Butt Slapping In The Macho Sport Of American Football - What Gives?
Nov 12, 2007 | 11:29AM | report this

For as long as I, The American Football Psycho can remember
dudes have been slapping each other on the buns after a good football play or for inspriation.

Inspriation?       What Gives?

When did this most strangest of activity begin in the macho sport of American Football?

Think about it. Do you really need a instant replay?

One dude putting his hand on another dudes behind over and over again.

Even if it was for only a split second it was a split second too long.

I don't know about you but from where I come from, one dude putting his hands on another dude's fanny - under most all other circumstances is not seen to be cool.

Why?  In The Most Macho Of Sports?

It happens often enough in this most macho of societies and in argurly
it's most macho of games, to warrant attention.

And...

To the guy who started this... you've got a lot of explaining to do.

But we've got to look at the context of the action?  Right??

Does anyone know how & when it started?  Who was he??  Where did he originated from?

Does he have any decendents or family members in country?

Please, slapping a player on the behind in encouragement or congratulations has been in many sports for quite some time. It starts at the earliest age when parents give their young kids a pat/push of encouragement to get them into the action with a little confidence. Coaches at all levels of baseball, softball, basketball and yes even (gasp) football have been known to do it to fire someone up.

The physicality of the slap gets the player's adrenaline up, gets the blood pumping a little faster, without the person delivering the slap risking injury (although apparently one might risk injury if giving the OP a pat). You certainly wouldn't want players and coaches walking around punching each other in the face/helmet or shoulderpads. Can you just see your $5 MIL a year receiver punching the quarterback in the arm for luck, hitting the shoulderpad instead, and breaking his hand? Or maybe he just gives the QB a nice deep bruise that throws him off his game for a few weeks.

Next time you feel threatened when a football player pats another on the ####, just go outside naked in the snow and grunt a few times while ####ing yourself in the head with a thick piece of wood.
