Last night Ken Griffey Jr. knocked the 600th home run of his career, is this a harbinger of great things for the Juniors of this world? This coming Sunday is Father’s Day, are the stars lining up? What could be more fitting than to do something fantastic on Father’s Day when your name is followed by the term Junior? Ken Griffey Jr. has set the pace… Who are the other Juniors that could do their Dads proud this week?
There are many in baseball, but since Ken Griffey Jr. has already stepped up, we’ll concede baseball to him.
The NBA Finals are on the schedule, but neither the Celtics nor the Lakers have any Juniors on their rosters… Whats up with that?
The U.S. Open is on this week. I suppose many look at the game of golf as an uppity endeavor and based on the fact that I couldn’t find a single “Junior” in the field, this may be an indication. The fact that there are two with the “III” at the end of their names goes a long way toward reinforcing that uppity moniker… The two “high brows” are Davis Love III and Charles Howell III, well la-de-dah… Personally, I grew up with a guy who had the “III” behind his name and if he was any indication, then the uppity thing works… Remember the old MASH sitcom with Major Charles Winchester III? Now that’s uppity personified…
Davis Love III and Charles Howell III
So that boils the week’s sporting events on this Father’s Day week down to racing. No, the Formula cars and the Indy cars will be idle this week. NASCAR will be on the docket with the Trucks and Sprint Cup cars running Friday and Sunday at Michigan International Speedway (the Cool City Customs 200 and the LifeLock.com 400, respectively) and the Nationwide cars will be running Saturday at Kentucky Speedway in the Meijer 300.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
There will be two Juniors trying to qualify for the Truck race as Ron Hornaday Jr. and Scott Lagrasse Jr. are among the drivers there. There is only one Junior trying to qualify for the Nationwide field in Kentucky. Bobby Hamilton Jr. will be looking for a top finish there. That leaves us looking at the Sprint Cup LifeLock.com 400 on Sunday. There will potentially be three Juniors in this field as Martin Truex Jr., Sam Hornish Jr. and finally, Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be in the qualifying.
Ron Hornaday Jr. and Sam Hornish Jr.
Martin Truex Jr. and Bobby Hamilton Jr.
So which of these racing Juniors is the most likely to once again bring glory to the name he proudly wears?
After looking at their histories on the tracks being run and with careful consideration into who is due to win, I’ve got to believe that Dale Earnhardt Jr. is the most likely to win in their respective races this weekend…
To all you fathers out there, have a Happy Father’s Day, and may the best Junior win!
Great post Dwindy. Would be good to see Jr. win this weekend...especially since I'll be in Michigan to see the race. Would be way cool to see Sam Hornish win...but not very likely in the Cup car.
Maybe if Dale wins it will relieve all the pressure not only on him but on all his fans... Things can get back to normal... Ya know he's going to win, it's just a question of when...

I don't know that Dale Jr'll be up to doing much . But one can live in hope.
And as for the US Open seeing how as Davis Love and Howell haven't done anything of merit in quite a while. I don't expect either of 'em to be doing anything special at Torrey Pines that's unless both Mickelson and Woods should suddenly end up with food poisoning.
What better way for a Father and Son to show their love for one another ?
I don't know nothing about Ball Sports and I could not play golf because the ball is too small for me to see it.
Now for all the Jr.s in racing. Which one??
Have a good Fathers Day.

He's the one guy who've all seen play the game the right way. And what's great about this is that there's never been a hint of controversy surrounding his name .....not one bit at all !
It's a pity that it takes someone of his pedigree and character for us to remember how the game ought to be played and appreciated at the same time.
Whereas before we couldn't say that of the last two players that've achieved the same feat in feat in Bonds and Sosa .
I was a Mariner fan when Junior played there. When it came time to sign a new contract the Kid was offered more to stay in Seattle than what the Reds were offering. He wanted to play in front of his home town crowds and took less money to do it...
Enough said?
Just like Willie Mays having to play in San Francisco's cold and windy Candlestick Park, Ken Griffey Jr. has left us another what if. He missed around 450 games in his career to injury. If he had been healthy, would we be seeing him challenge for the most home runs in a career? I believe we would, and what a great guy to have doing it...

