6-1 doesn't explain it. Are the Cowboys a Super Bowl caliber team? The best of a weak NFC? A trick of the light?
Don't ask me. I've watched all but one game and I'm still not sure.
Start with Romo. Most people do. Guts, mobility, and a strong arm. Romo has them. And he easily could have five more interceptions already. Sometimes he floats the ball, and recently he's dropped down enough to get a good number of tips. Good enough to be the second best quarterback this season, but good enough to take those risks and still run the boards in the playoffs? I just don't know.
The tools are there for Romo to work with. Jason Witten, Terrell Owens, Patrick Crayton, Marion Barber, Julius Jones. But the Patriots took Witten out of the game and ground the offense to a halt. New coordinator Jason Garrett sometimes voluntarily shuts down Dallas' running game, despite having an offensive line any NFL back would be glad to run behind. Can Dallas keep scoring thirty points a game the second time through the NFC East?
If teams learn to take Witten out of the mix, will T.O. keep his head and body together and take advantage of better matchups? If Glenn doesn't come back will Dallas develop an alternate deep threat? Then again, it may not matter. Dallas has adjusted to anything thrown at them defensively, even by New England.
Two areas you don't have to question are the offensive line and special teams. This is the best Dallas line since the Super Bowl days and may even get better as they work together longer. Nick Folk is the kicker Dallas thought it paid for last year in Mike Vanderjagt. A rookie with the nerves of a veteran. And Mat McBriar is the best NFL punter since Ray Guy.
All these questions pale next to the ones of the defensive side of the ball.
The 3-4. Or, should I say the 3-4? Coming into the season we were told it was a different 3-4 than Bill Parcells ran. Wade Phillips' version was supposed to disrupt instead of contain. Meet the new scheme, same as the old scheme. Two sacks a game and Tom Brady looking as pressured as a father playing catch with his son in the back yard.
Against the run, this is a defensive line which will play well against weak lines and backfields and much less so against strong ones. It is not a sure fire run stop defense, and is one injury away from very shaky ground. Tank Johnson won't change that.
What was that about Roy Williams being "set free" under the new scheme. Free to cheat towards the run, free to go after the quarterback, free to justify a $25 million contract extension. Who is that guy trailing behind those receivers on deep touchdown passes? Who is that arm tackler? This one the jury should not be out on. Roy "Ordinary" Williams is just another safety. At best.
Then again, this is the defense that got its back up and saved the day in Buffalo. That shut down the Bears and Rams, and held the Vikings in check today. Maybe this is a defense better than the sum of it's parts, one that will get better as Greg Ellis gets stronger, Terence Newman literally more sure footed, and Anthony Henry healthy. The best may be yet to come.
Still, you wonder. This is a defense that occasionally can't get off the field. There were times today when the Vikings ran at will for large chunks of yardage, even though they had no passing game to set up the run.
Where does that leave the Cowboys? A little ahead of the Giants. Maybe behind Washington if the Redskins develop anything resembling an offense. And miles ahead of the rest of the NFC.
Brave predictions? There is too much talent not to win the conference. Too much to lose in the first round? But after that, what?
As of October 21, this is not a Super Bowl team. Not yet. But it could be. We'll know in four weeks. After the bye week, Dallas has Philadelphia, Washington, and New York. How the Cowboys play the Redskins and Giants will answer most questions.
Maybe the biggest question of all is this. How much is heart worth? This Cowboy team has more of it than the corporate Patriots and the unsteady Giants, more than any Dallas team in years. If heart counts throw all the questions out the window. If it doesn't, this is a team a year away from challenging New England.
I've watched all the Cowboys games. Last week against he Pats, the team played very poorly. The defense was in disarray. Brady picked them apart. Earlier this year, I identified RWilliams as a passing liability and as "trailing on the play is Roy Williams." Roy can't cover a decent receiver. We see it and so do other teams. When I said it, I was shouted down, called a racist(keystrokes show skin tint?) and given everything short of death threats from a few fools.
