Kyle vs Junior; AWESOME!
May 05, 2008 | 2:25PM | report this

I love all the discussion and hope to see tempers flare more.

Other than an occasional Stewart-Kurt Busch mix up, NASCAR has been very vanilla-fied since the upper echelon of drivers from the 80's and 90's have left. I like the rivalries and I like to see personalities clash and watch it unfold on the track.

As NASCAR has become more corporate, they have taken some of very thing that made stock car racing great, and that is personality. It was interesting to see Kurt Busch and Stewart get a minor slap on the hand at Daytona when they had an altercation.

Being the corporate people they are, the only react by the cash register. When ratings were down in 2007 for the first time since any of their recent big Network deals, they decided they would have to be looser with their stiff fines and let the personalities come out of drivers just like they used to in the old days.

I don't like that these things were thought up in the board room and manufactured, but I do like the drama because it is real. Kyle gets to say what he wants as does Junior without fear.

The two drivers could be a great attraction, much in the same way that Dale Sr. and Jeff Gordon captured a starving audience in the mid 90's. Earnhardt was a man's man that many could relate to, while Gordon was the California kid that those fans didn't like, but grabbed a whole new audience because he was young and most importantly he won.

Kyle Busch is going to keep winning and the younger fan base will continue to gravitate towards him. He couldn’t possibly obtain an army the size of Junior nation, but it will be fun watching this unfold. People will jump on board Kyle Busch’s wagon and ride it likely to a Championship and multiple wins and also have his back in debates with the Junior nation. The debate will go something like this, “Kyle Busch is a punk”.

And then the Busch fan will say, “Lets go head to head in the last 72 races for each driver; how many has your driver won?”

What's wrong with debating? I love it!

Who doesn't love hearing fans support their teams and/or drivers for any sport. That passion is what makes any particular sports thrive.

I hope to see more!

It would be nice to see them pull a WWE shouting match after the race.

Great piece FB. NASCAR has gotta be loving this. I'm sure this will help sell Darlington out. Should help seel more tix at LMS. You know Humpy knows how to market controversy.

All the blind hatred being spewed is pathetic.
I watched the last half hour of the race and didn't lose sleep over it.

Here are the words of Junior.
"It was just hard racing," Earnhardt said.

Yeah...controversy does generate ticket sales and increased TV ratings. Kyle Busch is certainly generating a lot of it lately. Even if your not a Kyle Busch fan you have to admire his tenanciousness in fighting for the win every race. Doesnt make him popular with the fans...but the main thing is that he's getting the job done for the team.

Thats where the cot took away fans from naSScar now we dont have a DODGE FORD or CAMERY to root for just 43 impalas, In naSScars wisom of not wanting them to get there feelings hurt by not winning evey week they've took something out of the race, the passion to see your brand win not just a decale, or driver. I hope fans stay away till this gets fixed

Hamlin 's Tire went down, he satyed out to bring out a Caution because there was no way Sissy Boy was going to get JR.
It was called in from the top, J.G.
Neither one of those Punk's are smart enough to have pulled that off.
The Coach did it.............

ZSoffroad what race were you watchin didnt have the car are you crazy Kyle was much better than Jr thats why he came down on Kyle just to rattle him and he took himelf out Nobody else to blame. Carl Edwards is the only driver that is even remotely close to Kyle.

Like i said, Sissy Boy would have never been in the possition to even have been up there with JR. unless his other Teammate, intentionally brought out the Caution.

It is great to hear young men use such self control as Dale Jr when commenting after the wreck on the radio. Dale Jr you have earned the respect of all your fans. This is why Jr nation is still growing. Your fans do not agree with what Kyle B. did when he wrecked you that is definite. But their hero stands taller and has gained a lot of respect for his mature way of handling the matter. They can say to their kids there walks a good man!!! That is more important to the sport to have such a hero. Of course, it will sell a lot of
tickets. People will go to the track to see if the actions can be forgiven on the track or if the feud prevails. Good for the sport you bet! This is from a race fan for some 50 odds years. This lady never misses a Sprint or Nationwide race on TV. Long live Nascar.

I couldn't agree with you more SLSHUSKER-RIGHT ON!ZSOFFROAD,I'm embarassed that you think you're an informed Nascar fan. You perpetuate the stereotype of an ignorant ####! Not only are you a complete homer(I am a huge Dale Jr. fan, so there's nothing wrong with anyone pulling for their favorite driver, team, owner, or brand of beer even:) but to be ignorant while doing so makes me want to stick you in a corner with your personalized dunce cap! I do agree with you on one point; I can't stand Kyle, however, that being said, Kyle is loaded with raw DRIVING talent (& oh how I hate to put that in writing, but I've gotta call a it how I see it!) Unfortunately for Kyle, & for Nascar as well, that talent gets lost in the obnoxious stuff that falls out of his pie hole every time he forgets to use those big ears of his to LISTEN INSTEAD OF RUNNING HIS MOUTH 24/7! That is only my opinion though. His potential talent will forever be overshadowed by his juvenile LACK OF PATIENCE; an inflated sense that "THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND KYLE" & his inability to remain even a LITTLE bit HUMBLE in a sport that humbles even the BEST! As long he continues to think that skill alone will get him where he wants to be, then those of us who think he's a punk need not ever worry about him winning anything except a race here and there. A Nascar championship will be forever safe from his grasp as long as he continues to stay seated on what he thinks with, & speaks with what he should be sitting on! GO KYLE!!
