Super Bowl Stories
Feb 06, 2006 | 4:11PM | Toronto | report this
We've had two FOXSports writers covering the Super Bowl--Adam Schein and Peter Schrager.

They've got some really good behind-the-scenes stories from their time in Detroit.

Here's a great story from a party that Schrager was at:
Highlight of the night came toward the end. Someone came up to me with what I thought was some major league dirt. “Yo, that’s Bryce Fisher of the Seahawks.” In my head, I'm thinking that I may have to break the "Eugene Robinson" story of Super Bowl XL. I was upset to hear the news. Holmgren's had these guys do disciplined all week, what a shame this would be. And from what I gathered, Fisher was one of the good guys of the league.

I checked it out. Over on the side was a guy 180 pounds tops, sipping on a bottle of water. Hmm ... Bryce Fisher, eh?

I found it odd for three reasons. A) It was the night before the Super Bowl and he had a game the next morning; B) the guy looked 40-years-old. Bryce Fisher is 29; C) Faux-Fisher was 200 pounds max. I’ve met Bryce Fisher. He’s a 272-pound defensive end.

The whole thing was weird.

Sure enough, the guy was shaking hands, being told “Good luck,” and using words like “focused” to describe his mindset.
Chris Hetherington

Then it all hit the fan. I’d been talking to San Francisco 49ers fullback Chris Hetherington for the greater part of the evening. Hetherington’s one of the cooler guys in the NFL. He went to Yale, has played on a myriad of teams, and has seen it all. He also looks like a cross between Hulk Hogan and Chris Jericho. The two of us were talking about Connecticut high school football for about five minutes, when a young man in a suit interrupted us.

Suit: “Chris, meet Bryce Fisher.”
Hetherington: “Huh?”
Fake Bryce Fisher: “What’s up man.”
Hetherington: “You want me to embarrass you, man?”
Fake Bryce Fisher: (Stepping back) “Okay ...”
Hetherington: “Get out of here.”

Hetherington turns to me, “Bryce Fisher and I were teammates in St. Louis. He lived on my couch for two weeks. That’s not Bryce Fisher.”
And here's Another great story from watching a Cold Pizza taping:
I entered the building during a “Cold Pizza” segment where producers encouraged fans to cheer loudly after host Dana Jacobsen and Matt Leinart did some sort of box step dance. I stuck around and watched the piece. At the very end of it, I witnessed this exchange:

Jacobsen (to Leinart): "If you’ve ever watched this show, you know I’m a terrible dancer."

Random Steelers Fan in a Tommy Maddox jersey, mullet, and mustache behind me at the top of his lungs: “Don’t worry honey -- no one’s ever (expletive) watched this (expletive) show!”
You can read all about their adventures on Schein's blog, and on Schrager's blog.

Do you guys have any good Super Bowl stories to share?

Talk about self promotion..LOL, what's wrong Toronto, not enough people making it to Schein and Schrager's blog on their own. I found nothing insightful in either guy's stories, just talking about how they got to meet all these sports guys, but nothing to add to the Super Bowl.

I've been involved in football for over 40 years, as a coach, player, game ref(high school), and lastly as a viewer of the Packers and Vikings. At no time in my life have I been so upset with the outcome o####ame.I tell myself that they just got outplayed by the other team. The Seahawks know that they had the game taken from them and so do so many people all over the world, but yet have to keep their mouth shut so they don't give their Super Bowl earning back to the NFL. As a referee, you can order a Magazine which keeps track of home wins vs losses when a certain person does the game besides other valuable articles. OH, I'm sorry, That Comment should not be published because people who gamble will begin placing orders. Who cares!! This came was fixed anyway. Changes will be made behind closed doors and you can quote me on that. Enjoy the win Pittsburgh and Seattle keep your heads high.Lastly, I had NO MONEY ON THIS GAME, NOT ONE CENT! Anyone want to buy my season tickets for the Viks?

I wish at least one team had only real gorillas as players and dressed in all black uniforms - but only if when they scored a touchdown, the #### wouldn't dance and jive like a human player does!

This Superbowl smells of the biggest point shave in sports history. The outcome was simular to the George Bush/ Al Gore presidential run with the"tainted" Supreme Court helping with the outcome. All due respect to the Pittsburg Steelers (being the new winners of the Vince Lombardi trophy) as person, and fellow human being, I would feel ashamed and empty inside "if" I were in the knowledge of how the officiating changed the momentum and dynamics of the Superbowl in their favor. The end result was at the expense of the Seahawk players, Organization, their season-ticket-holding fans, Seattle fans at large (Greater Seattle Area) and the rest around the World. I was so hurt ( mentally and physically) that I could not get angry. Yet the poor officiating, and it's frustrating affects (on the Seahawks) made me so sick I could not sleep well that night. As for the Pittsburg Steelers, I only watched the end showing Cower's winning smile, before changing the channel. Yet I found it amazing with myself that I felt no anger to the team that walked away with the Championship Trophy. To me the Steelers were awarded the prize, and Seattle gained the respect of public opinion. Hobdy29

What is up with the blogging MPB? My last 5 posts have been way up there in numbers, but not one have made it to the most popular blog status while some guys post on gretzky with 2 comments has been there for 24 hours. My Olympic post has 14 comments and my one on Terrorism in Sports has 141. What is up?

I have to concur with the Steelers fan, I haven't watched "Cold Pizza" either. I think it's a sports show geared towards women. Sounds like a recipe for failure.

Maybe I'm nobody really, but flatulence stories are lame. Ususally. Did I read those right? Maybe I'm off here.
Oh, yes, I am. that was Tyra Banks today.
But these stories were ---ehhh.

Hey, is there any way you guys at Fox can get rid of the people who don't post about sports. These blogs are supposed to be about sports and I am seeing blogs that don't have anything to do about sports. I believe that only those of us who want to talk about sports should get blogs. If you guys can look into this I would appreciate this.

Go easy SoCal, they recognize the fact you need to be read...and they are weary of it! By the way, when someone gets comments, why is there comment/rebuttle acting as if it counts in the Most Popular area, you have some people that are just chomping at the bit to post/read/rubut/read/rebut/read/arg
ue/rebut..you get the idea! I mean, do all journalists need to give anwsers if people don't agree. Maybe the FOXBlog team, sees a pattern of 5-10 bloggers that dictate, so to speak, what seams to be popular just from the fact that they anwser each other like its a telephone conversation. My thought would be if those folks have that much to say, give your E-mail and chat all day for all I care, but, the silly one liners back and forth, yes I have done it too, gets tiresome. Maybe FOX is trying to reshape how their Blog site gets used!

Wow! This is intense. Very high maintenance blog standards to achieve...
In a perfect world, we would all be kings for a day. Or maybe a month.

We all know the NFL zebra's screwed up a good game. The Seahawks were denied a touchdown when the holding "flag" was thrown and they lost a TD on the "interference" in the end zone. Pittsburgh may have gotten a td through rushing after disallowing the first one, as they should have, but Seattle denied one team four tries at the end zone and may have prevailed here. I think the score was 31-21 Seattle.

If you stop putting stuff that lets people know who is going to win the super bowl maybe we can enjoy the super bowl and have a good game but you people let ever one know who going to win buy the stuff we whatch on the tube. I think it is wrong. Just what a good game and don't care what you think. If you got money on the game thats on you. keep it to you self. A good game is all I what the ads that tell me who is going to win because they say so. I like a great game with out the bull stuff in between. A super bowl is about the best and not the money so stop trying .
