After a day of backyard barbeque's,drinking some brews, and watching baseball, make sure you come on over to BlogTalkRadio.com and check out this week's All-Star Bloggers Show. This week's All-Star Bloggers show will air at 10::00 pm EST on Wednesday evening.
The guests for this week's show will be..........................
YOU!!!
That's right folks, this week's guests will be the callers that call into the show. In the spirit of Independence Day (coupled with the fact that few folks would commit to doing a show on a holiday), we are turning the entire show over to the callers, many of whom are great bloggers at Fox Sports. Over the past few weeks, I've had trouble getting to all of the callers so for this week we will take a page from the Rush Limbaugh playbook and have "open mike Wednesday."
Got a rant? Share it with us.
Got a question? Share it with me.
Looking for a debate? Bring it on!
I'll give my rant on what's got me worked up in the world of sports and then the phone lines will open!
There are a few things that have ME pissed off in the world of sports this week:
1) Big Papi should not be starting in the 2007 MLB All-Star game. The guy played seven games at 1B and either Youkilis or Morneau should be starting ahead of him. He is NOT a first baseman.
2) Grant Hill is thinking of going to the Suns? The guy makes $93 million from the Magic who stuck with him through a ton of injury plagued seasons and this is how he wants to pay back the fans of Orlando? What a jerk.
3) Yi Gianlin says he wants to be traded from the Bucks. I think he should just shut up and sign with the team that drafted him but I don't think the Bucks did there homework either. Just like when the Magic drafted Rudy Fernandez with the 11th pick a few years back and he opted to stay in Spain, should teams do a bit more homework before they make a draft day blunder?
I will give my take on these issues but I also want to hear what YOU have to say!
Just a few quick things:
1) The show is going to go on at 10:00 pm. This will be our time slot.
2) Promote the show. Mention the upcoming show in your blogs. Maybe
include a link to the show:
3) The call in number is (646) 478-5128. Please don't hesitate to call
in. Part of what makes the show special (and this show in particular) is the interaction with the
callers who bring such a strong dimension to the show. Also, if you
would like to be a guest on the All-Star Bloggers show, please contact
me at Gatordebate@aol.com.
There are so many great bloggers out there and I want to give anyone
that wants to have it, a chance to come on the show. Make no mistake
folks, the show is not about me but about the great guests we have had, we are having and will continue to
have.
This is a show by the bloggers and for the bloggers. I promise to try my
best to not mess it up!
i dont think the bucks trouble with Yi is so much with him as it is with the chinese govt, his handlers, and especially his Nike rep. they dont believe he's marketable in milwaukee, and want him in a city with a greater chinese population. why that matters when he'll be on tv all over the world makes no sense. i also think the bucks knew what they were getting into here (at least i hope so). the owner of the team is senator herb kohl, and he's not exactly dumb when it comes to handling sticky issues. my guess is he either signed off on the selection, or it was his idea in the first place.
do the magic want hill back? if they're signing rashard lewis, like is being reported, i dont think they'll have a spot for him....so it kind of seems to me like they dont want him any more than he wants to go back (and he's considered one of those guys who for whatever reason is more "deserving" to win a title than anyone else who hasnt had the chance to).
i agree 139% about Ortiz. if MLB feels so strongly that DH's need to be part of the all-star game, then put the DH in every year (i'm sure NL teams can find a willing player to go on the ballot as a DH). it wouldnt be any more ridiculous having a DH from the NL who only "played" it 7 times as it is to have a full-time DH voted on at another position...what's worse is the guy who actually plays 1B for the Sox earned at least a look as a reserve.
good luck with the show tonite. you're welcome to use any of my material if it's worthy of mention....just remember to give me credit so the plagerism police dont hunt you down.
Open phones for a whole hour? Is there a better time to test it than tomorrow night? This is a good call. Regardless of the holiday, I hope the turnout is good for you. The show has been flawless thus so far. I'll catch the recap.
Concur with Mr. Showtime, great idea. As long as you don't take this Rush Limbaugh think too seriously . . .
Depending on the # of brews I have in me, I'll try to call. If I seem to ramble, slur, and make little sense, it means I got stuck doing yard work all day and had little time to drink.
Frank...I am going to a party, so can't call in.....but if I bring my cell phone, you had better take my call. (949) area code. I might be a little ditsy from beer, but I have a serious rant about the sports world. By the way, good luck and have a great show. (If you run out of things to talk about, you can luck at Notre Dame's football schedule and the first 8 games...that should be easy to talk about for the first 30 mins)
cuz: Thanks for the material! I do hope the Bucks can work out the Yi situation. I do think the Magic want Hill back so that he can play the 2 spot. He's definitely a better option than Keith Bogans or whoever else is masquerading as a shooting guard.
Mr. Showtime: Thanks for the encouragement. I hope things turn out well tonight!
LGB: Hopefully the show will have its own fireworks :)
Marty: I will take your call in a second!
Rev: Call in and tell us what you think about Grant Hill! Something tells me we will hear from Lisa tonight!
ricko: I assure you the only connection this show has to Rush Limbaugh is the concept of an "open mike" show. I hope you find some shade when it's 117 degrees outside.
Lisa: I'll keep an eye out for a call from the "949". I could probably spend time every show criticizing Notre Dame football!
BTW, I wanted to apologize for not keeping up with my interviews with the guests from your show. I promise I will start that back up again! I love your show and want to do all I can to promote it.
Do me a wee favor? If I am not able to call in, will you please read my piece on Minniefield and talk about what an #### he is and how embarassed we in KY are...or at least I am!! That is if you have the time. Good luck tonight although I am sure you don't need it!!
For some reason I am having a problem listening to the show live :(
i think thats a awesome idea having the callers call in for the show .. i got some things on my mind i like to get out .. watch for the guy in mi calling in frank .. btw i would have been a guest filler if ya needed it :)
My name is Frank Irizarry and I am an Assistant Professor of Communication at Suffolk University in beautiful Beantown. I teach courses in public relations. I am an avid sports fan with football being my true passion. I played two seasons of College Football for Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York (1989-1991). My most rewarding football experience though has come in the past four years as the Head Coach for my oldest son's Pop Warner football team, the Deland Knights. This past season we were 8-1, 6-0 in our Division and we finished in third place in the Mid-Florida Conference (The SEC of youth football!) . I used to be a college debate coach so I like to make and hear what I think are good arguments.