Husker-All you did was point out the obvious. If you see a pass play of 20 yards or more against Dallas it will usually be to Williams side and he'll be running along behind the player making the TD.
I know Williams hits and is an asset against the run, but the more basic point is that it doesn't make sense to spend $25 million on, of all things, a safety. Any safety.
I think when you have the heart like the Cowboys do this year, you are going to be in every game to the end. The question is then why weren't they in the NE game? The answer is simple. So simple that noone has mentioned it. I also realizes this opens up questions about professionalism and being ready to play any time, BUT... HERE GOES... After the emotional wrenching, digging down deep in the heart, laying it out on the line game at Buffalo (truly a trap game), they simply did not have enough left in their tanks to finish the final quarter and a half to hang with the Pats. i think this will also be a factor during the Thanksgiving Season games too. I am not saying that it is unfair, I am simply saying emotional games are draining and they were tapped after playing Buffalo. Dallas is not an all business team like the Pats. I do believe that if both teams were rested for the same amount of time (yeah speculative I know) you would see a little different game.
My opinion: I do think Dallas will go to the Super Bowl, but as you mentioned the next three games will tell us much more: AT Philly... although their record is not good it is ALWAYS a tough place to play and they are ALWAYS motivated against Dallas more than against any other team. Washington is overachieving, I think, and Dallas should win this game at home. However, Washington has pulled a couple of wins out of the hat against Dallas recently that the Cowboys had won for all intents and purposes. The Giants IN NY... they will be motivated to avenge the opening night loss and they are really playing well right now. This one scares me more than any other on the schedule right now.
I do have to disagree with a couple of your comments, though. Were you watching the same Cowboys/Patriots game that I was? LOL The Cowboys got lots of pressure on Brady in the first half. Note that the Cowboys sacked him as much in the first half as he had been sacked in the first five full games, once directly creating a touchdown. It looked to me like the Patriots just did a good job of adjusting their blocking scheme at halftime and we didn't adjust to their adjustments. And the defense does do a good job overall of stopping the run. One gets through from time to time and I yell at them through the TV pretty loudly :D but I would bet that the percentage of plays being stopped for two yards or less is in the top 5 in the NFL.

Also, Romo might could have more interceptions, but he could have many more favorable stats if not for dropped balls AGAIN! Owens has his share of drops as always and Crayton has dropped some including one in the end zone that ended up costing us dearly. Romo brings the Cowboys something they have needed for years: he is willing to take a few chances here and there and has the talent to pull it off most of the time. Yes, it is going to bite you in the butt from time to time but would you rather have many good plays CREATED with the occasional negative play thrown in or would you rather have someone back there just to hand the ball off and make the safe three yard throw on third and 7? This also affects the way other teams have to prepare for Dallas. Do you think ANYONE would prepare the same way if Bledsoe or Testaverde was quarterbacking Dallas still? LOL NO!
Anyway, you bring up good questions and we will see how the season plays out. Let's watch as Dallas improves throughout the season and breezes through the playoffs to bring home Lombardi trophy #6!!
By the way: the second time Dallas beat Buffalo in the Super Bowl, the Bills had beat Dallas in the regular season. I am not afraid of a rematch with the Patriots! I truly think Dallas would win this time.

It's actually very simple. They're not cohesive enough to be a Super Bowl team. Yes, all the tools are there, the running game shows promise, Romo shows alot of poise and the recieving core can be deadly and on the other side, the defense needs an over haul. But, give them time (not this season) and they will really start to mesh. Once they become consistent, I think that's when we should be seeing them as Super Bowl contenders. After the the season is over and Wade and his coaching staff review what needs to be fixed, then, hopefully, with experience under their belt, we can start looking at them possibly making an appearance in a Super Bowl. All too often fans become belivers way too soon and reality is thrown out the door. Yes they look great and that record is what it is, but to think they'll make it all the way to the Super Bowl is absurd. The Pats made their statement in the past game and Dallas didn't hold up against them. Had the Cowboys beat the Pats, then I would be singing a different tune. By the way I am a fan of Dallas, and I don't want to hear that "how can you be a true fan if you don't believe in them?" garbage. I am a fan, only I'm based in reality. Don't worry, if Jerry Jones doesn't meddle in Wades business, I expect to see this team in the Super Bowl in the next few years. 'Nuf said.
