I got excited when I saw Bristol on the schedule for this week and then I remembered just bad the racing was on the re-surfaced concrete. Last seasons fall race was a joke. There was no passing with two drivers combining to lead 487 of the 500 laps.
It in no way looked like a Bristol race, it looked like a Dover race.
Fireball.....the spring race at Bristol is still a good one. This week will be the best race of the season.
The thing that ruined the night race at Bristol is the 'Chase for the Championship'. The guys in the top 12 are points racing to protect their postitions, and their hopes of making the Chase. NASCAR tells the other drivers not to race the top 12 too hard. It has become a joke.
The fall race was great. When before that was the last time you saw side by side lap after lap. Sometimes 3 wide.. Come on. If you are in it for yellows you were disapointed..Sorry to throw a green flag on you crash happy race...
It turned what was a very eventful, dramtic race, into a very vanillafied version of what it was. Just my thoughts on it, doesn't make it right.
I'm not looking for crashes, I'm just looking for hard nose racing with drivers going for the same space. Having multi-grooves like is the case now, takes the premium off real estate on the track and doesn't make the drivers as aggressive because they can take another line. Without the yellow flags, drivers can check out and not be back to the pack and lead every lap and take much of the fun out.
