boyfriend because she's completely loony.  You look at her and you think "How can she be without a boyfriend?  She's gorgeous!"  Then you spend five minutes with her and you realize that her baggage is why all those other guys have kicked her to the curb.

I can understand why an organization would want him as a basketball coach.  You don't coach a team to a championship if you don't know what you're doing.  However, I think teams have to look at Larry Brown and wonder if hiring him is a sound business decision.  Who knows, in one or two years, they may be paying him to leave too.  I'll say this.  Larry Brown might as well walk into an interview with a bandana over his face and a gun in his hand because this guy looks more and more like a robber with every new team.

Hit the bricks, jerk
Jan 13, 2006 | 6:32AM | report this

You know, recently it seems that teams are finally coming around when it comes to jerks.  First, the Eagles sat TO down for the rest of the season.  Then there was Ron Artest, who is still mouldering in Indianapolis because nobody wants to take him from the Pacers.  Now, Steve Fancis has been suspended indefinitely, for reasons unbeknownst to me.  the one thing I do know is that his conduct was "detrimental to the team."

But it's not just that these guys get suspended.  It's that teams and players realize they don't want guys like this.  I heard an interview with Kevin Mawae of the Jets the other day and he said he wouldn't want TO on his team.  Think about that .  The J-e-t-s won 4 games this past season.  Four games!  And their players don't want someone with TO's skills.  Oh, I know someone will take a chance on him.  Just like someone will take a chance on Ron Artest, because he'll improve their team.  We all know guys like TO aren't going to change, but it's nice to hear people say that they don't want to be around guys that behave like TO and Artest.