I'm in agreement with you on the Cowboys/Pats game. The Bills game was a trap game on MNF and turn around with a short week and play a vetern team. Moreover, we need to be palying at full speed with all of our weapons healthy (i.e., Ellis, Newman, Henry, Davis and Glenn). That is a lot of talent on D, especially, that can make a difference in big games. I like this young teams' heart and grit...its carried them to a 6-1 record. The next four games will really tell us if we have a really good team or great one.
I don't think the NFC is the weaker sibling to the AFC....Steelers lose to Broncos. As of now, it looks like a four team contest between both conferences...Colts/Pats & Cowboys/Giants with a lot of football to go.
So, as I see it. The Cowboys season is totally in the hands of TO. If he gets the ball enough to serve his huge ego, then he will keep his mouth shut and just play ball. Don't give him the ball, he will do to the Cowboys the same thing he did to the Eagles and 49'ers. Just look at the Bengals to see what happens when one player gets the idea he is bigger than the team.
Dallas has a great offense and average defense. Dallas goes as Romo does. If he's having a bad game, Dallas is in trouble. They have a suspect defense, especially against the pass. I think Tank Johnson will contribute a lot more than people think, especially against the run. Look at Chicago this year. They can't stop the run but did when they had Tank. The secondary will be better once Henry gets back in healthy. Unfortunately, Roy Williams is such a liability it might not matter. Dallas RIGHT NOW is the best team in the NFC. Everybody keeps talking about how the Giants are looking strong. They do, but look at who've they played the past 5 weeks. I'm not sold on their defense just like Dallas'. Their game in New York in my mind will show who the best team in the NFC really is. Remember, not much has changed personnel wise b/n both teams since week 1. The Giants still have a weak secondary as do the Cowboys, but this time Newman will be covering Plax, not Crappy Reeves. It should be a very interesting game.
You want to pick out the weak spots on the boys team. Hell you can do that with every team in the league. If your gonna talk about the most complete team in the league it would have to be the Pats. If you watched the game between them you should have seen that the boys so far are the only team to give the pats trouble. The score dosen't actually tell how close the game really was. Since big Bill is a jeti master and grinch of the league with no feelings he decides its necessary to score with 30 secs lefted in the game. All you cowboy haters just wait till big tank comes back, Ellis is getting better every week and Henry will help out with the secondary. Then you will see the real cowboys D and we all know the offense is there.
Well as a vivid Cowboys fan I also have an opinion!! If you guys want to talk about the pats game last week. I think the boys did a great job! Now if you guys look it was not the pats beating us it was us beating ourselves with those stupid penalties! If you go back and take away those penalties that took away big plays and the catch by T.O that was not called a catch when he was pushed out of bounds! Those were crucial penalties and calls! I think the pats offense is great but I don't think the Defense is as great as they say it is!! I think if they do meet in the Super Bowl that it will be a very very different game than the one last week!! Like KingKid said we will wait to see the next 4 weeks how we do!!
P.S. We still need to get back Henry, Tank, & Glenn which will boost our defense & our Offense!!