I see that things are getting worse by the minute for Dontrelle Willis. Sent down to the Tigers' single A affiliate. How the once mighty have fallen ?
And what of The Rocket now having tablets of Viag*ara in his lockers ? Leads me to believe that when they say they're rubbing themselves to feel better they really do mean it !
I love this game ! Here's my split finger fastball for all to see.

I've never heard so much cr*ap as I'm hearing my girlfriend saying that Cindy Margolis the most downloaded female on the net can't find herself a man.
If I weren't in a relationship I'd be knockin' on that door for sure.
Did you ever partake of Cricket? I wouldn't have a clue how to play that game...
Dontrelle grew up playing backyard baseball with his buddies. Each took turns pitching and they would go through all these contortions in their wind up to throw off the batter... That is how he came up with that unorthodox style. Now I'm wondering if it is going to be his downfall...

I played cricket in high school the origins of the game came via the Caribbean. It was then reorganized and played with a set of rules in England.
Now it's primarily played by countries that were part of the British Commonwealth as well as one or two countries in the Caribbean , North America and the Far East.

As to Margolis I believe that she's got more money than you or I'll ever see in a lifetime.
So it's my belief that all she's after is a bit of tender TLC of a real manly nature !
I thought you might have played that game... I believe it is the forerunner to our baseball.
There was a family from Southern California that was BIG in agriculture and real estate by the name of Margolis or darn similar... Wonder if she is related?
This weekend I think you're going to have a Hendrick car win at Michigan, either that or a Roush car. Both these teams were strong at Cali earlier this year, and these two tracks are very similar.
Hoping that it's Gordon, even if he does have the dead weight that is Letarte, lol.
As far as the golf goes, I know almost nothing about it, but 99 times out of 100 I'm going to be right when I say nobody has anything for Woods, even with that knee.

Got your short track car ready to roll this weekend? I think I'm going to be ready for you!
You should get into golf... That's a great sport that you can play the rest of your life and it's you against the world. There is no body to blame but yourself (a lesson Jeff should have learned by now. lol).
Hope your Dad is going to be around this weekend. Let him know you care about him... I'm thinking you already know that but I'm just sayin... Okay?
It would be cool for Jr to win this Sunday for sure...hard though on him not to have his dad there to celebrate with him. I am happy Mr. Hendrick has filled that role a little...
howdy dwindy....well heres one Junior hoping that another Junior DOES win @ Michigan....Go Dale ( i heard Kyle Busch will be in the #81 sometime during the race..) lol Heres hoping for a happy and safe fathers day for us ALL!!
Good to see Griffey hitting such an improbable milestone considering how injury plagued his career has been.
It had been so long since his name was relevant in the media it was easy to forget how much he dominated the game in his early years when he was healthy.
As much as I am bored with MLB during the regular season, right now it is certainly the sport with the most 'feel good' stories this season. A good rebound from the Roger Clemens and steroid saga.
I understand that AMP is good for a hangover... That's one thing about the 88, you never know if it's flying inverted... It would be most appropriate to have a Jr. win at Michigan!
Ken Griffey Jr. is one of those that will always be remembered for what could have been. I've heard speculation that he wants to play 3 more seasons... That better be in the AL. It's not inconceivable for him to end up close to 700 homers... He missed over 450 games since joining the Reds. He could have been close to 800 homers without some illegal stimulus...
There are a lot of Jr's in Nascar but only one that we know simply as Jr today and it would be so very wonderful if this could be the day that he finally gets to bring it home to Victory Lane! Go and get it done JR!
and HAPPY FATHERS DAY to All the DADs out there!
Isnn't Kyle Busch a jr? He must be since he's winning Sunday.
You're one of the funny ones on this blog so I'll ask you this.
My Latest blog is about who you would like to see fight each other. Tophatal wants to see Mike Tyson fight Chuck Norris. I want to see Pacman Jones vs Jet Li. and Slshusker wants to jello wrestle me for 10.00 on pay per view (Like he would get more than 1.00 out of the 10.00) LOL.
