AL Central: Predictions

  1. Detroit 101-61*
  2. Cleveland 100-62+
  3. Chicago 81-81
  4. Minnesota 69-93
  5. Kansas City 62-100

*Division Winner       +Playoff Qualifyer

Outlook:

As a diehard Detroit Tigers fan for my entire life, it can be assumed I am looking forward to this season. I believe the moves that Dave Dombrowski made during the Winter, really put together a team that should have very few problems getting in the playoffs. Now the bullpen is a bit shaky to begin with. Fernando Rodney and Joel Zumaya are going to start the season on the DL. I expect the Tigers to win the division this season, because it doesn't appear that Cleveland did much to improve themselves. I like the team the Indians have, and they shouldn't be much different from last season, but they are counting on Travis Hafner to have a rebound year. The White Sox should have a much better season this year, or else Ozzie Guillen will be fired. They improved with the trade with the Angels by acquiring Orlando Cabrera in exchange for Jon Garland. They also picked up outfielder Nick Swisher from the A's. Swisher's bat is gonna help the team, but they are kidding themselves if they think he can play centerfield, and they gave up way to much to get him. It looks like Kansas City is getting better, but they really aren't. Gil Meche is not an ace pitcher. It looks like Alex Gordon is ready to play in the majors, but he may be the only bright spot they have this season. Minnesota made a few interesting moves in the offseason, by picking up Delmon Young they are taking a risk, but it should work out in the long run.

Cleveland will win it. Detroit will be around .500.
And the Chisox will will 90+ and get the wild card.

Detroit is terrible I dont see how you could predict them.

That was the most ignorant statement i've seen.

Detroit will be around .500? we were 14 games above last year with tons of injuries, and all we did was add Renteria, Cabrera, Willis, Bautista, Fultz, Cruceta, and Jones.

Plus this is the year everyone realizes that just because Sizemore is the "sexier" (whiter) player, Granderson is the better CF

And for every argument that shows why Cleveland will be better, there is a comeback for Detroit

"Sizemore will fulfill his potential", so will Granderson. "Hafner had a down season", so did Bonderman and Robertson

And Chicago will win 90+? how do you figure? will Thome hit over 60 homeruns, Vasquez wins 25+ games?

It should be more like

#1 Detroit - 98-64
#2 Cleveland - 95-67
#3 Chicago - 75 - 87
#4 Minnesota - 70 - 92
#5 Kansas City - 70 - 92

Well yeah vazquez is a good pitcher but what about contrerous? When he's on his game hes one of the best pitchers in the leaque. The Chisox only weakness is their bullpen. As for Detroit.... its just foolish to say they will win the division.

so are you saying you would rather have a rotation of Vazquez, Contreras, Me, you, and your dad? or Verlander, Bonderman, Robertson, me, and you

and when Bonderman is on his game, he's one of the best in the league.

and since both of our bullpens suck, your position players must be much better than ours right?

If you compare them.....
1B - Konerko or Guillen. Konerko hits more homers in the middle school ballpark you call Cingular Field, but Guillen hits for higher average and more RBIs
2B - Ramirez or Polanco. Polanco is the best defensive second basemen in the game (his streak of errorless games is at 181 in a row) and Ramirez is a wild card, havn't seen him face American pitchers.
SS - Cabrera or Renteria. Cabrera gets the nod because of his defense and his above average bat.
3B - Cabrera or Crede. Way too easy. Cabrera all the way
LF - Quentin or Jones/Thames. I don't know enough about Quentin, but Thames hit 1 homerun evry 14 AB and Jones is poised for a comeback season
CF - Granderson or Swisher. Swisher will hit more home runs but Granderson will steal more bases, hit more doubles and triples, and bat for a higher average.
RF - Dye or Ordonez. Ordonez gets the nod, for average and RBIs but Dye is poised for a comeback of his own.

So saying the White sox win 90+, let alone more than the Tigers, is just ignorant

Tigers fan Have you fogotten about Buehrle, and Sox have improved their bullpen and still have the best closer. Owens will be playing center, with speed, and Swisher in left. The bats will not stay as quiet as last year, No proud predictions here, but don't count the Sox out of ant type of contention.

Tigers fans are being way too optimistic. They will choke like in the world series and last year.

Sorry Tigers fans, but pitching wins games, and titles. Detroit may have the power hitting and one good arm for pitching, but with Two studs that could once again contend for Cy Young, Sabathia and Carmona will bring a World Series title finally to Cleveland

I think now I was being generous when I said the tigers were bad. Because they are horrible. Right now they are without a doubt the worst team in The Al central.