Thanks Ever67. Spoken true. If you are a true Cowboy fan, thick and thin, true blue, these questions should never come up. A true fan will never and I mean NEVER, speak like that about the Patriots?? Goodness gracious dam!! Are you kidding? The Pats are in the weakest Div in the league. Dallas ultimately will have the true test after our bye week against our div. A much better Giants team, the Skins are not slacking the Eagles might and I mean might be an easy win. The Pats? Miami? Ahahahahaha. Ok. We really gotta stop comparing Romo to these seasoned QB's. It makes no sense. People, this is his first full season. Got Dammit, give him his props!! He is good for basically a rookie. The frickin guy put up hella numbers. Yet everyone and I mean even so called "Dallas" fans is waiting for him to fail...Fugg!! 6-1? Yes got dammit that is good!! WTF?? If Miami, St. Louis, Oakland, or PITTSBURGH was 6-1 oh my god!! They would be super bowl bound according to everyone. So get the fugg off my boys back and if you are a frickin fan, revel in our victories and shut the fugg up!! Dammit!!
The Boys are certainly one of the NFL's better NFC teams, but they are at least two birds down to the likes of the Pats and the Colts. But they don't lack confidence.
Romo reminds me o####uy who's on his 'once in a lifetime' magical run. Makes you wonder when it's all going to end. To be sure, T.O. aint gonna be complacent much longer if Moss gets too much separation in the wide recever ranks. Nonetheless, winning usually cures most ills in sports so as long as Big D is winning, talk of a visit to the Super Bowl as the NFC rep is warranted.
Very good facts pointed out here with regards to the Cowboys "D". Their front 7 is very good but the secondary is very suspect at times. I've been saying all along R. Williams needs to just put on 25/30 lbs of solid muscle and make his #### a linebacker where he'd be more comfortable with hitting ppl. He can't cover his own mother with a blanket, but he'll sure as hell lay the lumber to someone if they don't run by him that is. Romo does has a "Gunslinger" mentality which will get him in trouble sometimes, and usually right when the Cowboys DON't need it most. TO is happy as long as he's getting the ball and the team is winning. I was waiting for the usual excuses after last weeks lost but was surprised when he said the team lost and not anyone 1 player caused the loss, maybe he's finally maturing or is it just a matter of time until he starts to bash Romo like he did to Garcia and McNabb? Time will tell with him. The Cowboys have a tough 4 game run after the bye week and could determine the division with the way the Giants are coming on and Wash playing decent. Although Phila is 2-4, playing at Phila even if they were 0-10 is not as easy with the way Philly fans are and that hostile environment. It will make for a huge Sunday night/NBC game back after the bye. I believe Dallas can win the NFC East and make it past the 1st round in the playoffs but not sure how far they can go after that. They have a young team and need time to gel into a cohesive unit. I agree they are a year away from the upper tier like the Pats and Colts are now, but have no doubts they can
the Cowboys are a good team. but superbowl? i dont think so. only time will tell. but i dont think Romo is good enough to continue his success. he doesnt look like an NFL caliber QB to me. i say Cowboys win the East, make it past round one then lose.
Good POST - I agree - this is a very talented team that has just not learned to play together as a cohevise unit - new coach - new systems, etc.
If the Cowboys want to become a great team they must stop the dumb penalties (10 in the 4th Qtr against NE was a real buz-kill) Stop giving up cheap TD's (this year they have given up a TD on a punt return, kickoff return, interception and fumble recovery) and convert opportunities - on defense they must stop the big pass play
Romo almost broke Troy Aikman's Franchise record for pass completions in a game ( he was about six short)
I guess that is luck too? even though aikman said during the game most of his records will probably be gone by the time Romo is finished with his Career?
Roy Williams is a big play safety. Sometimes he gets burned but other times he gets a great hit or forced fumble or interception.... That being said he is always in the mix of things almost every play. All over the field... You want that strong safety to be able to tackle to prevent a running back or wide receiver to go all the way...
Greg Ellis played a good game. How many rushing yards did the vikings get? Adrian who? he was shut down in the 2nd half?
Oh yeah cowboys have this guy called barber.. It took the entire vikings defense to tackle this guy???
haha if the cowboys lose they are the worst team ever.. If they don't win by 40 points they got lucky... They killed the vikings going up and down the field ( 2 turnovers is what hurt the score) , oh yeah they did this thing called running the football to control the play-clock...
