Is there anyone else out there, besides me, tired of players making guarantee's? My guess is, yes. I'm sure that by now, mostly everyone has heard about the guarantee made by Steelers, second year safety Anthony Smith. For those of you that didn't, he guaranteed that the Steelers would beat the 12-0 New England Patriots on Sunday. You know what I thought when I heard this? The first thing was, not another guarantee! Then I thought, is this guy an ####? Then I thought even more about it, and said WHO? Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, Willie Parker, Hines Ward, James Farrior, anyone really, but Anthony Smith? Steelers rookie head coach Mike Tomlin, thought it was a silly statement, and was agravated by it. Veterans actually found the comment somewhat amusing, including 11th year linebacker James Farrior. "He better keep his mouth shut," Farrior said as he laughed. "Oh well, I guess we've got to go deal with that." I just kind of find it bothersome, when players make guarantees, or as its became known around here "Guaransheed" in honor of Detroit Pistons center Rasheed Wallace. Whenever Wallace makes a prediction that comes true, it can be known as a Guaransheed. In the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals, Wallace predicted that the Pistons would win game 2, after falling behind. Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna, has come under pressure this season after he made a statement that said the Lions should win 10 games. That was in the preseason and he wanted to get the team fired up, I don't blame him for that. I still wish that the Lions could win at least 2 more games to finish 8-8.
Of course you are right, but I am also sick of all the players saying the right thing instead of what they really feel! I miss Joey Porter, he would and has said the same thing. how do we know it wasnt what everyone wanted to say, but Smith just drew the short straw!
GOOD START KID
BUT YOU BETTER GET USED TO IT . LIFE IS FULL OF DUMB PEOPLE. YOU FORGOT CHAD JOHNSON,TERRELL OWENS.DO YOU HAVE POPCORN READY FOR A 2-3 HOUR GAME?I FIND THESE PEOPLE TO BE INSECURE. PITT IS HAVING A GOOD SEASON THRES NO REASON TO MAKE A GARUNTEE AGAINST A TEAM , OR THAT YOU WILL HOMER.
IF PITT PLAYS THESE GUYS IN THE PLAYOFFS , AND THEY ARE TRYING TO SCHYIC EACHOTHER OUT THATS ONE THING. BUT OTHERWISE YOUR SETTING YOURSELVE UP FOR A FALL.I HEARD KITNA IS DEEPLY RELIGIOS , AND HE HASNT HAD A BAD SEASON.THINK ABOUT HOW HIS SEASON WOULDA LOOKED HAD HE NOT HAD TO MUCH PRIDE..
I enjoy guarantees. Why? Because I like seeing prima donna players ending up eating their words...It was cool when Namath did...And it was cool when Ali "shook up the World"....Now, every big game comes with a "guarantee" and every victory is a "world shaker"....So over played...Seeing the bubble burst is kind of fun for me.
Actually I look at Anthony's comments in a different light. Why? Well his comments show that he has confidence and he is not afraid to lay the smack down on the Patriots. Personally I believe many teams in the past are intimidated by the Pats. So far every team that has shown no fear nearly beat the Pats.(Ravens, Philly). I understand people are upset for his "guarantee", however you cannot fault him for having CONFIDENCE and No Fear, something most players in this league lack when up aganist the Pats.
It reminds me when some random sports analyst said, players are star-struck by Brady or Moss. They think to themselves.. "Omg im going up aganist brady and moss this is going to be hard". I think its a mental thing, forget all that nonsense about the pats being a bunch of "cyborgs" or "superhuman". Screw that they are a bunch of humans who make mistakes like everyone else, they can be beaten. I guess thats why I like Anthony's comments. But you know if the Steelers lose then Smith will feel a little "salty".

Please don't reference the loser Lions in the same breath with the Pistons...two completely different franchises. The Pistons have a record to make guarantees...the Lions have a record to shut up and hope for the next win.
Have you seen the season that Terrell Owens is having in Dallas? You must not be watching the games. W/O the oppressive hand of Bill Parcels smothering the offensive talent in Dallas -- TO is back where his talent suggests he should be. It's obvious you don't watch the games and want to over generalize based on stupid assumptions.
HEY JACK
YOU DISAGREE WITH EVERYONE BUT YET YOU SINGLE ME OUT BECAUSE I MENTIONED THAT BOY. CLEARLEY YOU DONT REALIZE HE LEADS THE LEAGUE IN DROPPED PASSES , AND IF HE WERE IN COLLEGE HE WOULD LEAD AFTER 11 GAMES AS WELL. PARCELLS SHOULD HAVE MADE TERRELL A BETTER PLAYER INSTEAD HE FOLDED UNDER THE FACT HE COULDNT TELL HIS DUMB SMILING QB WHAT TO DO BUT NOW HE CAN.IF YOU WOULD LIKE A TEST OF CHARECTER EMAIL ME OR REPLY THE POST IS SET TO NOTIFY ME WHEN PEOPLE LIKE YOU MAKE STUPID COMMENTS.I TRAVEL A LOT SO IM SURE I CAN STOP BY AND WE CAN PLAY A GAME OF (I KICK YOUR SUICIDE OVERDOSE LOVING ...) REPEAT AFTER ME IT WAS AN ACCIDENT . MY UNSURE HAND DROPPED TO MANY PILLS IN MY OVERSIZED MOUTH.####!!! I LIKE YOUR OPINION TICK YOU WILL BE A GREAT WRITER.
Thanks everyone, for the comments! As for jacklhplo, I appreciate your opinion, but please keep in mind that I am both a Lions and Pistons fan. So I definetly don't want to see people talk bad about the Lions on my blog.
If you cant guarentee a win I dont want you on my team.
I love "GuarenSHEED" and I believe that Kitnas guarentee was a bit much but as a Lions fan for my whole life I was finally happy someone was willing to stick their neck on the line! It is disapointing when you don't come through, but for your team and the fans... A guarentee isn't always so bad.
It motivates brings attention and boldly says "I will give 110%, we understand just how important this game is!"
Some players need that and thats fine by me!
As for my Lions, no disapoinment....
8-8 "Guarenteed!" well umm ahh... LOL
Lets say thats just what I want for Christmas, I will leave those guarentees to the athletes I enjoy cheering for!
