This weekend marks a time when we need to bow our heads and say a prayer of thanks to all those who have served in our country's armed forces. They have made our way of life what it is and it's time to remember them for it, if only for a little while. My family has had members wearing the uniform in every major conflict our country has suffered through since the Civil War and I'm sure most of you can say the same. It is one of the greatest, most unselfish things a person can do. We shall never forget...

This weekend is also the biggest one in auto racing as the Monaco Grand Prix will be run early Sunday at 8:00 AM EDT. The Indianapolis 500 will take the green flag at 1:10 PM EDT. At the end of a long day of racing the Coca Cola 600 will start about 5:45 PM EDT Sunday evening… If you want to play I'll need which drivers you think will win each race. If you select a driver that's already taken there will be a five point penalty so pay attention to who has been taken!

Monaco Grand Prix!
Indianapolis Motor Speedway!
Coca Cola 600 - Night racing at Lowes!
So there are your three races. We’ll follow the same rules we’re all familiar with. I’ll need your picks in before 8:00 AM EDT Sunday…
Good luck!

Note: I didn’t see William’s usual Trifecta last week so I went ahead on short notice last Friday afternoon and put one together. There wasn’t enough time to get a big field of competitors together, but I think we all had a good time… SpeedBeagle won going away with Big Brown setting the pace.
BTW ... I could almost hear you singing our national anthem while writing this. Great tribute, Dman.
Yes, I've had military in my family since the Revolutionary War. It is an honor to live in this free country. Thank you ALL who sacrifice so we may live and die free.
Ahhh..U.S.A. #1
Ok trifecta... Hamilton = F1
Patrick = INDY
Vickers = NASCAR
Yea I have a couple long shots...But Brian and the #83 team last year was good here. And as for this year, Brian has put the Red Bull team on the map.
I was checking RELIGIOUSLY for the post, saw your trifecta post asking where Will was, and didn't check this post again.
THIS IS MY RACE DAMMIT, EVEN MY DARKHORSE HAS BEEN PICKED.
The Granddaddy of all Auto Races: Scott Dixon
The Pretender to the Throne, Which should sit in shame as it continues to schedule itself so no driver can race in both events: Tony Stewart (there has to be an Indy connection here, and I know he'd rather win the 500 - and hope he will some day soon - although he'd have to lose a good 30 to 40 pounds).
F1 - Lewis in a runaway.

Uh, Dave, it WAS possible until TG moved the race start back and made it impossible, 'member? At this point, if they want to get every driver they can into the 500 they ought to acknowledge that the are a distant #2 in the pecking order and move the 500 to make it happen. Which would be awesome, btw.
F1: Nick Heidfeld
Indy 500: Sam HornishDario How about Graham Rahal, then.
NASCAR: Denny Hamlin
Dwindy thnx for hosting. this marks the 1 year anniversary of the trifecta. i have had a bad stretch of luck here though and thus have not been blogging much lately. i hope you will still let me play.

In what pecking order is the Indy 500 a distant second to ANY race at ANY date/time?
C'mon, Dave. Let's be real. When you're last two champions are driving for middle-tier (at best) teams in NASCAR, you ARE a distant second to NASCAR. I'm not saying I LIKE it, but that's how it IS.
The first step to dealing with a problem is admitting you have one, right? TG should openly admit he's trying to get the "best drivers" all to Indy by making qualifying and the race more accessible to the guys who would do both, is all I'm saying.
my ten cents (can't have 2 since NZ's lowest coin is a 10c one, lol) in no particular order; Indy 500, Monaco GP, Le Mans 24 hours, Monza GP, Daytona 500, Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast Indy, Monaco WRC, Belgian GP...Coke 600 just squeezes into my top 10 list of the most anticipated motorsport races of the year behind those 9, lol

If THAT's what we're talking about, then yes, it would take a large variety of world events for Indy to not be #1 in THAT regard. That's not what I was talking about.
Dwindy 1
If I can catch the Monaco Grand Prix then that'll be the highlight of the weekend for me.
Having attended the race itself on three occasions I can tell you it's something special to watch in person. Racing around that road course and through the principality of Monte Carlo is definitely something else !
As to the Indy 500 it goes without saying the history behind that venerable race speaks for itself.
Hopefully all of the races will be competitive ones.
maybe I should just stick to your stats, I can usually understand those, lol
LOL. No - here's what I was saying. Dave blamed NASCAR's scheduling of the 600 as the reason why drivers can't do the double, but really they put the lights at Lowes and made it possible for the double to even be attempted. Tony George moved the Indy 500 time back and made the double an impossible task - but that's not NASCAR's fault at all. And I was saying that IF TG wanted NASCAR drivers in the 500, he'd better more the 500 because NASCAR is the big dog, even compared to the Indy 500.
However, I can't watch the World 600. The 500 is SO MUCH better. After the 500, watching the 600 is like watching paint dry, so I usually just catch the end. I DEFINITELY wasn't trying to make an issue of personal preference.
Just because the 500 is so much older doesn't automatically mean it is still #1. If being older was all it took, the Stanley Cup would be the most prestigious trophy in sports.
dwindy, i'm not seein' your picks... usually your first eh.
jjd- i'll be interested to see if trulli can do better than your massa with penalty pick
my most anticipated cup race of the year is the 600, but over all i look forward to seeing super dirt week at the ny state fairgrounds

Dwindy
Hamilton in the Monaco GP
Rahal in the Indy 500 if he can get off to a fast start.
And Kyle Busch 'cause he's as hot as they come at the moment.
You've clearly created something highly valued here. Even when you're not able to make it for a given week, others "got your back" and step-in to make it happen.