It is simply why the Boys are not contenders this year.....The Coach!!! Wade's idea of stopping the Patriots was to stop the RUN first....Hey Wade WAKE UP!!! The Patriots run game is a short passing game and you make the comment to make Tom Brady beat you through the air what Planet are you living on....Team is to undisciplined and Romo is to careless with the football a young Brett Farve...If Parcells stayed they would have a chance with him gone their done...They finish the season 9-7....
As a life long Cowboys fan I will say I am not certain about this team yet myself. However, I will bet the ranch that they do better than 9-7 as dalbos22 states. I wished I knew you and could take that bet. As far as Wade Phillips goes - I am happy he is here. The Tuna is great but I think at his age he lacks enough energy to motivate the way he has done in the past.
As far as the Super Bowl goes there are two teams in the NFC right now that might be able to stop them. (Packers and Giants) The season is still a long ways from being over and alot can change. When we play the Giants in a few weeks alot will be answered. I will say this - this beats the past 8-10 years of watching the Cowboys lose.

heart and athletics goes hand and hand no matter what the level is, but just as important is leadership and this young team needs a strong leader to channel the heart and talent to a championship. It is theirs to win and lose!
I believe the Viking game sent a message. A team withour a passing game will lose to the Cowboys. Fortunately, the Viking don't have a passing game so you can play eight in the box.
The Cowboys better tighten up that pass coverage. Basically they need some better safeties. And it starts with Roy Williams. He can not cover. He either needs too be a linebacker or the Cowboy's need too trade him.
Cute article...but you miss on several points. Roy Williams is not an average safety. During each game he lays some serious hits on running backs and receivers that change the tone of the game. (In the same vein of Ronnie Lott and Darren Woodson) Owens is by far the most talented receiver in football. It goes like this Owens...then the length of a football field...then the second best receiver. Like it or not...its a fact! The only liability I see is the that the offense staggers sometimes under an inconsistant Romo. When Romo become more consistant, the Cowboys will emerge as the class of the NFC and maybe the NFL overall.
There is a clear lack of coverage in the secondary, but I only base this against the Pats. Yes they got burned opening night against the Giants, but I haven't seen anyone bottle up Plexico yet in other Giants games. Anthony Henry would help, but all the weapons the Pats do have, it's going to take a hell o####ame to stop that offence. If JJ, who historically thinks like Steinbrenner, is going to buy someone, he needs to buy someone of the semblance of Dion Sanders. If they can add one more shut down corner out there, Roy may stop worrying about run support and just play a little deeper.
Offensively, they have played some good defences and put points up. I think Romo does throw some balls he shouldn't but he's taking chances to make big plays. You've got to temper the risk/reward set up. If you are going to cheer when he gets a big play, don't boo him for taking the risk. They have the ability to be balanced on the offence, but the Pats certainly aren't trying to achieve that balance, so if it's working, why adjust it? Dallas should have the inside track for the NFC. I'm not saying look ahead, but historically, the NFC east is brutal. The Giants, Eagles and skins all could be having horrible years, but they all play each other tough no matter what, it's just the nature of the beast. Dallas is still the team to beat in the East, and I feel confident that will happen. If Wade can keep them just focused, one game at a time, they will have home field. The rest should be discussed when it's a little closer to the second season, the playoffs.
They are who we thought they were. A team with a potentially explosive offense. Minus Julius Jones they have a lot of weapons to stop. Julius Jones stops himself. The defense is suspect just like last year. However, they are getting the job done for now. If you want to crown them then go ahead and crown them. It's still early, though. They have a few glaring problems that can be fixed. The players are a little too cocky to admit that and the coaching staff is too relaxed to give the players discipline. They have the raw talent to make the Superbowl with a few lucky breaks along the way but need discipline to be a perrenial contender.
