Anybody need a ball carrier? I've gotta believe you can have him pretty cheap... The Seattle Seahawks' love affair with Shaun Alexander ended today with his unconditional release.
This is a side of the NFL that seems ugly to some, but it is the reality of this "what have you done for me lately" league. In just two short, injury-plagued years, Shaun fell from the heights of being the league's most valuable player and an appearance on the Madden Football computer game cover to unceremoniously being quietly released. The timing of this release should be good for Alexander as teams contemplating drafting a running back late in the draft might consider him worth a chance. Shaun claims that he still wants to play and that he's finally healed up. He says he's ready to re-establish himself as an elite runner and his passing today's physical will attest to that, but the question remains: Is there still a fire within this man to achieve some semblence of his former self? Will we see him sign on with another team and perform at a high level? Only time will tell.
Shaun, you're a good man, here's wishing you and your family well...
I miss him already Dwindy, I hope he calls it quits and retires as a 'hawk. He deserves his own spot on the ring of honor, and will be a HOF player. Only 7 other players have scored 100 rushing TDs.
That said, is that his wife?!?!
Shaun is a short guy and she makes him look tall, what is she like 4ft9 or something?
Dwindy1...I see Alexander signing with another team. Maybe the Bears or Packers. He should go somewhere with an established line, and combine with a starter and make a good 1-2 punch rushing attack.
I'm hearing that Shaun will try to stay in the league and it sounds like there are a few teams interested... I've just heard Indianapolis and that makes good sense, doesn't it? He'd be a good second back there...
D-Man...I've never been an Alexander fan. He should still be able to help some team out. He hasn't taken much of a beating during his career. All that running out of bounds saved a lot of wear and tear on him.
It's funny how some players' skill slowly diminish and then others just fall off the table. I think Alexander prospered behind a good O-line. If he lights with a team that has one, he might do fairly well again. I'm just glad the Hawks are moving on. It about killed me last year to watch Shaun run to the sidelines when they needed four or five yards out of him...
Does anyone else see what Alexander is missing? Steve Hutchinson. It's funny how Alexander went from MVP to average and Peterson was able to take off so quickly. Looks like the big guy up front really is earning his paycheck.
Seems the Vikes are making a habit of driving up the NFL pay scale... I know they're trying to influence the Twin Cities to cough up a new stadium... Wonder if it will all be worth it when we witness the first labor impasse in over 20 years of NFL action in 2010...