My view as a Boys fan is that they need a more dangerous running attack, as well as one that is consistant on short yardage situations. The passing game dominates in yardage and contrary to what others believe, IMO BALANCE wins championships. Balance between O and D, the D able to stop either the run or the pass, and an offense that is a theat either running or passing. I think to most teams the running game is a seconday thought to stopping the pass, knowing that the boys avg. almost twice the passing yards as they do rushing. I'm not saying that their run game is bad, but that it's not enough to put fear in the opponent.
Roy William is a run stopper and always has been. The only way he is effective against the pass is if he plays center field or has help. If he plays CF that negates his run support and if he has help that leaves someone else undercovered. At this point he is a liability.
Duski, i agree with all of your points, particularly the ones you made about Roy Williams. For all of his glory, the only thing he has done well in the league is deliver big hits. His pass coverage is brutal and he seems to get lost when hes not stuffing the box. His recent play reminds me of another mediocre at best saftey playing for the Bears, Adam Archuletta. Both have been rumored to be big hitters and sure tacklers, but so far neither has filled their roles.
Anyhow, i think the answer to who are is Cowboys can be answered with another question. Who is Tony Romo? Aside from Witten i havent seen any of their skill players getting enough seperation on their own. Watching the Cowboys recievrs, it looks like the only time they are getting open, aside from on quick hitting pass plays, is when Romo is buying extra time for them. They dont run their routes all that well and rely on their quarterback for time more than any other recieving core in the league. My point is, that in games where the the oppsing defense will be able to generate a steady pass rush AND somehow stop Romo from scrambling and creating open passing lanes, their offense will really struggle, and when their offens efalters, their defense is not nearly strong enough to win games for them.
Dudski you wrote the same article last week, doubting weather Dallas is a good team or not. I told you they would be 6-1(to bad Ricko)and that the next 3 games would let you know who they were. Should Dallas prevail the next 3 games I hope that will remove any doubt.
I like to visit the ranch at scouts.com and there're many posters like yourself. No matter what Dallas does it still won't be enough to convince them, because they're looking for perfection and they won't find it. With that being said I look forward to the 2nd half of the season and hopefully mnay questions will be answered.
As Chitown stated, at some point the protection will breakdown to the point that even Romo's scrambling won't help.
Again tho, IMO, the answer is a more balanced attack. when the running game becomes more of a threat, then other team won't be able to bring the heat as much, can't drop LB's into coverage as quickly, and play action will be much more effective. But then I am old school and I still believe in running to set up the pass. They have 239 passing attempts to 191 rush attempts, 7 of those are Romo's. For a team that often has the lead the ratio should be in the other direction if anything (chew up the clock). They need to establish more of a running presence to take the heat off the passing game.
Having said that tho, they are a good team that is capable of going to the Super Bowl. Winning it is another question altogether with NE and the Colts playing as well as they are.

I think you watch to must NFC East football and are not paying any attention to the rest of the NFC. All you talk about for competition is the NY Giants and Redskins and miles ahead of the rest of the NFC???
Green Bay is 5-1. They beat both the NY Giants and Redskins. Detroit is 4-2. Good home team that can't win on the road. While the NFC East is the premier division in the NFC this year, to act like those 3 teams are all miles ahead of the rest of the conference is a bit much.
I SEE EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT THE BOYS NOT BEING A GOOD TEAM!! WELL AS I SEE U GUYS TALKING THAT THE COWBOYS R STILL NOT IN THE SAME PAGE AS THE PATS/COLTS! WELL IF I DO BELIEVE DIDNT'T THE COWBOYS BEAT ON THE COLTS LAST YEAR WITH ALL IT'S WEAPONS? SO 2 SAY THAT THERE NOT ON THE PATS/COLTS LIST I THINK WE R ONLY A FEW PENALTIES AWAY... I THINK WITH HENRY BACK WE WILL SEE ROY WILLIAMS DO WHAT HE HAS 2 DO AND THAT IS STOP THE RUN AND MAKE BIG HITS... ABOUT ROY WILLIAMS YES HE DOES GET BURN ALOT BUT MEMBER I DIDN'T SEE ANYONE COMPLAIN BACK WHEN HE WAS IN HIS ROOKIE OR SECOND YEAR WHEN HE WAS COVERING AND DOING GREAT! WE ALL GO THROUGH SOME TOUGHT TIMES. BUT I BET THAT WHEN WE GET HENRY BACK WE R GOING 2 SEE A DIFFERENT ROY WILLIAMS THEN U GUYS WONT B TALKING #### ABOUT HIM!! AS FAR AS BIGDROCKRULZ IS CONCERN I DONT THINK HE IS A TRUE COWBOYS FAN! I DON'T THINK THE COWBOYS R OVERATED OR ROMO IS OVERATED! IF IT WASN'T FOR ROMO I DON'T THINK WE WILL B 6-1.. MEMBER HE IS LIKE A ROOKIE HE STILL GOT'S MORE YRS 2 COME... SO WE WILL JUST WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS AFTER OUR 3 DIVISION GAMES... THEN WE CAN ALL SAY IF THEY R OR IF THERE NOT A GREAT TEAM!!
There is no great team in the NFC. Sorry, ever67, but its true. the Cowboys, with or without Mr. Henry, do not have enough on defense. By the way, Henry wont make much of a differece when it comes to Williams's deficiencies. He is living purely off of reputation. If you wann see a real safety play, watch Sean Taylor. That guy is a real, all around safety.
StreetCred: GreenBay is 5-1 and did win against the Skins, but they did nothing to win that game. It was handed to them by Santana Moss. Brett Favre has started to fall apart. His last few games have been mistake laden and if he doesnt revert back into the game-control guy he was early on, the Pack may not even get the division.
Dallas has been the best team thus far, but in a game where Romo doesnt have things go his way, the Cowboys could easily lose to many of their NFC foes.
Looking at the way Dallas played agst the vikes at home i don't see super bowl. If the vikes had any offense at all they would have been right in it or won it. They might be the best the NFC has to offer but the G-men are playing much better and i am looking forward to see how they play agst them. Dallas still seems to be fine tuning not quite hitting on all cylinders. Time will tell
Ok, I'm going to go back and read the comments of the rest of you clowns, which will be quite good.
Let's be realistic! The Pats and Colts are the best in the NFL. Da Boys MAY be the best of the NFC. It'll take a lightning strike and a stun gun for the Cowboys to win the SuperBowl in 2008.
Sorry, KMart shoppers, I'be never been a homer and am a realist. I've passed on my team in favor of the line many times.
Did someone here actually compare Roy Williams to Ronnie Lott? Thats the funniest thing I've heard. Game changing hits....pfffft. Please dont ever make this stupid comparison again. Steve Atwater who is miles from ever being compared to Ronnie Lott might be a better comparison for Roy except for the fact that Atwater was an excellent open field tackler where Roy whiffs on a lot of tackles. There are a lot of safeties that nobody even knows that can hit hard. So why is Roy so special. He's not he's average just like the article says.

Great analysis. I don't think Roy Williams' deficiencies will ever really attract as much attention as they should - he supplies the Sportscenter guys with their highlight-reel hits (as well as non-highlight-reel whiffs), so why should they endanger their gravy train? But he spends so much time looking at receivers' backsides, I almost expect him to try and buy them a drink and dinner.
Romo, as little as I thought so during his terrible second half of last year, is probably the real deal. I don't know if a year and a half of seasoning is enough to prevent him from making the dumb play that gets you beat, but maybe. I'd put him, and the Cowboys, about even with the Packers and probably the Bucs as the best of the NFC right now - each has a decent defense, a quarterback who can either carry his team or occasionally sink it, and some major other flaws. I doubt any of them will separate from the pack much, so it will be a roll of the dice as far as who gets through the playoffs. What won't be a roll of the dice is the inevitability of any of the three (or others) getting butchered by the AFC in the Super Bowl.
